Killeshandra, Ballyconnell and Bawnboy. The trail follows the steps of the famous St Mogue in early Christian Cavan. The trial will encompass a driving tour within the area which focuses on a number of site including Holy Wells, Kilnavart Standing Stone and the famous Clough Oughter Castle. 8,850 The establishment of a historic Graveyards network for Historic Graveyards in Council ownership. 6,750 24,600 C06386 Bird Usage Survey data for the Shannon- Fergus Estuary A bird usage survey of the River Shannon and Fergus Estuaries SPA is required to identify sensitive areas and is a key focus on the SIFP. An objective of the SIFP is to establish an evidence-based approach to identifying areas for future development to ensure that proposals will work in harmony with the designated Natura 2000 sites. The Plan identifies Strategic Development Locations for marine-related industry and Areas of Opportunity for aquaculture and renewable energy generation. 12,000 C06387 C06427 Cork City Council C06391 C06393 C06396 Preparation for an Ennis Town Public Realm Plan (PRP) 'Stories from the Landscape' Phase 1 Heritage Open Day and Heritage Week Traditional stone mason skills workshop Study on the economic value of Cork Heritage Open Day event to Cork City 1) To hold a PRP workshop to identify issues, concerns and aspirations to inform the brief for the PRP 2) To develop a detailed brief for a PRP(strategy and implementation)to guide public and private investment to maximise and enhance the town's existing cultural assets and economic, environment, tourism and social development. 3) Gather background data, information, reports. 4) To undertake detailed analysis and consider audits and survey work to inform PRP 5) Undertake Movement Frameworks. 18,000 'Stories from the Landscape' Phase 1 comprises of 9 short films which will deal with a variety of heritage stories that seeks to provide an insight, knowledge and understanding of various facets of our heritage. The films will seek to show the richness and diversity of our heritage; the heritage that is being discovered and uncovered, issues relating to heritage and how they are or can be addressed; also looking at the great opportunities that heritage can provide. 3,000 33,000 This project has two parts a) Heritage Week - publicity of local events and production of a local brochure and b) Cork Heritage Open Day a Heritage week event which allows public access free of charge to over 40 buildings of heritage interest in Cork City. It also includes nearly 50 events including tours, talks, films and children s competitions and two major festivals namely The Coal Quay Festival and the Medieval Day 10,000 This project aims to raise awareness of the rich heritage of stone mason skills in Cork City by running a two day workshop The event will include expert guest speakers, practical demonstrations and walking tour of examples of stone work in the city. The workshop will also include information on dos and donts on repairs, lime mortar, and commemorative stone work. 3,750 This study will examine the value of the Cork Heritage Open Day event to Cork citys economy and tourism product. It is known that every year between 15,000 and 20,000 people participate in the event. Although there is feedback on the event itself, with information on age profiles and satisfaction ratings there is no hard evidence on what the economic benefit this event has on the city and the addition if any to the tourism product 2,500 Page 1

2 C06400 C06404 Cork County Council C06422 C06423 Alien Invasive Species Training and Education Heritage Officers Programme Project Heritage Castles of County Cork - publication Heritage Content Development for Cork County Council's Website This project is to provide training and education tools such as information booklets on alien invasive species in Cork city. This follows on from recommendations from a study on alien invasive species in Cork City in ,000 A heritage officers programme project. It was discussed at recent Heritage Officers meetings that a joint project on an agreed topic be carried out. The details of this project have not been finalised but funding will be required to carry out this project 1,250 24,500 This project will provide a Heritage Guide to the Castles of County Cork. This will be an illustrated publication highlighting the many important castles located within Cork ranging from the earliest Norman Castles right up to the fortified houses of the 17th century. The book will be the fifth installment of the Heritage of County Cork publication series, which received a citation of excellence at the 2015 Excellence in Local Government Awards. 