2 Introduction The purpose of this PowerPoint Presentation is to familiarize the viewer with the Indiana University Campus Division, a dedicated group of men and women who are committed to maintaining Indiana University as one of the most beautiful university campuses in the world. It never fails to amaze that we accomplish this task with 43 full time employees covering a 2100 acre campus.

9 Campus Crews Typical Duties Mowing String trimming Pruning of trees and shrubs & limb pick up. Mulching Spot Spraying Insect Control Weeding Leaf removal Playground maintenance Litter pick up (stick & bucket) Empty all campus trash cans (daily) Remove all pallets & lumber from all campus loading docks Snow removal on walkways and steps, ice melt application. When we mention the square feet in steps please consider the fact that these are all hand shoveled during snow season.

19 Maintenance Level 2 Bi-Monthly mowing Weed trimming every 3-4 weeks Shrub pruning 1-2 times per season Minimal fall leaf removal Some grass clumping to be expected Litter lines will be mowed to expedite litter control. Example Area: Areas along the bypass

20 Maintenance Level 3 Turf to be maintained at a 12 Level Average 1-2 mowings per season Pruning only as needed. Litter lines will be mowed along roadways. Areas will have paths mowed to allow pedestrian movement. No fall leaf removal. Example: Fields along Range Road.

25 Snow Removal Facts It takes all of our trucks 12 hours to do one complete pass of IU snow responsibilities depending on the amount of snow. Then we start over again Every piece of equipment has a designated route. Every Campus Division employee participates in snow removal. Over pound bags of ice melt are applied to walks and steps annually We utilize approximately 1200 tons of bulk salt annually. We do not utilize sand.

26 Construction Crew Responsibilities All exterior campus site work construction Masonry walls & exterior concrete, stamped concrete Sidewalk construction and repair, sidewalk grinding Street cleaning and sweeping Brick and slate walkways and patios construction & repair Maintain all exterior hardscapes around all campus buildings Earthwork /Backhoe Work Post & Chain installation and maintenance Curbs and handicap ramps All employees have their CDL Street and Parking Lot Snow Removal The Campus Division Construction Crew works closely with the Indiana University Landscape Architects on campus wide enhancement projects.

32 The Legacy (cont.) Our objective is to preserve and develop the woodland campus atmosphere at Indiana University. The evolution of the campus has brought with it expansion to the north and east of the Old Crescent. Now we must incorporate the woodland theme in that newer part of the campus as well, to soften the edges of concrete and stone and to embrace the whole campus in the loveliness of the woodland theme.
