Build compact, complete communities with a vibrant mix of housing, jobs and amenities accessible by walking, cycling and transit. Reduce traffic gridlock and promote inter-modal goods movement to support economic prosperity. Curb urban sprawl and protect farmlands and natural areas. MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE 5
6 Walkable, Bikeable, Transit Supportive Land Use Minimum 40% residential intensification target. Intensification strategies that identify areas for focused growth. Planning and design standards that support transit. Street configurations and urban form that supports transit, walking, and cycling. MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE 6
7 Densities to Support Active Modes existing and emerging downtowns as urban growth centres with three density targets Designated greenfield areas density target of 50 residents and jobs per hectare MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE 7
8 Infrastructure - Moving People in the GGH Transit is the first priority for moving people. Criteria links transit planning and land use planning. Municipalities will develop and implement transportation demand management policies. Municipalities will ensure that pedestrian and bicycle networks are integrated into transportation planning. 9 Key Implementation Measures Municipal Conformity Providing technical analysis to support implementation of the Growth Plan 110 municipalities bringing Official Plans into conformity with the Growth Plan Most upper- and single-tier municipalities have met June 2009 conformity deadline One-year extensions (June 2010) granted to most lower-tier municipalities Aligning infrastructure funding Leveraging real estate portfolio MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE 9

13 Selection Criteria and Format Nine projects selected out of over 50 projects. Projects meet criteria on supporting walking and transit, being mixed use, and having high quality urban design.
