BOX OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER (910) FAX (910) TDD (910) /20/2010 City Council City Hall Wilmington, North Carolina Dear Mayor and Councilmembers: The North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to widen Kerr Avenue to a 4-lane divided facility from Randall Parkway to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway (U-3338B) and construct an interchange at the intersection of Kerr Avenue and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway (U-3338C). NCDOT has completed the engineering designs and is currently preparing an Addendum to the Categorical Exclusion which is expected to be complete by January The construction of the widening project (U-3338B) is funded by NCDOT; however, the construction of the interchange (U-3338C) is currently unfunded. North Carolina General Statute allows cities to prepare and file Transportation Corridor Official Maps. On January 19, 2010 the Wilmington City Council supported the preservation of the right-of-way for the proposed interchange on the northwest quadrant of the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway and North Kerr Avenue and directed staff to prepare a Transportation Corridor Official Map for adoption by the City of Wilmington. The map has been prepared and advertised in accordance with NCGS Letters have been mailed to the property owners whose property is impacted by the proposed corridor, the NCDOT Secretary of Transportation, and to the Chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners advising them that a public hearing on the Map is to be held at the April 20, 2010 City Council meeting. The attached Resolution authorizes adoption of the Transportation Corridor Official Map for the proposed interchange on the northwest quadrant of the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway and North Kerr Avenue and direct that the map be filed with the New Hanover County Register of Deeds and at other locations as required by North Carolina General Statute The adoption of the Resolution is subject to Council's receipt of comments and consideration thereof at the public hearing.
