4 From June Regents Presentation Summary and Next Steps: Option A, Siting for University Commons Continue process of converting administrative space to academic space around The Quad. University Avenue should remain open to through traffic due to extreme impact on vehicular traffic through campus and benefit of visibility/activity of vehicles. However, improvements/modifications should be employed to enhance pedestrian priority of this area as well as Georgia Avenue. Do not build on the Rebel s Rest site in the short term. Maintain this site for future key development opportunities. Utilize rear area for expansion of parking in the short term using sustainable best practices for site development. Focus University Commons considerations on two sites: Thompson Union and Fulford Hall sites.

Consider locating Sewanee Outdoors Program into Globe location. Renovate Globe and Bookstore to address facility needs and accessibility. Expand parking behind Globe area. Further study traffic impact and potential for removing South Carolina Avenue intersection at University Avenue.

In siting the UC, prioritize visible connections to and from spaces within the UC to The Quad and University Avenue. Both the Fulford and Thompson Union sites are approaching maximum building capacity to accommodate 50,000 GSF. Consider options to trim the UC Program on site. Consider the totality of student life and community functions along University Avenue corridor.
