Investing in Infrastructure London and its surrounds are entering an exciting new chapter of growth. Investment in infrastructure is an essential part of this chapter and is crucial to supporting a growing population and an expanding economy. London is currently the most influential city in the world but we need investment to continue to have the competitive edge, enable growth and future proof our city. In my view, building the London of tomorrow will come from recognising the potential of green infrastructure and connectivity to accelerate projects and increase the resilience and value of our investments. This will allow the economy to thrive, individuals to prosper and London to maintain its status as one of the best cities in the world. Royal HaskoningDHV understands the importance of taking the initiative and working with partners to create both the vision and the solution. The London Infrastructure Plan 2050 sets out the Mayor of London s vision for London and its needs over the next few years. This plan will require significant investment to transport networks, new development and infrastructure upgrades. The creative development of the Thames corridor also forms a vital part of this vision ensuring London s connectivity is sustained. Looking out from our offices in Abbey Gardens, Westminster this is an exciting time and as a member of London First, we are very much looking forward to shaping the future of our city. Steven Trewhella Director, Royal HaskoningDHV 3

Project Services Royal HaskoningDHV delivers sustainable infrastructure by listening to our clients and partners, and then working with decision makers and the public to identify competing demands and opportunities, and transforming these into aligned achievable goals and investment outcomes. We do this by embedding our professionals with clients and partners, focusing on the investment and time, and using our expertise to create connectivity and future proof solutions. Our existing culture of integration is ideally suited to ensuring a coordinated masterplan is developed for London and will add significant value in the delivery of London s growing infrastructure requirements. 7 Transport Transport is vital to London s economy. Improvements must be made to serve a growing population and make London more liveable. London has ambitious plans to stay connected and Royal HaskoningDHV is well placed to help it achieve these long term aims. Airports Many major UK airports are now operating above optimal capacity, and congestion both in airports and in the airspace at peak times is common. The picture is no different in London Heathrow can no longer meet the needs of a city that has global reach. The Mayor of London is looking to open a new world-class four-runway hub airport by 2029, making London the best connected city in the world. Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in many major airport projects both in the UK and across the globe. We have been working at both Gatwick and Heathrow for over 20 years and we have played a lead management role on Terminal 5 which has become a process benchmark for the efficient delivery of large infrastructure projects both in the UK and overseas. We have vast experience of complex aviation project management involving multiple stakeholders, public interface, strict security controls and the integration of airport, road, rail and bus services. Royal HaskoningDHV is currently working on the expansion of London City Airport. Our expertise ranges from transport planning, to air quality surveys, environmental impact assessments, to bridges and buildings, engineering and due diligence. 7
Our work on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was integral to the success of the consenting and Public Inquiry process for London Gateway 8
Waterways The Thames is the UK s busiest inland waterway. Each year the Port of London handles over 40 million tonnes of cargo be it fuel, food, cars or containers at more than 70 dedicated, specialised terminal and wharf operations all along the River Thames. The port contributes a staggering 3.7 billion to the economy every year.* Royal HaskoningDHV is internationally renowned for the planning, design and operation of ports and maritime installations. Our experience in this area enables us to provide solutions which meet London s specific requirements. We have a long and established relationship with London Gateway, a major new deep-water container port on the Thames Estuary developed by DP World. We have carried out work on the EIA for the Port & Logistics Park on behalf of P&O and we will be supervising the construction and administering the construction contract, for the creation of compensatory mudflat habitat, on behalf of London Gateway. We can support projects at all stages, from initial feasibility studies, planning approvals and environmental assessments through finance, design and implementation to the provision of maintenance and operational installations. Transport for London contracted us to carry out a structural and a mechanical survey of the pedestrian walkways linking to the Woolwich Ferry. We have been offering them expert advice since * Research from SQW Consulting 9

Rail In the last year an average of 3.5 million* people commuted into or across London by rail every day. The London Infrastructure Plan commits to the provision of a 70 per cent increase in rail and tube capacity serving the city s economic heart. It will also be a priority to improve connectivity and integration with existing airports, including Stansted. Not only will such an increase dramatically improve the productivity of those travelling to and working in London, but it will also improve the connectivity of the capital to the rest of the country. Royal HaskoningDHV works to ensure that rail projects integrate well with surroundings. Our multidisciplinary approach factors in the environment, legislation, safety and profitability. We were appointed as the structural and civil engineering designer of Canary Wharf underground station, one of the largest and most complex structures on London s 2.75 billion Jubilee Line extension project. The protection of the early-19th century dock walls and the stability of the nearby tower blocks were vital considerations for both design and construction; in this respect extensive investigations were carried out to examine the effects of ground movements caused by construction of the stations, with particular reference to the effects of groundwater lowering. * TfL data, 12 months from Jan 14-Jan 15 11

