Be sure to demonstrate how the modules can include infrastructure and 3 Competition
4 fixtures to provide for equal access for various levels of ability and mobility (see Universal Design). Be as creative as you can and design for the great diversity of people that make-up our communities. These can be demonstrated in the design and also in a written dot-point summary. Designs of new homes or documentation of dwellings already built will be accepted. Must fit within the Site Plan attached. Sustainable Design Principles Sustainable home design creates healthy, active, inclusive and vibrant communities. Consider the three areas of Sustainable Design in your modular home design: 1. Ecological Sustainability Passive solar design to include the following: Solar orientation (optimise summer shade/winter sun access). Energy efficiency (optimise insulation, thermal mass, natural lighting and natural ventilation as well as all technology, e.g. whitegoods, other electrical goods). Renewable energy systems (solar technology). On-site water harvesting and management. Sustainable sourcing of materials (local, natural, embodied energy and life cycle rating). Ecosystem services on site (including both native planting and edible food). 2. Social Sustainability Net positive socio-cultural benefits to home environment and surrounding community, Universal Design (equal access). This can include building design and fixtures. For more info: Flexible and modular (lifecycle and intergenerational adaptability of design). For more info: 3. Economic Sustainability Cost-effective and affordable to a wide cross section of society (e.g. first homeowner families and low-income pensioners). Efficient, innovative and effective materials and building systems and technology. Efficient and minimal building envelope scale (not a McMansion). 4 Competition
5 Professional and community categories Can be CAD or hand drawn. Must be at 1:100 scale. And include: Floor plan Must be A3 size and at a minimum show: North arrow. Identify the dimensions of internal rooms, any decks, ramps and overall footprint. Nominate the use of each room and any planned adaptions. Identify the location and width of doors and windows. Include a dot point explanation of why and how the building design addresses the Sustainable Design Principles as well as the life-course you have nominated. Elevations Must be A3 size and at a minimum show: Building height. Ceiling height(s). Identify the width and height of each door and window. Detail the materials and colours used for the walls, floor and roof. Identify the location of the hot water system as well as any water tanks, solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and other services. Include a dot point explanation of why and how the building design addresses the Sustainable Design Principles as well as the life-course you have nominated. Cross Sections Must be A3 size and at a minimum show: The materials and colours used for the wall, floor and roof, including the thickness and any explanatory notes. The type of insulation used throughout the building. Wall height(s). Roof pitch. Include a dot point explanation of why and how the building design addresses the Sustainable Design Principles as well as the life-course you have nominated. 5 Competition
6 Optional extras You may include a mini-model and/or photos of the dwelling if it has already been built. Young person category (18 and under) Entries in this category can be more creatively presented. You can use A3 drawings, paintings or Google SketchUp as well as handmade minimodels, diorama etc. Follow the Entry Specifications and Sustainable Design Principles but don t let our suggestions limit your creativity! Site Plan Entrants should include the site plan as an A3 template at 1:200 scale (see following page) to show position of dwelling within envelope. Suggested landscaping to consider in design. You are welcome to alter the landscaping as you wish.
