The projects will be organised in 5 themes Operational themes Many of the projects have similarities in terms of e.g. method, technology and stakeholders, including private partners and knowledge institutions By gathering the projects in 5 themes it will be easier to share knowledge and coordinate between projects, particularly for those that are alike The themes are a tool for CSL to organise and build resources on specific competencies within the team 1 People and Flows Knowledge of how citizens move about in the city, focusing on movement patterns and citizen needs 2 Digital Services The availability of the city services through digital solutions for citizens and tourists 3 Data-driven operations Digital tools and new data collection to support working procedures throughout the city 4 Climate Monitoring Detailed knowledge about the environment and climate to plan and prioritise work/projects 5 Light and Urban Life Utilising outdoor lighting for safety and urban experience 17
All Projects Belong To A Theme Theme Chart Projects ID Project People and Flows Digital Services Standard role for CSL 1 Data of tourists use of the city 2 Data of bike traffic flow in real-time 3 Data of citizens use of the city 4 Flexible use of cultural and leisure activities 4 Data-driven Operations 5 Wi-Fi to citizens and tourists 6 Information displays in urban spaces 7 Information about free parking spots Starting point - today H H H Climate Monitoring H Light and Urban Life 8 Innovative use of advertising and bus stop ads 9 Waste management in the city 10 Optimisation of bike parking 11 Smarter city handling/supervision 12 Day-to-day operations and monitoring of green areas 13 Household waste management 14 MONICA - Reduce noise levels in the city 15 Air quality monitoring 16 Noise level monitoring 17 Traffic safety through lighting 18 Urban Light Festival 19 Wayfinding through light 18
THEME - People and Flows This theme is characterised by a need to gather better knowledge about the movement patterns of citizens and tourists and their use of urban space. This will provide a better picture of the use of the city and stand as a better foundation for the various city operations and further development in the city. There is a need for knowledge that can be used for the following: Operational contexts, e.g. to plan and prioritise traffic in favour for vulnerable road users Planning of physical initiatives in urban spaces and the availability of cultural offers A bedrock for evidence-based citizen involvement/participation Project Objective Project owner Start Time Data about tourists use of the city Mapping movement patterns of tourists, focused on optimising the location for coming offers/services Data about bike traffic flow in real-time Evidence and basis for decision to prioritise traffic flow Data about the citizens use of the city Data and basis for decision to make physical changes in the urban space and fact-based user involvement Flexible use of cultural and leisure activities 19 Mapping of users needs to prioritise desirable culture and leisure activities 2018 H1 Stor CSL rolle Standard CSL rolle
THEME - Digital Services This theme is characterised by a complementary focus on the basic physical/digital infrastructure and the solutions and services it will provide for both the citizens and tourists. The focus will be on the following: Communication infrastructure, including Wi-Fi and information screens in urban spaces that will deliver services to the citizens in those situations where they need it most. Digital services that will help guide citizens and tourists as well as deliver basic functions and information about, for example, passability. Project Objective Project owner Start Time Wi-Fi for citizens and tourists Offer Wi-Fi for tourists in Copenhagen to make it an interesting destination and at the same time collect data (statistics) about visitors Information screens in the urban space Information about free parking spots More accessible citizen service trough screen-based services to citizens and visitors in the urban space, e.g. Information for tourists and passport information Offer drivers a better opportunity to find a free parking spot and thus reduce searching traffic Innovative usage of advertising and bus stop ads 20 Utilise capacity in advertising signs and bus stop ads for innovative solutions for citizens, visitors and the city departments Standard role for CSL
THEME - Data-driven Operations This theme is characterised by a data-driven approach to those working procedures that involve day-to-day operations in the city. A better basis for decision will be used for the following: Optimising current work procedures by prioritising relevant resources Better and more targeted services for the citizens through improving knowledge about citizen needs and behaviours Project Objective Project owner Start Time Waste management in the city Set up a solution for demand-controlled waste collection, resulting in a better route plan that corresponds to real needs Optimisation of bike parking Make the gathering of abandoned bikes more efficient, to make better use of the capacity of bike parking areas Smarter city handling/supervision Automating the registration of street maintenance, duties for municipality staff as well as the follow-up on permissions etc. Day-to-day operations and monitoring of green areas Household waste management Increase the day-to-day operations and monitoring of green areas, e.g. through more efficient gardening, irrigation and nursing Set up a solution for demand-controlled waste collection, resulting in optimised contracts and a better quality of service for citizens 2018 H H1 21 Standard role for CSL
PROJECTS*IN*2017*&*2018* THEME - Climate Monitoring This theme is characterised by an improved knowledge of the environmental effects of traffic, nightlife, events etc., as well as the climate challenges related to larger incidents, such as cloudbursts. There is a need for improved knowledge about actual conditions in real-time, as well as solutions that can be used for the following: Prioritising traffic Rainwater management Targeted data support, e.g. towards nightlife disturbances and initiatives described in the Climate Plan Managerial information, including impact and evidence-based (empirical) data collection Project Objective Project Manager Start Time MONICA - Reduce noise levels in the city To lower noise levels in the city by transmitting certain frequencies Air quality monitoring Basis for decision re. strategic planning of traffic, as well as providing evidence of completed initiatives Noise level monitoring Basis for decision re. strategic planning of traffic together with overcoming nightlife disturbances 2018 H1 22 Standard role for CSL
THEME - Light and Urban Life This theme is characterised by lighting as a tool to increase safety, experience and usage of the urban space. Focus will be on the qualitative human aspects, including the kind of social behaviour that light can support. The use of lighting in urban space builds upon the current work involved in changing streetlights in Copenhagen, and the knowledge that are gained in an array of other pilot projects. Lighting will be used for the following: Increased safety, also in traffic Enhance local experience and easier accessibility to what the city offers, including culture and leisure activities Facilitate dialogue with citizens on how to create a vivid, engaging and responsible city Project Objective Project owner Start Time Traffic safety through lighting To increase traffic safety for vulnerable road users at crossroads by using intelligent lighting Urban Light Festival To gather an array of pilot projects under one festival to show the potentials of light in an urban setting plus facilitate dialogue with citizens Wayfinding through lighting To use outdoor lighting to strengthen the user experience and help people better find cultural activities 23 Standard role for CSL
