1 Outlet Retrofit Hitzel Terrace The town owned parcel along Hitzel Terrace is a natural wetland area which currently provides some level of stormwater detention and peak-flow attenuation. The proposed project would involve retrofitting the existing culvert under Hitzel Terrace with a low-flow outlet structure to allow for additional ponding and detention of stormwater in the town owned area. The proposed retrofit would not increase flow to the existing downstream privately owned pond. The State Wetlands Ecologist determined this area to be a Class III Wetland, so wetlands are not a limiting factor for construction. The U.S. Army Corps project manager determined this site may qualify as Category 1 of the VT General Streams Alteration Permit, so only a self-verification form would be required. 2 Outlet Retrofit 4375-INDS - Wynnmere Pond Retrofit The Wynnmere Senior Housing Project on Killington Avenue (expired permit #4375-INDS) consists of a series of catchbasins and swales that drain to a detention pond. Though the pond meets the 2002 Vermont Stormwater Design Standards, it was determined that the pond has capacity for additional detention to maximize flow control. The retrofit would involve raising the outlet structure to increase Channel Protection storage by 0.11 acre-feet. Survey should be completed to verify outlet inverts and detention capacity prior to implementation INDS Drainage area (acres) Impervious area managed (acres) 3.65 High-Flow Target 21% % $10,

3 Detention Swale Nancy Ln VELCO Adjacent to the power lines, just west of Nancy Lane, a BMP is proposed. BMP would require amending the existing soil in a long vegetated swale with periodic stone check dams to detain the 1-yr design storm. A concrete weir is proposed at the outlet of the channel to control overflow. Two swales would need to be rerouted to this BMP - one along Janice Ave currently draining to the north of the proposed BMP and another along Killington Ave. This project would require approval by VELCO. 4 Gravel Wetland Industrial Park Runoff from a large section of this industrial park currently flows north via a swale through the wooded area to the east of the buildings and enters the stream untreated. A gravel wetland is proposed to capture this runoff prior to the stream and outside of the river corridor. Drainage area (acres) 8.48 Impervious area managed (acres) % High-Flow Target % $307,

5 Detention Swale N End Dr VELCO Adjacent to the power lines, just west of N End Drive, a BMP is proposed. BMP would require amending the existing soil in a long vegetated swale with periodic stone check dams to detain the 1-yr design storm. A concrete weir is proposed at the outlet of the channel to control overflow. The culvert can be rerouted at the north end of David Road to the west along N End Dr. This project would require approval by VELCO. 6 Detention Swale VELCO / Carmel Place VELCO Adjacent to the power lines, just west of Carmel Place (Wynnmere Senior Housing Development) there is a naturally depressed area that collects runoff from homes along Victoria Drive and Killington Ave. The proposed BMP would consist of amending the existing soil in a 1,700 ft long vegetated swale with periodic stone check dams to detain the 1-yr design storm. A concrete weir is proposed at the outlet of the channel to control overflow. This project would require approval by VELCO. Drainage area (acres) Impervious area managed (acres) 2.27 High-Flow Target 11% % $65,

7 Gravel Wetland Cannon Dr Currently, a large area of impervious cover exists in the cul-de-sac at the end of Cannon Dr. This much impervious cover is not necessary to accommodate traffic turning around at the end of this residential low traffic street. As such, it is proposed that with the exception of a strip of drivable pavement around the outer edge of the cul-de-sac, the impervious cover be removed and the stormline from the west side of the road rerouted to a gravel wetland in the center of this currently paved cul-de-sac. 8 VTrans/ Gravel Wetland Randbury Rd A gravel wetland is proposed behind the new Aldi Store along Route 7/ Cold River Rd. VTrans owns approximately 20% of the impervious cover managed by this BMP and thus should be engaged as a partner. This retrofit would also improve the highly eroded drainage ditch. The site is underlain by sandy soils, so infiltration of runoff may be possible. The State Fisheries Biologist determined this drainage ditch to be void of fisheries resources, so ditch alterations would be feasible. Design could align with the Town s re-development goals for the area including a new access road to ease traffic on Route 7, which would require a stormwater management regardless. 9 Gravel Wetland Roadside Chapel Parking Lot Construct a new gravel wetland in northwest corner of property. Stormwater runoff already collects in this area. Practice could be bordering parking lot and would require a small reduction in parking lot size. However, this parking lot appears oversized. Construct a swale along northwest side of lot to drain to practice. A swale along the front of the lot already directs stormwater to this area. The roof is already managed with a dripline infiltration trench. Drainage area (acres) 1.58 Impervious area managed (acres) 0.41 High-Flow Target 26% % $18,000

10 Bioretention Gleason Rd Bioretention Currently stormwater from part of Town Line Rd and Gleason Rd enter a driveway culvert and then makes its way to the nearby stream via a swale. A bioretention constructed after the culvert outlet could capture and treat this stormwater before it reaches the stream. Drainage area (acres) 0.70 Impervious area managed (acres) 0.33 High-Flow Target 48% % $26,000

11 Bioretention Gleason Rd Swale Drainage from road and several residences currently flows through grass swale with little to no detention. It would be a fairly easy opportunity to add detention to the swale. A bioretention in this area could reduce stormwater velocity and improve water quality before it enters the nearby stream. Drainage area (acres) 6.45 Impervious area managed (acres) % High-Flow Target % $61,000

12 Gravel Wetland Connor Dr Stormwater from several residences, part of Karen Dr, and part of Connor Dr currently drains to a swale along the south side of Connor Dr. This swale then drains directly to the stream. There is space to capture roadside drainage following both culvert outlets and construct gravel wetland to manage this stormwater before it enters the stream. Drainage area (acres) 1.43 Impervious area managed (acres) % High-Flow Target % $34,000

13 Detention Basin Sid Harvey's Stormwater from Quality Ln and vegetated lawn areas collect in swale in front of business before passing under Quality Ln to enter stream. Construct new detention basin in lawn area. A pre-treatment forebay could be constructed before driveway, which would capture more of the parking lot stormwater runoff. Drainage area (acres) 1.74 Impervious area managed (acres) % High-Flow Target % $25,000

14 Gravel Wetland Ann Clark Cookie Cutters Redirect swale that currently passes under the business's driveway to drain to the back (northeast) corner of parking lot. There is already an informal swale in this area. Stormwater from the rest of the drainage area already collects in this corner. Create new gravel wetland in the northeast corner of parking lot. 15 Bioretention Cold River Rd Bioretention West Create new bioretention in northwest corner of drainage area. Stormwater is already concentrated here before passing under the road. This is a grassed area, and an aesthetically pleasing bioretention could be an appealing option for homeowners. 16 Bioretention Quality Ln and Cold River Bioretention / Redirect stormwater to new bioretention practice across Cold River Rd to the west of culvert outlet. A vegetated swale along the north side of Cold River Rd would help to redirect roadside drainage to this area, maximizing treated impervious area.
