1 COCO PEAT & COIR APPLICATIONS FROM NATURAL WORLD, ALLEPPEY, INDIA Erosion Control Products Charankattu Coir Mfg. Co. (P) Ltd. was established in 1925 in Shertallay, Kerala - the traditional home of Indian Coir. Charankattu has today emerged as one fo the largest manufacturer exporters of coir products from India. Charankattu with its well equipped factory, manufactures and exports a large variety of coir products such as Coir Geotextiles, Coir log, Coirbed & Floor coverings. Charankattu Coir, Corporate Member of International Erosion Control Association and they have been the winner of the largest Coir Geotextiles exporters award of Govt. of India for the last 12 consecutive years. CCM COIR GEOTEXTILES A gift to nature Soil Erosion Control in gentle co-operation with nature Coir - the golden coconut fibre - is a 100% organic fibre. Coir is a strong cellulose fibre wit high lignin content. It is naturally resistant to rot, mounds and moisture. No chemical treatment is required and there is no synthetic substance tobe added during slope applications. Coir fibre ishard and strong, with good properties for being spun and woven into matting. CCM-Coir Geotextiles (CCM-CGT) has unique properties and just right strength and lifetime to protect slopes against erosion and help the natural vegetation to take root. Controlling soil erosion and conditioning the soil CCM - Coir Geotextiles has the mechanical strength necessary to hold soil in place and prevent erosion. The netting breaks up run-off heavy rains and dissipates the
2 energy of flowing water. Coir also promote the growth of new vegetation by absorbing water and preventing the top soil from drying out. CCM - Coir Geotextiles resembles natural soil in its capacity to absorb solar radiation. This means that there is no risk of excessive heating - some times a problem with synthetic geotextiles. CCM - COIR GEOTEXTILES IS BIODEGRADABLE H2M6 (CCM-400) H2M5 (CCM-700) H2M9 (CCM-900A) Coir is an abundant and renewable resources The coir fibre is obtained from coconut husks. The coconut palm grow plentifully in southern india, where there is a long tradition of preparing the coir fibre. CCM - Coir Geotextiles are well suited to the world demand for an environment friendly product. CCM - Coir Geotextiles - a comprehensive range of products. CCM-COIR GEOTEXTILES IN DENSITIES FROM 400 TO 1,400 g/sq.m. A range of different mesh mattings are available, meeting varying requirements: Matting density to meet soil pressure. Open surface percentage, allowing for a new growth of vegetation. Capacity to control surface water. Requirements on microclimate. Requirements on landscape design.... and costs. A higher density means a tighter mesh and less open area in the netting. Product No. Warp ends per dm. Weft picks per dm. Density. Kg/Sq.m Delivery specifications

H2M H2M H2M H2M H2M H2M H2M Customer requirements Sacks and TUBULAR NETTING are available in dimension and any grade, for use e.g. root sacks for plants and shrubs. COST - EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS WITH MANY APPLICATIONS The heavier grades can be used on embankments and slopes where there is no or little vegetation. Other advantageous applications are on ski slopes, and as a bottom reinforcing materials in watercourses. Coir has good properties for use under water. There the natural degradation is considerably slower, since micro organisms are generally less active. The lighter grades of CCM Geotextiles are suitable for prompt erosion control of all kinds of green areas. The netting can also be used over garbage dumps and mining areas, where and changes shape frequently. Example of application Water beds Road & Rail embarkments River embarkments Landscaped areas Mining fields and waste dumps areas Dam Airfields Golf courses Ski slopes and Ski lift tracks Erodable sea shores Noise control banks Defence installations Cutting and hillside slopes TEST REPORT OF CCM GEOTEXTILES AS PER ASTM STANDARDS. Due to its 3 dimensional nature CCM Coir Loop - 1 to CCM Coir Loop - 9 will hold more hydroseeded material and it will not easily wash off, even after heavy rain immediately after hydroseeding. CCM 3 Dimensional Coir Geotextiles can be used were vegetation is considered to be a long - term answer to teh slop protection and erosion control. It can even withstand, rain, wind, human and animal movements without deterioration for longer period.