Roads Robust, sustainable and well-designed transport networks are vital to a strong global economy in the 21st century. London s road network caters for 80 per cent of people s journeys and 90 per cent of freight journeys.* To ensure the capital is fit for the future the London Infrastructure Plan 2050 has identified a need to invest in world leading traffic management, a series of new river crossings in East London, an enhanced bus network and a new inner orbital tolled road tunnel. Royal HaskoningDHV has an international reputation for planning, designing and implementing transport systems and associated infrastructure. We are proud to have been appointed as the leading transport consultant for the Aluna project in Greenwich and have been working on the transport network in the East of London since phase one of Canary Wharf. * Information from London Infrastructure

Cycle Routes London has huge ambitions to become a more liveable city. One of the most recent and pronounced trends has been the growth in cycling. According to Transport for London, cycle use grew by 10 per cent last year and is forecast to grow by 12 per cent over the next financial year. To capitalise on this London is proposing to create 200 km of Dutch style cycle highways with at least five new pedestrian, cycle or green bridges and intercity cycle corridors linking London to surrounding towns. Using Dutch techniques and experience Royal HaskoningDHV is a specialist in urban and bicycle infrastructure design. With our Dutch heritage and UK design experience, Royal HaskoningDHV is well placed to shape city s bicycle infrastructure. The Mayor of London s aim is that cycling will become an integral part of the transport network and a normal part of everyday life. As part of the London Mayor s Vision for Cycling, Transport for London (TfL) is delivering Quietways, which will give cyclists a direct, pleasant, back-street alternative to busy main roads. UK charity Sustrans is TfL s Delivery Agent for the Quietways programme, supported by the specialists in bicycle infrastructure design Royal HaskoningDHV, Phil Jones Associates, Wheels for Wellbeing and Local Transport Projects. We are also undertaking a feasibility study for the Department for Transport (DfT) into potential demand for cycling in communities along a route that broadly follows the HS2 corridor. The primary objective being to identify a whole series of practicable and desirable local routes which will make a real improvement for cyclists and pedestrians. 15
Royal HaskoningDHV was commissioned by the Environment Agency to carry out improvements to the security compound for the Thames Barrier, Woolwich. 16
Water The recent floods in London and across the country demonstrate the devastating impact floodwater can have on people s lives and livelihoods. In some areas of London, the level of flood risk is preventing homes from being built. Climate change impacts along with a lack of sustainable drainage and ageing flood defences mean that the flood risk in London is set to increase. The Thames Estuary 2100 Plan sets out the strategic direction for managing flood risk in the Thames estuary to the end of the century and beyond, including how to protect 1.25 million people and 200 billion worth of property from tidal flood risk. Royal HaskoningDHV has a long and recognised track record in the implementation of flood alleviation schemes and provides services that cover the whole flood risk management cycle, from concept to feasibility, impact assessments, design, tender process, site supervision and operation and maintenance. Highams Park Lake is located within Epping Forest and was classified as a high risk reservoir under the Reservoirs Act Its most recent safety inspection had identified that it could be at risk of failure in an extreme flood event, potentially putting lives downstream at risk. Royal HaskoningDHV was commissioned to design a reservoir safety improvement scheme that would fit within the particular setting of Epping Forest. After engaging with the local community and seeking the relevant consents and approvals from regulators, Royal HaskoningDHV has completed the design of a scheme that preserves and enhances the landscape and environment. The scheme has since been recently completed with notable success and strong support from the local community. 17

Green Infrastructure Royal HaskoningDHV is firmly committed to enhancing society by supporting the vision of an integrated green infrastructure. The social, environmental and economic benefit of protecting London s open green spaces is well documented but there is now a greater emphasis on reducing costs for local authorities by planning and designing these spaces to mitigate flooding, improve air quality, cool the urban environment and enhance ecological resilience. Our drainage engineers are experts in SuDS design and we re proud to have projects cited by CIRIA as examples of UK best practice. In partnership with The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea we developed the country s very first online tool to increase the implementation of SuDS in small developments. The tool assists developers by helping them to calculate the impact of new developments and extensions on the surface water runoff and to develop appropriate SuDS solutions specifically for them. 19