14,000 Cork County Council's Website is being redeveloped in. To add value to this process and to ensure the best possible information for its heritage users, the Heritage Unit of Cork County Council is keen to develop top of the range content for the heritage section of the site and in the process furthermore produce an extensive heritage FAQ. 7,000 C06429 Heritage Development and Management Plan for Lonehort Battery, Bere Island Donegal County Council Bere Island is steeped in heritage. One such aspect is its military history, with one of the best known sites being Lonehort Battery. This site has significant potential and Cork County Council, with the support of the Heritage Council, and working with the Bere Island Projects Group, would like to see full plans put in place for the site's management and development, which among many goals, will include a project to highlight the county's and indeed the site's connection with WWI. 6,000 27,000 C06403 C06413 C06432 C06454 Traditional Shopfronts Seminar (Action 2.4) & Oral History Workshop (Action 4.9) Study of Lime Kilns in County Donegal (Action 5.5) '1930s Schools' Folklore Collection in County Donegal' Booklet (Actions 4.1 & 3.7) Cross-Border Built Heritage Summer School (Actions 4.5 & 2.1) The proposed Traditional Shopfronts & Vernacular Signage seminar will raise awareness, increase appreciation, promote best practice and encourage the conservation of traditional shopfronts and vernacular signage in our towns and villages. The Oral History Training Workshop will raise awareness of our rich oral tradition and provide initial training for community groups interested in recording local oral history on aspects of our society, material heritage and cultural landscape. 7,095 There are circa 5,000 lime kilns known to have existed in the nineteenth-century rural landscape of County Donegal. Despite their abundance, surprisingly little is known about their distribution, form, and use, and the products they produced. The proposed study will investigate their distribution; identify their forms, components and construction; develop a typology; document specific case studies; suggest possible conservation measures and produce the text and illustrations for a booklet. 8,775 The publication of a booklet provisionally entitled '1930s Schools' Folklore Collection in County Donegal' as part of the 'Donegal Heritage Series' published by the County Donegal Heritage Office, Donegal County Council. In , the Irish Folklore Commission, in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Irish National Teachers' Organisation, initiated a revolutionary scheme in which schoolchildren were encouraged to collect and document folklore, heritage and local history. 5,418 A three-day, cross-border Built Heritage Summer School to be held in counties Donegal, Derry & Tyrone in June in partnership with the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society, the Irish Georgian Society and the Derry City & Strabane District Council. The event will bring together over 120 students, enthusiasts and practitioners to explore, discuss and debate issues related to a shared architectural and cultural heritage. 6,000 27,288 Page 2

The purpose of the review was to HERITAGE RECORD- identify the steps necessary to prepare this dataset for publication on the Heritage IMPLEMENTATION OF Map Viewer, and to assess the database against other industrial heritage surveys. Field names and related heritage, such as fieldgates, limekilns and local stories, are rapidly disappearing as the county undergoes urbanisation and change. The project will begin the process of documenting, mapping and disseminating this rich heritage and implements Actions 12 and 30 of the Fingal Heritage Plan ,150 C06412 River Liffey Heritage Project - Phase 2 It is proposed to develop a programme of initiatives to further engage local people and the wider public with the natural and cultural heritage of the River Liffey. As a follow up the date gathering phase in 2016, Phase 2 will focus on outreach activities to raise awareness and to promote a wider understanding of the river from source to sea by encouraging visitors to explore the full geographical area and character of the river along its course from Wicklow to Dublin City. 7,500 C06418 Galway City Council Swords Castle: Digging History - Year 3 Swords Castle: Digging History community archaeology project has been developed as a unique way of engaging the public, locals and visitors alike, with Swords Castle. The aims of the project are 1) to address the archaeological knowledge gaps identified in the Swords Castle Conservation Plan and inform ongoing conservation works, 2) to strengthen visitor engagement with the Castle and 3) to engender a sense of local ownership and pride of place in Swords and Fingal. 8,000 27,650 C06431 C06469 Galway Butterfly Project and Poster Second Annual Galway City Heritage Field School and Newsletter The aim of the Butterfly Project is to disseminate knowledge about the butterflies which occur in Galway and to produce a poster and also to run a course of talks on butterflies and their habitats in six Galway schools and three Galway libraries. The poster will be launched during Heritage Week by the Mayor in the Local Authority. 2,060 The field school will this year concentrate on archaeological survey wood craft, species identification and dry stone wall building. Survey will also be put on Historic Graves website and Galway City Council's website. 