Based in Los Angeles, we partner with neighborhoods, nonprofits, foundations, cities, cultural institutions, developers and designers to create public programs and events that highlight the unique character and untapped potential of a particular place. With more than a quarter of a century of experience in activating the urban realm, CARS creates unique experiences where arts, culture, community and civic life collide.
3 We re not your traditional urban planners. We re urban doers. Urban Innovators In addition to our innovative work on events, CARS has established itself as a leader in the urban planning world. We design new public spaces and active transportation improvements. We develop creative approaches to neighborhood economic development. And we experiment with progressive planning strategies, employing temporary, tactical interventions to showcase what could be. At the core of our urban planning practice is the belief that every place, neighborhood and city possesses a layered history and cultural identity that should be explored and considered throughout the life of a project.
4 As urban planners, we are obsessed with digging into a site s unique identity and defining strategies for how a new development, park, public space, or even streetscape can honor these place-based characteristics while serving the contemporary needs of the current and future population. We are fascinated by the multiple ways in which diverse groups interact with a particular place and we call upon our years of experience as event producers to develop plans that are flexible and attractive to these varied audiences. Dubbed by The New York Times as Los Angeles preeminent festival producer, CARS designs, installs and oversees large-scale festivals and other community-focused events for a local, national and international clientele. Wildly accessible, our work provides participants the opportunity to engage with their neighbors, with cultural creativity and with the dynamic spark of urban life. CARS founders Katie Bergin and Aaron Paley and their dedicated staff have created, produced and promoted some of Los Angeles most innovative cultural programs and events in public space.
