3 THE MUNICIPAL LEADERS FORUM MISSION STATEMENT The Municipal Leader s Forum (MLF) is an important initiative of the Chapter and recognizes the important role of Municipalities in terms of providing leadership in policy and practice in the area of sustainable design and development. The MLF Working Group provides a critical network of professionals operating in the municipal sector. The Working Group aims to provide important contacts in the green building sector, promote information sharing, education, and capacity building.
4 ABOUT THE CAGBC Coalition of public and private building industry leaders National non-profit organization founded December 2002 License holder for LEED in Canada since 2004, developer and administrator for LEED Canada (certification, accreditation and workshops) Remarkable growth and success in market transformation 8 Regional Chapters including 2 in Ontario to support a very strong market here
5 ABOUT THE CAGBC CaGBC Our mission guides our work: Lead and accelerate the transformation to highperforming, healthy green buildings, homes and communities throughout Canada. Our Vision A transformed built environment leading to a sustainable future The Council works to: change industry standards, develop best design practices and guidelines, advocate for green buildings, and develop educational tools to support its members in implementing sustainable design and construction practices.
6 ABOUT THE CHAPTER Focus on Regional Markets and individual green building professionals in those markets Nearly 400 Paid Chapter members Reach to over 6000 green building professionals in the region Monthly education, networking, outreach programs and events Broad relationships with industry stakeholders across a wide range of sector participants Leadership from diverse Board of Directors with influence in a wide range of areas of the sector

13 CAGBC NATIONAL (2007) GOAL OF THE NATIONAL CAGBC MUNICIPAL TOOL KIT The Municipal Green Building Toolkit aims to increase understanding of key issues and processes related to greening municipally owned buildings. The Toolkit is a resource to assist municipal decision makers in identifying and implementing measures to increase the number of green buildings within their jurisdictions. Advantages Include: Toolkit features examples across North America Assists Municipalities in understanding what s out there Information can be spread nationally to help other areas

16 CHAPTER INITIATIVE REGIONALIZATION ONTARIO POWER AUTHORITY (OPA) CONSERVATION FUND APPLICATION Application filed by the Greater Toronto Chapter of the CaGBC with the TRCA and major contributing partner Project to be undertaken by the Sustainability Group at MMM Group (Scott Armstrong, Project Lead) Steering Committee composed of OPA staff, selected members of MLF and Chapter volunteers Project to be finalized by February 2012
17 CHAPTER INITIATIVE REGIONALIZATION GOAL OF THE GREATER TORONTO REGIONAL ADDENDUM TO THE NATIONAL CAGBC TOOLKIT Feature policy work relevant to the GTA / Ontario legislative environment PPS, Planning Act, Municipal Act and Green Energy & Economy Act (what works for Dockside Green might not work here) Create the potential for common application (avoid duplication) Place the GTA Chapter as a leader in the space and create a model for other Regions

19 CREATING A BRAND THE GTA REGIONAL ADDENDUM TO THE MUNICIPAL SUSTAINABLE COMMUTITIES TOOLKIT The objective is to create a recognizable brand for the project and become recognized as the place to go for resourcing municipal policy ideas for sustainable communities a very short survey requesting suggestions for "branding" the final product is located at for your completion. Please complete by Monday, February 13. The top three suggestions will be voted by the committee members on February 21st at the web design webinar.

24 THE NEIGHBOURHOODS GO GREEN LEED ND GREATER GOLDEN HORSESHOE CHALLENGE Is a campaign aimed at local, regional municipalities, provincial and federal government representatives, and the development community, to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable urban design and planning, and the LEED for Neighbourhood Development criteria. Is a call to action to complete at least one LEED for Neighbourhood Development project in each of the municipalities and counties in the Greater Golden Horseshoe over the next five years. Is a challenge to local leaders to integrate sustainable neighbourhood design policy throughout al levels of government, and assume an international leadership role.