11,000 C th Annual Heritage Conference Galway County Council People and Nature Galway County Biodiversity Project C06383 Title of conference - "Treasured Ireland Recent Discoveries in the Islands; Archaeology, Architectural and Art History". The conference will bring together Ireland's foremost archaeologist, architectural historians and art-historians to discuss recent research and discoveries in those fields. The conference will take place over 2 days and will include tours of Galway and fieldtrips. 8,000 23,460 People and Nature - The Galway County Biodiversity Project is a joint initiative between Galway County Council and the Applied Ecology Unit, NUI Galway to develop and implement the Galway CountyBiodiversity Action Plan 35,000 C06394 Audit of County Geological Sites in County Galway - Phase 1 There are currently around 135 County Geological Sites (CGS) in County Galway that have been provisionally listed by the Geological Survey of Ireland. Co Galway will be audited in a phased approach, the priority for would be to cover around 40 CGS sites in the north-western part of County Galway, including the 25 sites within the Joyce Country Aspiring Geopark area. 11,000 C06405 C06411 Community Archaeologist Project Ecclesiastical Heritage Audit - Oranmore/Athenry Municipal Area The Community Archaeologist will liaise with monument owners and occupiers, the local authority and community groups on the condition of monuments, advising them on appropriate management measures, including general advice and assisting in the preparation of management plans. He will also provide general advice and guidance in relation to archaeological heritage matters and will seek to increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of archaeology in the county. 15,000 It is proposed to undertake an Ecclesiastical Audit of the Churches of the Athenry/Oranmore Municipal Area in as an Action of the Galway County Heritage Plan , with the objective of auditing, recording and documenting all of the high quality artwork and stain glass in the churches in the Athenry/Oranmore Municipal Area as well as the artists who produced them. 11,250 C06421 Stories from the Landscape - Phase 1 'Stories from the Landscape' Phase 1 comprises of 9 short films which will deal with a variety of heritage stories that seeks to provide an insight, knowledge and understanding of various facets of our heritage. Go Wild Summer Camps will connect children with their local environment through revealing the wonders of wildlife outside their window. The camps (4 x 1 day) will be hosted by wildlife experts with extensive experience of environmental education and knowledge of the local environment. Children will learn about nature through direct experience, through practical sessions, field trips, games and activities designed to explore important environmental topics in a fun and informative way. 4,000 79,250 Page 4

5 Kerry County Council C06462 Tralee Town Centre Public Realm Plan Kildare County Council Kerry County Council in partnership with the Heritage Council, RGDATA, Tralee Chamber Alliance, the Institute of Technology Tralee and local interest groups are currently in the final stages of completing a Town Centre Health Check for Tralee as part of the Heritage Councils Nation TCHC Pilot. These partners have determined the need for a consultancy assignment to develop and deliver a plan for the most effective presentation, management and development of the Towns Public Realm. 25,000 25,000 C06408 River Liffey Heritage Project Phase 2 It is proposed to develop s programme of initiatives to further engage local people and the wider public with the natural and cultural heritage of the River Liffey. As a follow up to the data gathering phase in 2016, Phase 2 will focus on outreach activities to raise awareness and to promote a wider understanding of the river from source to sea2 by encouraging visitors to explore the full geographical area and character of the river along its coursed from Wicklow to Dublin City. 7,500 C06435 C06415 Local Biodiversity Action Plans Laois County Council Laois Heritage Awareness It is proposed to facilitate the development of Local Biodiversity Action Plans for 8 towns/villages in Kildare to promote an awareness of biodiversity across the whole community and to develop targeted actions to promotion biodiversity enhancement and protection in the towns/villages. 11,250 18,750 A series of heritage awareness-raising events will be held in Laois in, the main focus being on 3 key periods: The Old Fort Festival in Portlaoise (June), Heritage Week (Aug), & Science Week (Nov). Other events will be supported as the opportunity arises through the year, with the aim of ensuring that a consistent message about the importance & relevance of heritage to all our lives is delivered throughout the year. In line with the Heritage Week theme, there will be a focus on nature. 