7 SLOPE APPLICATION Step 1. Preparation of site The required site to be prepared by removing unwaned materials like rocks, debris etc., which will affect the quality of bonding to soil. Step 2. Apply seed & fertilizer Spread seeds and other required particles deep. Fill in the slots with soil and tamp as specified for project before the it flush with the soil surfcae. installation of CCM Coir Geotextiles. Step 3. Spreading of CCM Coir Geotextiles Start CCM Coir Geotextiles from one foot (30cm.) above from the top of slope, fix the top of each CCM Coir Geotextiles one staple per linear foot (30 cm.). Secure top end of CCM Coir Geotextiles into a slot of above 1 feet (30cm.). Step 4. Install the CCM Coir Geotextiles Spread the CCM Coir Geotextiles down the slope as shown in the diagram. Apply staples in every two to five feet (60 to 150 cm.) depending on wind. Do not allow to free - fall the CCM Coir Geotextiles. Step 5. Starting a new roll
8 While joining a new roll at the time of start, overlap the end with previous one by 12" (30cm.). This will protect against failure of seam while excessive water flow. Step 6. Bottom Stapling Bottom of each CCM Coir Geotextiles should be protected with one staple per linear foot (30cm.). Step 7. Re positioning of CCM Coir Geotextiles If you need to repositioning the CCM Coir Geotextiles, we recommended to re-roll and re apply. Avoid dragging of CCM Coir Geotextiles.. COIR BED CCM Coirbeds are made out of 100% natural coirfibre and CCM Coir Geotextiles. Coir fibre is sandwiched between two CCM Coir Geotextiles. Coir fibre is sandwiched between two CCM Coir Geotextiles to form a bed. CCM Coirbeds can be produced in different thickness, width and length according to customer requirements. Relatively steep stream banks can be covered with pre-planted CCM Coirbeds. Sediments will be collected and held in CCM Coir beds, which will help plant growth and purify water to a certain extent. 12" (30cm.) diameter CCM Coirlogs installed on a tranquil lagoon. In the foreground are CCM vegetated Coirbeds in stalled behind the Coirlogs, beginning the process of vegetation and reclamation.

COIRLOG BIO - ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS FOR STREAM AND LAKE SHORE PROTECTION AND SLOPE STABILIZATION CCM Coirlogs with coir net or poly net. CCM Coirlogs installed along vulnerable streams, rivers or other lake banks to protect against scour. "CCM Coirlog" consists of a coir fibre core with durable coir net or with poly net for additional strength. Normally CCM Coirlogs are produced with a diameter of 30 cm, 40cm and 50 cm (12", 16" and 20"), with a length of 3 meter or 6 meter (10 feet or 20 feet). However to get additional planting space CCM Coirlogs can also be produced in the rectangular shape in size 20cm x 30cm x 6mtr. length. The roll is secured by appropriate specified stake and with 15cm to 20cm showing above the water level. For high emabrkments areas with a variable water level, several CCM Coirlog can be applied as a stack. This natural system will protect the bank until trees and other plant roots binding take over the protection. Advantages The natural product combination will support the development of plants in distrubed wet land areas. By the eco-friendly application of natural materials, we are able to restore nature which has been violated by other forces. Applications. CCM Coirlogs are attached at the edge of the bank and secured by wooden pegs. Pegs may be used on alternate on the outer edge to firmly secure the log to the bank. We also manufacture Coirlog 7 which is bound by CCM Tests done by CBI showed that the 12" (30cm.) diameter CCM Coirlog is intended to be placed on banks where the water velocity cannot exceed 145cm/sec with waves no higher than 50cm.
12 The gradient of the slope should not exceed 1:3:5. The use of the larger CCM coirlogs depends on the recomendations of the Project Engineer or the Conservation Official. The Coirlog 7 may also provide additional structural strength.
