Description: This property has potential cultural heritage value as an example of Oakville's historic lakefront estates. The property at 2182 Lakeshore Road East is a lakefront estate stretching from Lakeshore Road to the shore of Lake Ontario. The property is characterised by carefully designed and well-maintained landscaping features (vegetation and built features), a main estate house, pool and pool house, and several outbuildings. Historical and Thematic Associations The property at 2182 Lakeshore Road East is one of a number of lakefront estates constructed along the shore of Lake Ontario by wealthy business men (predominately from Toronto and Hamilton) as summer homes or country estates in the first quarter of the 20 th century. A site visit and property-specific research using Land Registry records, Census data, City Directories, Tax Assessment information, and aerial imagery from the first half of the 20 th century is necessary to determine the exact dates of construction of the main estate house, outbuildings and prominent landscaping features. 7. Contextual Associations The estate at 2182 Lakeshore Road East is the only example of an intact historic lakefront estate in the immediate vicinity. Surrounding estates have been subdivided for residential development or left vacant (as is the case with Lakeshore Road and the vacant parcel immediately west of 2182). 52-4

Analysis & Recommendations Potential Heritage Value: The property at 2182 Lakeshore Road East may have architectural and design value as a rare or representative example of an early 20 th century lakefront estate. The entire property has been landscaped and designed and the estate grounds may display a high degree of craftsmanship and artistic merit. Although it has evolved over time, additions and alterations have been undertaken sympathetically. The estate is one of the few remaining, intact examples of an historic lakefront estate and is characteristic of a period in Oakville s history when a number of prominent and wealthy families constructed lakefront estates as summer estates or country homes. It may be a key piece in supporting the character of the area as a neighbourhood of early-20 th century lakefront estates. Actions: It is recommended that a site visit and site-specific research be undertaken to document and map the built and natural features that comprise the cultural heritage landscape at 2182 Lakeshore Road East in order to designate the property under Part IV of the OHA. A low priority level is recommended for the following reasons: No known vulnerabilities; and All existing built and natural cultural heritage resources may not have been identified or included in listing. 52-7
