2 Background Controls incentivized in statewide MF Energy Efficiency Rebate (MFEER) Expected savings of 34 and 45 therms/yr-apt for post-1970 and pre-1970, respectively Measured savings averaged 14, 12, and ¼ therms/yr-apt across three control manufacturers (25% realization rate) PG&E pulled the plug and Sempra searched for a new approach 2

4 Sempra Did Not Want to Pull the Plug In CA, there are 4.2 Million MF households About ½ in SoCalGas and SDG&E s territory The 4.2M pay about $.7 Billion per year for DHW In much of Sempra s area, energy/household for DHW is greater than energy for heating and cooling combined. 4
