1 SECTION LIGHTING FIXTURES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS: A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Special Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section DESCRIPTION: A. This section of the specifications is applicable to all lighting fixtures and fixture accessories. B. Fixtures shall be furnished with ballasts installed. Lamps shall be furnished separately, from the lamp manufacturer QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. CBM Label: Provide ballasts which comply with Certified Ballast Manufacturers Association standards and carry the CBM mark on the label. B. Acceptable Manufacturer s: 1. Lighting fixtures - see fixture schedule on drawings. 2. Ballasts - Magnetek-Universal or equivalent by Motorola or OSRAM Sylvania. 3. Lamps - General Electric, Phillips or OSRAM Sylvania. C. Submittals: Refer to Paragraph 3.05 and Section PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 LIGHTING FIXTURES: A. Provide lighting fixture assemblies complete with all hardware and accessories needed to install and connect, as indicated on the drawings and this section of the specifications. B. The Contractor shall select the voltage, frame type, ballast temperature rating and number of ballasts, based on the use shown, on an area-by-area basis. These modifiers are not included in catalog numbers. (i.e. A given fixture may be required for use on more than one voltage. Determine voltage by circuit to which fixture is connected.) C. Any fixtures that are defective or damaged shall be replaced with new. This includes, but is not limited to scratches, dents, inconsistent finishes, etc. The Architect s opinion shall be final in making the determination. D. Lampholders and sockets shall be compatible with lamp / ballast combinations used. LIGHTING FIXTURES SCCPSS BID #C16-33 (ESPLOST)
2 2.02 BALLASTS: A. General: 1. Provide the number of ballasts in each fixture to achieve the switching operations indicated. Ballasts shall serve only the lamps within the same fixture; master / slave wiring is not acceptable. This does not preclude the sharing of ballasts for fixtures installed in continuous rows. 2. Ballasts shall have a minimum starting temperature of 0º F and be rated for a maximum ambient temperature of 105º F. 3. Ballasts shall have a 5-year warranty and shall include replacement ballast assembly and reasonable replacement labor costs. 4. Ballasts shall be used only with lamps listed to produce published results FLUORESCENT BALLASTS: A. Ballasts for 4' Linear Fluorescent lamps: 1. Ballasts shall be Universal TRIAD Reduced Harmonic Electronic Series with the following features: a. Rapid start. b. Output frequency greater than 20,000 Hz. c. Parallel lamp operation. d. High power factor. e. Normal light output. f. Total harmonic distortion less than 20%. g. Serves one, two, three or four lamps. B. Ballasts for Compact Fluorescent Lamps: 1. Ballasts shall be Universal C and CT Electronic Series based on number and wattage of lamps, with the following features: a. Programmed start. b. Output frequency greater than 20,000 Hz. c. Programmed rapid start technology to yield maximum lamp life. d. Series lamp operation. e. High power factor. f. Normal light output. g. Total harmonic distortion shall be less than 10%. h. Serves one or two lamps EMERGENCY BALLASTS: A. Fluorescent fixtures shown to have integral backup power shall be provided with emergency type fluorescent battery packs conforming to the following: 1. Fixtures Using T8 Lamps: Provide ballast by Bodine or IOTA and install within ballast channel. Ballast shall operate two lamps at 1100 lumens. Ballasts shall have full 5-year LIGHTING FIXTURES SCCPSS BID #C16-33 (ESPLOST)
3 warranty. 2. Fixture Using Compact Fluorescent Lamps: Provide ballast by Bodine or IOTA and install on fixture frame. Ballast shall operate one lamp at 800 lumens. Ballasts shall have full 5-year warranty. B. Emergency ballasts shall be factory installed. C. Ballasts installed in fixtures located outdoors or unheated spaces shall be suitable for the ambient temperatures encountered LAMPS: A. Fluorescent Lamps: 1. Fluorescent lamps shall have a color temperature of 4100 K, unless noted otherwise, and a color-rendering index of at least Published lamp life shall not be less than 20,000 hours for linear lamps and 10,000 hours for compact type lamps. 3. Compact fluorescent lamps shall be of the type and pin configuration required by the specific fixture manufacturer. 4. Lamps shall be listed for use with the ballast provided. 5. All lamps shall originate from the same production run. 6. All lamps shall be manufactured in the United States. 7. Lamp characteristics shall be certified, in writing, by the manufacturer FRAMES AND HOUSINGS: A. Fixture catalog numbers indicate style of fixture required. Provide fixtures with proper frames for ceiling types indicated on the reflected ceiling plan. B. Fixtures installed in inaccessible ceilings shall be U.L. approved for through wiring and all components shall be accessible from below. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION: A. General: 1. Do not use permanent fixtures to provide temporary construction lighting. No fixture shall be installed until the interior of the building is enclosed, conditioned, clean and free of dust. 2. Install lighting fixtures in accordance with the fixture manufacturer's written instructions 3. Fasten fixtures securely to the indicated structural support members of the building; and check to ensure that solid pendant fixtures are plumb. 4. Lay-in fixtures shall be supported independently of the suspended ceiling framing members by at least two tie wires located on opposite corners of each fixture. 5. Fixtures other than lay-in type shall be securely fastened in accordance with NEC Article LIGHTING FIXTURES SCCPSS BID #C16-33 (ESPLOST)
4 No (B). 6. Fixtures installed in rated ceilings shall comply with the U.L. Fire Resistance Directory for the ceiling design encountered. B. Layout: 1. Locate fixtures as indicated on the reflected ceiling plans. C. Recessed Fixtures: 1. It is anticipated that piping and ductwork systems will be installed prior to the installation of ceiling systems and lighting fixtures. Coordinate recess depth of fixtures, on an areaby-area basis, with other trades, to ensure that sufficient recess depth is maintained. 2. Maintain clearance from thermal insulation and combustible materials as required by the NEC. D. Emergency fixtures: 1. Where emergency fixtures with integral emergency ballasts are shown to be switched, pull an unswitched phase conductor to emergency ballast. 2. Do not switch exit lights LAMPS: A. Follow the manufacturers instructions regarding the handling of lamps while installing. B. Burn all fluorescent lamps continuously for 100 hours, or as recommended by lamp / ballast manufacturer, before operating switching systems CLEANING: A. Prior to final inspection, clean lighting fixtures in a manner recommended and approved by the manufacturer. B. Replace any components that are damaged SPARE PARTS: A. Provide 2 spare exit lights and 25 of associated raceway and conductors to connect to nearest un-switched lighting circuit. Spare signs shall be added in locations where Authority Having Jurisdiction requires. B. Provide 2 spare emergency ballasts for linear fluorescent fixtures. Spare ballasts shall be installed in already placed fixtures where Authority Having Jurisdiction requires. C. If spare equipment listed above are not needed for installation, turn over to Owner TESTING: LIGHTING FIXTURES SCCPSS BID #C16-33 (ESPLOST)
5 A. Test all fixtures for proper operation. Replace lamps and ballasts that are not working properly. B. Test the emergency lighting system by opening the main circuit breaker serving the facility. 1. Schedule the test with all trades to ensure the tests will not have adverse effects on other equipment and to make sure that other systems properly shut-down and restart. 2. The test shall be conducted at night, in the presence of the Architect, Using Agency and State Fire Marshal. 3. The assembled persons will walk the project to: a. Verify operation of equipment installed. b. Review lighting levels on an area-by-area basis. END OF SECTION LIGHTING FIXTURES SCCPSS BID #C16-33 (ESPLOST)
