1 Introduction The UL listed Phone-A-Stat (model # 7632 ) is designed and approved for the safe operation of remotely controlling four independent loads, such as a sprinkler system or a water heater via your telephone or manually on-site. Another example would be to connect an output to the thermostat s phone interface (which requires a dry contact) to switch from Comfort mode to Vacation mode and vice versa. This would allow you to turn your heat up or down via your telephone or manually on-site. Safety Guidelines 1. DO NOT USE WITH FLAMMABLE OR EXPLOSIVE FLUIDS SUCH AS GASOLINE, FUEL OIL, KERO- SENE, ETC. 2. DISPLAY PANEL MUST BE MOUNTED INDOORS. FOR OUTDOOR APPLICATIONS CONSULT FACTORY. 3. TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCKS, THE DIRECT CONNECTION OF A LOAD EXCEEDING 30 VAC IS NOT PERMITTED UNLESS THE PHONE-A-STAT IS INSTALLED INSIDE A CERTIFIED ELECTRICAL BOX. Tools & Supplies needed for installation 1. Flat blade screw driver 2. Small phillips screw driver 3. Drill and 9/64 drill bit to make a pilot hole for the mounting anchors 4. Hammer to tap in the anchors into the sheet rock. INSTALLATION 1. The Phone-A-Stat includes the following components; The logic and digital display panel (Fig. A), a 16 ft/ 5 m telephone cable (Fig. B), a power supply (Fig. C), mounting screws and anchors (Fig. D) a reference card (Fig. E) and a programable thermostat (Fig. F) (Fig. A) (Fig. B) (Fig. C) By Alderon Industries (Fig. D) (Fig. E) (Fig. F) 2. If you are using an answering machine, position the answering machine switch to ON before installing the Phone-A-Stat. Make sure that your answering machine answers after a minimum of 4 rings. 2 INSTALLATION CONTINUED Typical Installation - Fig. G Mount the Phon-A-Stat near a telephone outlet. NOTE: If you plan to connect a load having more than 30 VAC on the auxiliary outputs, the Phone-A- Stat must be installed inside a certified electrical box. OPTIONAL. Connect your phone (or answering machine) to the PHONE connector of the Phone-A-Stat. Connect one end of the telephone cable to the LINE connector of the Phone-A-Stat and the other end to the telephone outlet in your home. Fig. G Connect the loads. The four outputs of the Phone-A-Stat allow you, for example, to activate or deactivate the lighting system, the sprinkler system, the water heater, etc. You can also connect a thermostat s telephone interface (which requires a dry contact) to automatically switch from Comfort mode to Vacation mode and vice versa. NOTE: The capacity per output is VAC. However, to avoid electrical shocks, the direct connection of a load exceeding 30 VAC is not permitted unless the Phone-A-Stat is installed inside a certified electrical box. EXAMPLE: When all connections have been made, connect the power transformer to the 9 VAC outlet of the Phone-A-Stat (Fig. H) and the other end to the wall electrical outlet (Fig. I). The power indicator light is ON (Fig. J) when the circuit is powered. (Fig. I) (Fig. J) (Fig. H) P/N L1159 Page 2 of 11

Fan Modes (Fan button) The Phone-A-Stat thermostat is equipped with a fan button offering two fan settings: On and Automatic. When On: ( ) the fan runs continuously. The Automatic setting allows the fan to run only during heating or cooling cycles. #10c. Balance Point Cut-Off The Phone-A-Stat thermostat requires a Remote Temperature Interface and the outdoor sensor to use this function. This option allows the user to define the temperature set point at which the heat pump compressor will be cut-off and only the auxiliary heat will be used when heating is required. The auxiliary heat is automatically activated on a call for heat when the outdoor temperature falls below the balance point. The heat pump compressor will be re-activated only when the outdoor temperature is at least 1 C (1 F) higher than the cut-off set point. The default balance point cut-off is -8 C (17 F). Press and hold Heat/Cool until the set point is displayed. Use the buttons to set the new balance point. Press Heat/Cool to exit. 4. #10D. Automatic Changeover When the AUTO mode (automatic changeover) is selected, the thermostat analyzes the system s requirements and automatically alternates between HEAT and COOL mode to provide occupant comfort. There are two ways to use the automatic changeover mode: Fixed Set point When you set the temperature using the arrow buttons, the Phone-A-Stat uses this unique temperature set point for temperature control. The thermostat automatically switches to HEAT mode when the ambient temperature drops under the temperature set point whereas the COOL mode is activated when the temperature rises above the temperature set point. In order to switch modes, the ambient temperature must be maintained over or under the control band for more than 12 minutes. Predefined Set point ( or ) When a predefined set point button is selected, the Phone-A-Stat thermostat uses the corresponding COOL and HEAT set point temperatures for temperature control. The thermostat automatically switches to COOL mode when the ambient temperature rises above the COOL set point whereas the HEAT mode is activated when the ambient temperature drops below the HEAT set point. In order to switch modes, the ambient temperature must be maintained over or under the set point control band for more than 12 minutes. P/N L1159 Page 10 of 11