7,000 C06417 C06419 Laois Conservation Project Connecting Communities - Engaging with Heritage (Phase III) This project involves recruitment of a project officer with specialist knowledge of conservation to advise on conservation of architecture in County Laois. It will involve reviewing and updating the Council s database of Protected Structures, using data from planning and enforcement files, grant records and the original NIAH survey of Laois (subject to approval) and other sources, as well as site visits. The Project will also contribute to the review of ACAs in Laois. 9,000 This is Phase III of a 5-year project to develop deep connections between local communities and their heritage throughout Laois. The project will use varying methods to reach children and adults on the broad theme of "Engaging with your local Heritage". 6 Limerick City and County Council C06378 Bird Usage survey data for the Shannon Fergus Estuary A bird usage survey of the River Shannon and Fergus Estuaries SPA is required to identify sensitive areas. The Plan identifies Strategic Development Locations for marine-related industry and Areas of Opportunity for aquaculture. 15,000 C06443 Limerick Digital Atlas continuation Longford County Council The purpose of the Digital Atlas project is to catalogue, map and geo-reference archival data from the online archive of the Limerick Museum and other sources, to create a publicly accessible historic database for use by historians, educationalists, tourists and genealogists. It is a continuation of the 2016 Heritage Council funded project. It will concentrate on the medieval core of the city. 15,000 30,000 C06425 C06453 Longford & the Great War Exhibition & Schools Education Project Longford Natural Heritage Awareness Programme Longford & the Great War Exhibition & Schools Education Project is part of a broader project to commemorate WW1 and the impact it had on Longford s history and society. Approx. 400 Longford men & women died during WW1, up to 26 of whom in two of the major battles of 1917: Messines, 3rd Battle of Ypres. This project seeks to raise awareness of the Longford men in these battles, and will include a schools education pack developed with local educators and historians. 8,000 This is a multi-facted awareness initiative focusing on County Longford's natural heritage and biodiversity. The first element is the publication of the County Longford Geological Audit, carried out with the Geological Survey of Ireland. The 2nd and 3rd elements are public awareness and education about pollinators and invasive species, continuing the work carried out in 2016, through workshops and the Invasives Ireland app. This will target community groups and selected schools. 6,315 C06467 Joint Wetlands Audit - Longford & Roscommon Louth County Council The River Shannon and its lakes and tributaries forms the natural, historical and cultural backbone of the centre of Ireland. This project proposes an audit of over 238 potential wetlands of Counties Longford and 642 in Roscommon, (Wetland Surveys Ireland) with targeted field surveys of key wetlands sites near the River Shannon and Lough Ree. This will build on and expand existing projects, such as the NPWS National Fen Survey, and help inform regional planning & environmental tourism projects. 7,875 22,190 C06395 C06398 Heroes of Louth, survey of memorials To survey (most of) the public (outdoors) memorials and plaques in county Louth, focussing primarily on those located in the towns. We can have 250 points surveyed and plaques in county for this money. We might include pumps, cobbled pavements etc if we can't find Louth 250 plaques and memorials. 8,000 Historic Landscape Characterisation of the Louth/Armagh border To provide us with a detailed and full understanding of the history of the Louth/Armagh border and the expression of that history in the landscape. 7 Mayo County Council C06426 Ballina Public Realm Plan It is proposed to prepare a Public Realm Plan (PRP) for Ballina. The objective of the Public Realm Plan is to develop and deliver the most effective presentation, management and development of Ballina s public realm, with particular reference to its history and heritage. 17,000 C06463 Mayo Heritage Awareness Programme Meath County Council Develop and deliver a programme of events to raise awareness of Mayo s natural, built and cultural heritage, including its value and economic benefit. The programme will include seminars, field outings and workshops. Since 2015 four major seminars have been held under the banner of Kells Local Heroes The Bigger Picture How Architecture and Design Can Transform a Town (May 2015), How Arts and Culture Can Transform a Town (Dec 2015), The Greening of Kells (May 2016) and Planning for the Future (Dec 2016). 19,425 29,550 Develop conservation plans in conjunction with the communities for three ecclesiastical archaeological sites and produce three archaeological reconstruction drawings. 10,763 Public awareness initiative to engage individuals and communities with our heritage, through events, and publications. 