2 INTRODUCTION The Materials Science & Smart Materials conference provides a forum for both researchers and practitioners around the world to present papers on recent developments in the fields of materials characterisation, design, development manufacturing, and application. The conference will provide a platform for presenting research papers by internationally recognised experts and young scientists working in the field of Materials Science and Smart Materials. The organising committee of the conference invites papers from researchers and practitioners from academic as well as industry within the scope of the conference subjects. SCOPE The conference particularly welcome papers related to industrial based projects. 3 PRIZES Sponsored prizes, will be awarded for the best papers presented by graduate students. Judges will decide on the awards based on the quality of both the written paper and the presentation. THE VENUE The conference will be held at UWS Paisley Campus. Paisley forms part of a contiguous urban area with Glasgow. The distance from Paisley to Glasgow city centre is around 11km. Glasgow International Airport is located close to Paisley town centre (4 km to UWS Paisley Campus), with Prestwick Airport being located 45 km (35 minutes by train) from UWS Paisley Campus.
