1 Welcome A NEW ALDI FOOD STORE FOR KINGS NORTON to our exhibition Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is bringing forward plans to redevelop land off Redditch Road in. We are proposing a food store in a convenient and accessible location, bringing high-quality produce at discounted prices to the whole community. The proposal would introduce a brand-new store to this part of, only a walk away for many local residents. Our proposal for Redditch Road offers: A vibrant, modern Redevelopment of a vacant brownfield site Delivering the regeneration of the Three Estates area Parking spaces for 122 cars, including six disabled and six parent-and-child spaces Free customer parking for up to 90 minutes An opportunity for linked trips between the proposed food store and other nearby businesses and independent retailers, helping to retain spending in the local area A store located close to local transport links, including bus stops on Redditch Road (A441) Approximately 40 full and part-time permanent local jobs Additional employment opportunities during the construction period and via the supply chain Attractive landscaping throughout the site to enhance its appearance A high-quality design which offers a contemporary shopping experience CGI of the proposed store IMPROVED CHOICE FOR KINGS NORTON As customers continue to look for better value brands to help make their money go further, it is important that residents have access to a wide range of shopping facilities. The introduction of a new Aldi food store on Redditch Road would improve the immediate local retail offering, creating more competition and improving shopping choice for the local community. Aldi is well known for selling a variety of high-quality products at discounted prices. On average, our customers save between 30% and 40% on their shopping without compromising on quality, with everyday items available at low prices. A store in this location would allow local residents to carry out their food shopping without the use of a car. Aldi s nearest store is located in Northfield, approximately 3 miles away. The introduction of a new store in this area would not only provide residents of with more convenient access to an Aldi store, but help residents save time and money by reducing travel times.

2 A new Aldi OUR PROPOSAL Aerial view A NEW ALDI FOOD STORE Regeneration of the site would deliver a new Aldi food store with a net sales area of 1,254m², alongside car and cycle parking. The proposed store would stock the same range of high-quality, awardwinning products found at other Aldi stores. The proposed floor space would mainly be for food goods, with a smaller range of non-food products, alongside servicing and staff areas. REGENERATING THE THREE ESTATES The site, located to the west of Ark Rose Primary Academy, has been intended for use as a retail space, alongside plans for housing and a shopping centre to regenerate the area. The wider masterplan received outline planning permission from Birmingham City Council in In addition to helping to deliver this masterplan, Aldi s proposal would create jobs for local residents. LOCAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES The proposal would create around 40 permanent full and part-time job opportunities, including managerial positions. We are proud that our store employees currently have the highest-paid jobs in the food retail industry and earn well above the Living Wage Foundation Standard. Employees will have access to proven opportunities for career progression, high levels of training, and are guaranteed a minimum of 20 to 25 hours work per week, depending on their role. 3 A new Aldi DESIGN AND LANDSCAPING DESIGN The aim of our proposal is to provide a high-quality and attractive. We have carefully designed our scheme to sit comfortably within the site, and consider the topography of the land. To achieve this, Aldi has designed a building which provides visual interest from each perspective, and contributes positively to the appearance of the surrounding area. The proposed store would be single-storey in the main with a net sales area of 1,254m 2. To ensure an excellent appearance over the long term, Aldi uses high-quality materials both inside and outside its buildings. LANDSCAPING We take great pride in the style and design of our stores, with landscaping playing a key role in creating an attractive and welcoming environment. As part of these proposals we have dedicated large sections around the edges of the site to be landscaped in order to enhance the plans, which will in turn complement the surrounding area. Our contractors visit developments on a regular basis to ensure the quality of the landscaping and planting around the sites is maintained. ENERGY EFFICIENCY Aldi is already meeting high standards of energy efficiency, and is committed to responsible energy usage. Aldi only uses environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient refrigeration and lighting. A heat recovery system from the refrigeration condensers provides almost all heating for the store, re-using otherwise wasted machinery heat. In addition to recycling the heat from machinery, solar panels would be installed on the roof, providing the store with a further proportion of its electricity needs. 4 A new Aldi HIGHWAYS AND CAR PARKING Proposed site plan ACCESS Access to the store for cars and bicycles will be off a new access road into the wider development. Pedestrian access would be provided from an entrance off Redditch Road, and two walkways off the new access roads. The site has excellent public transport links, with bus stops on Redditch Road (A441) providing services locally to the proposed store, linking it to the wider area. PARKING The store would have 122 car parking spaces, including six dedicated disabled badge spaces, and six parent-andchild spaces. Appropriate cycle parking would also be provided, as part of our commitment to promoting sustainable modes of transport wherever possible. TRAFFIC Aldi is undertaking a Transport Assessment as part of the planning application to ensure the proposed food store does not have a significant adverse impact on the local road network. This assessment will look at the operation of local roads both with and without the proposed development in place. The scope of this assessment has been agreed with the Council s Highways Officer. DELIVERIES Aldi stocks a carefully-selected range of approximately 1,500 lines, compared with supermarkets such as Asda or Sainsbury s that stock over 20,000 lines. As a result, an Aldi food store will require only three to four deliveries per day. We operate store deliveries outside peak transport hours. All manoeuvring takes place within the site, and a unique delivery ramp arrangement removes the need for external activity. This process is not only efficient, but also reduces any potential noise disturbance to neighbouring properties.

5 A new Aldi PART OF YOUR COMMUNITY BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOUR We are proud to be at the heart of local communities across the country. To continue our community-led culture, we have set out a number of neighbour-friendly practices: We aim for our store managers to be familiar with the local area, allowing them to react quickly and sympathetically to local issues when they arise We use a unique delivery system, enabling products to be transferred directly from the vehicle straight into the store, without the need for external movement of goods.
