2 Thoughout the ages... History From its beginnings in 1858, Avenue George V has evolved into a major thoroughfare at the heart of the most prime district in Paris. From 1987 to 2007, the 39 George V building was the headquarters of the French Red Cross, which was founded in 1964 as the first international humanitarian network by Henry Dunant. Bleecker then acquired the building, with the intent to not only convert it into its headquarters but also to create a vibrant and central expression of Parisian lifestyle. The vision was based on openness to the outside world and future thinking. This transaction enabled Bleecker to acquire and freely transform this asset into a trophy showcase for its expertise in property redevelopment. Since the beginning of the transaction, the idea of creating a unique reference in the Paris market was paramount. Throughout the redevelopment process, Bleecker strived to think outside of the urban redevelopment box, while maintaining the property in harmony with its surroundings. During construction, scaffolding was wrapped with a custom-made image of distorted facades as seen through prism inspired by Dali s melting clocks and the work of Catalan artist Gaudi. Located on the 7th floor (PH floor) and accessible via its private elevator, the circular dining room features exceptional panoramic views. Marcelo Joulia, who founded Narco Architectures, designed the space with a unique style, which includes contrasting materials, contemporary colors and Knoll-designed furniture. The elegant interior design is the perfect extension of the kitchen. Chef Frederic Vardon explains that the values of sharing and generosity were the basis for the restaurant concept : I imagined a dining room as it may exist in a home, with everything going on around it. It is a place for all kinds of cuisine : one dish is made with love and wholesome foods, another dish would the fruit of exchange and sharing. Focusing on seasonal products, he strives to offer a contemporary version of traditional cuisine, to which he brings a neo-classical touch and a little joie-de-vivre. 11 A challenge to time... Design At 39 George V, lighting designer Sophie Bruere created a first ever design based on Geoluminescence. Passers-by can withness light shows on the façade. From the courtyard or the restaurant terrace, one can discover an observatory, where light variations are projected onto a circular screen. These variations are based on sky color and light produced across the global by human activity at night. The observatory is visible from the ground and interior corridors. A second light fixture located on the roof allows the building to be spotted from the Champs-Elysees Avenue. 21