7,000 The Monaghan LECP identifies the design and implementation of a Heritage Town initiative in a town in the county. This project will enable the start of this process. Monaghan TCHC has mapped vacancy rates in the historic. This project will commission research to establish the characteristics needed to establish Monaghan a living town utilizing its historic buildings. 5,000 22,763 To upload collections in Offaly History Bury Quay archive to Atom catalogue new collections; to update the Malcomson Birr Castle catalogue, scan 17th material and host 4th Earl of Rosse images on Atom; to host the Dillon Coronor papers in OHS and Council archives; to catalogue the Laughton archive, to create entries for the Offaly History blog to raise awareness. 19,000 The focus is to maintain conserved churches, prepare tenders for works to additional churches and to install signage at appropriate sites. 8,500 27,500 Page 7

8 Roscommon County Council C06434 : Ballintober Graveyard and the Grave Memorials of Co. Roscommon Eight year s research shows that Ballintober Old Graveyard, not far from Ballintober Castle in west Co. Roscommon, is important to the parish, the county and the country and reflects the social and economic history of the parish through the wide variety of artwork of its memorials, mainly headstones. The book includes a comparative study of all the memorials of Co. Roscommon arising from a study of the almost 300 memorials in Ballintober graveyard. 13,425 C06440 C06459 : Rindoon Guidebook Sligo County Council Heritage Awareness Programme This project is to produce a guidebook and summary leaflet that is engaging and assessible to the public. These publications will explain the history, archaeology and significance of Rindoon desserted medieval walled town. This guidebook will include the excellent historic reconstruction drawings that were commissioned in ,590 19,015 A series of heritage events held throughout to raise awareness of Sligo's heritage. The programme will include the following: 1) Biodiversity Day (22 May), 2) Heritage Week (19-27 August) with a focus on people and nature, 3) and a Wild Sligo Events Programme (March - October), and all associated communications and marketing. 9,000 C06460 Field Monuments Advisor/Community Archaeology Project For the periods and , Sligo County Council with the support of The Heritage Council initiated and developed a very successful Field Monument Advisor programme in County Sligo. The new County Sligo Heritage Plan has identified a need to re-establish the FMA programme, but with a stronger emphasis on community archaeology, that will increase public participation and engagement. The project will closely align with existing initiatives in Fingal, Galway and the Burren. 15,000 C06466 C06468 Communities & Biodiversity Project Conservation of Easkey Abbey, Sligo - Phase I South Dublin County Council Sligo's biodiversity and landscapes play an important role in supporting economic growth, improving people's health and well-being, adapting to climate change and providing us with a strong sense of identity. Getting the most from nature and improving the health and resilience of natural assets are key aspects of the ecosystem approach. This approach is strengthened when communities are empowered to look after nature and landscapes and are involved in the decisions that affect them. 9,000 Easkey Abbey is a medieval church at the centre of an enclosed graveyard, within Easkey, Co. Sligo, along the Wild Atlantic Way. In 2015, Sligo County Council worked with the LEAP Project to undertake a survey of the church and graveyard. A conservation report followed in 2016 which highlighted the need for urgent conservation works. The project seeks to carry out Phase I conservation works in to the church in order retain public access and the significant heritage values of the site. 9,000 42,000 C06444 River Liffey Heritage Project - Phase 2 As a follow up to Phase 1 in 2016 (data gathering) t is proposed to engage an animator to work with stakeholders to develop an innovative programme of interactive events, particularly during Heritage Week, with a view to further engaging the wider public with the natural and cultural heritage of the River Liffey. 7,500 7,500 Page 8

9 Tipperary County Council C06382 C06414 C06441 River Suir Heritage Audit Raising Awareness Stories from the Landscape - Phase 1 Waterford City and County Council A Built and Natural Heritage Audit of the River Suir between Twofords bridge and Knocklofty bridge. This will baseline information on habitats and built heritage of the river. 18,000 Raising Awareness looks to collaborate again with Birdwatch Ireland to raise awareness birds and wildlife and swifts in particular. In line with our heritage plan actions we also want to provide training and raise awareness to groups operating within the county by providing two seminars on heritage related topics that will help them 5,550 Stories from the Landscape' Phase 1 comprises of 9 short films which will deal with a variety of heritage stories that seeks to provide an insight, knowledge and understanding of various facets of our heritage.
