6 North Hutchinson Island Projects C. Landscaping Along A1A This project is intended to improve the aesthetics at the Jensen Beach round-about and in areas all along A1A by providing native, colorful flowering ground covering, shrubs and trees. A typical landscaping pod could be developed and used around both the Jensen Beach round-about and also the proposed round-about at MacArthur Boulevard. The same landscaping pod could be modified and amended to be used for landscaping along the length of A1A. The intent would be to design a consistent landscaping plan for the length of A1A and a complementary landscaping plan for the round-abouts. E. Improved Pedestrian Crosswalks/Landscape Medians at Intersections This would be both an esthetic and safety project, which would provide native, flowering plants within raised medians and stamped asphalt, or paver block crosswalks for safe landing areas while crossing one lane of traffic at a time. This work could be in conjunction with improvements to the round-about, see projects H & I. F. Pedestrian Crosswalks and Landscaped Medians This project s intent is to provide safer pedestrian crossing of A1A. There are a number of condominium complexes that own property on both the ocean and river side of the island and, there are very few striped crosswalks for pedestrians to use to cross A1A. This project is to consider such locations and construct safer crosswalks, possibly with pavers or stamped asphalt, signage and landscaped medians to provide for a safe area between travel lanes. Possible locations for these cross walks would in the area of Hutchinson House, Buttonwood, Maritimes Condo, Ocean View, Sandpebble, and Holiday Inn Oceanside (pictured in exhibit). H. Enlarge and Add Right-hand Turn Lanes to Jensen Beach Round-About This is a traffic improvement project that proposes to construct right-hand turn lanes on both, A1A south onto Jensen Beach Causeway and also from Jensen Beach Causeway east onto A1A south. The right hand turn lanes would incorporate landscaped medians and improved pedestrian crosswalks, see project E. The project would consider enlarging the round-about to better accommodate larger vehicles and trailers. I. Enhancements to Jensen Beach Round-About This would be an aesthetics project that proposes to enhance the center of the round-about with a statue, similar to the dolphins at the Indian Riverside Park and possibly incorporating a water fountain, lighting or landscape bed. J. Enhancements to The Entrances of the Public Beaches The project s intent would be to develop a consistence artistic design (such as a sailfish) that identifies the entrances to the public beaches and incorporate the design in the beach access roadway by the use of pavers or on enhanced signage. K. Add and Lengthen Turn Lanes for Holiday Inn This project proposes to add a left turn lane into the Holiday Inn Oceanside and to lengthen the right and turn lanes to avoid a potential stopped traffic situation. Yates & Company Realty, LLC 6
7 Fort Pierce Attractions Ft. Pierce is a diverse yet neighborly community, embracing both the richness of our heritage and the promise of the future in St. Lucie County. Downtown has retained its old Florida charm and scale, as it has welcomed new development and revitalization. The historic waterfront downtown affords residents contemporary shopping, dining, great fishing and a range of entertainment and activities from the Farmers Market, Bike Night, Friday Fest, Jazz Market and the city owned and operated historic, 1,200 seat Sunrise Theatre for the Performing Arts. Main Attractions Include: A. E. BACKUS MUSEUM & GALLERY DOWNTOWN ROUNDABOUT: The Downtown roundabout is the best-known public space in the city. It was the first of many streets rebuilt in the mid-1990's designed to improve pedestrian safety and enhance the aesthetics of otherwise routine public works. Future urban projects throughout the Treasure Coast of Florida, including several roundabouts built in Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County, followed many of its innovative features. FORT PIERCE BRANCH LIBRARY: The Fort Pierce Public Library is the most used facility in the library system. Citizens and visitors enjoy the waterfront location and the comfort of the Mediterranean style building. FORT PIERCE CITY MARINA: Features a state of the art dock system, located on Florida s Treasure coast in historic downtown Fort Pierce, and is a short distance from the Bahamas. ST.
