3 About the Conference Background Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent with a population of about 4.3 billion people in Hosting about 60% of the world population, and coupled with a high growth rate, it is imperative that Asia establishes an international research organisation which specifically focus on the wellbeing of the Asian communities, living in both the Asian and non-asian countries. Hence, the establishment of ABRA (Association of Behavioural Researchers on Asians), officially formalised on 20th October 2014, with its headquarters in Shah Alam, Malaysia. AMER (ABRAmalaysia) shall be the permanent secretariat for ABRAworldwide, currently represented by Egypt, Iran, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Turkey. To mark the establishment of ABRAworldwide, the maiden international conference AQoL2014 (ABRA International Conference on Quality of Life - was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from December The 1st ABRAworldwide Board Meeting was also held in conjunction with the conference. To enhance the QoL conferences further, the AQoL shall be the sister conference with the more established annual AicQoL. Both back-to-back QoL conferences shall form the ASEAN-Turkey ASLI (Annual Serial Landmark International) Conferences on QoL. The first part of the ASEAN-Turkey ASLI Conferences on QoL the AicQoL2015 was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from April The second part, the AQoL2015Izmir, Turkey from December 2015.ASLI QoL conference themes addressed Quality of Life issues, which particularly affects the Asia/Pacific region. iii AQoL2015Izmir Quality of Life 2 Quality of life (QoL) is defined as the general well-being of individuals and societies and its related to variety of contexts, including the fields of health, preventive medicine, psychology, sociology, architecture, city planning and urban design. QoL has been (and will be) assessed in relation to various domains, including identity, belonging, creativity, wellbeing, belied and ideas, ecology, culture and physical environment. Research have been focused on identifying the indicators of QoL and defined indicators related to employment, cultural and recreational activities, social necessities, education, technological improvements, health and physical environment. Such indicators involve both subjective and objective measures. Although voluminous studies have been held, no clear findings have been revealed (as expected in relation to its interdisciplinary and wide content). Given that more work are on call to understand the concept of QoL. The AQoL2015Izmir, contributed to the debate and solutions on the QoL by exploring QoL issues for the whole world population in general, and Asian populations in particular. AQoL2015Izmir aimed to encourage collaborative interdisciplinary work by experts from various disciplines including health, psychology, architecture, urban design, city planning and environmental psychology, etc.

9 Foreword The ASEAN-Turkey ASLI QoL2015: 2 nd AQoL2015Izmir, Turkey, with the "Quality of Life 2" as the main theme managed to attract an overall total of 43 numbers of approved abstracts. Those finally transformed into 30 approved full papers. Two of the papers declined at the last minute. Majority of the papers (64%) were contributed by Malaysia. This was followed by Turkey (17%), Iran (13%) and 3% each from Indonesia and Nigeria. The full papers approved were simply grouped generally under 12 sub-categories, although quite a number could have been easily placed under more than one category. The top four categories in order of popularity involved the following environments:- Urban Environment (27%), Community Environment (13%), and 10% each for both Health / Healing Environment, and Residential Environment. The Association of Malaysian Environment-Behaviour Researchers (AMER), the main organizer, together with the Co-Chair and Co-Host, the Department of City & Regional Planning, Faculty of Architecture, Dokuz Eylul Universitesi, Izmir, Turkey congratulate all contributors in making the conference a tremendous success! Hopefully this conference will inspire and encourage more researchers to participate in our forthcoming serial conferences to be held annually.
