4.2 Housing Appliance versions 30" and 36": The appliance versions are designed to be installed in built-in units of different widths (30 and 36 ). Therefore the front panel has different widths. The size of the other parts of the housing is identical. Material: The outer housing is made of steel. The inner compartment of the warming drawer is made of stainless steel. The air locked between the inner and outer housing provides thermal insulation for the warming drawer. Components integrated in the housing: Fully extendable runners (without self-closing runner) Electronics module with control panel Auxiliary heater Power coupling for the heating element of the glass plate 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 19 von 38

4.3 Carriage with heated glass plate The carriage consists of several components. 1. The pull-out rails connect the carriage to the fully extendable runners of the housing. 2. A glass plate (hard glass) forms the base of the carriage. 3. The underside of the glass plate features a printed foil heater. The power of the heater is 515 W. 4. A power coupling on the rear of the carriage connects power to the foil heater when the carriage is closed (principle: cordless kettle) 5. Front and handle of the front panel vary depending on the make and version of the warming drawer. 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 20 von 38

4.4 Auxiliary heater The auxiliary heater consists of a heating coil and a cross-flow fan. Both components are connected with the PLATES temperature setting. The auxiliary heater supplies the inner compartment with additional heat. The heating coil warms the air in the inner compartment of the warming drawer. A two-point temperature switch controls the temperature. The cross-flow fan circulates the air in the warming drawer. The circulating air flows around the utensils. As a result, the temperature is distributed evenly in the warming drawer. Therefore several utensils warm up more quickly. 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 21 von 38

5 FUNCTIONS 5.1 Controlling the temperature Technical principle: The printed conductors of the foil heater consist of a metal alloy, the resistance of which increases as the temperature rises (PTC). The specific resistance of the heating element is 0.1 ohm/k. The electronics module controls the temperature of the glass plate on the basis of the temperature-dependent resistance of the heating element. Procedure: The electronics module measures the resistance of the heating element at intervals of 25 seconds. To conduct this measurement, the electronics module interrupts the heating circuit for 0.5 seconds. The electronics module compares the measured value of the resistance with the required value. This required value is saved in the electronics module for the selected control setting. When the warming drawer is switched on for the first time in the factory, the resistance and the surface temperature of the glass plate are measured at room temperature. The electronics module saves the measured value. The associated heating curve is determined in consideration of the temperature of the glass plate. 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 22 von 38

5.2 Calibration of temperature and resistance Why does the heating element resistance require calibration? The temperature of the glass plate is controlled indirectly. The electronics module measures the temperature-dependent resistance of the heating element. To establish a correlation between the temperature and the resistance, these two variables must be calibrated. When is the calibration required? The calibration must always be run if there is a new combination of electronics module and glass plate with heating element. This situation occurs during production of the warming drawer in the factory, if replacing the electronics module or if replacing the glass plate. 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 23 von 38

5.3 Factory settings of the electronics module Heating curve: There are no default values saved in the electronics module for the resistance of the heating element and for the temperature of the glass plate: Following installation of a new electronics module, the temperature and resistance must be calibrated (see error codes). Rapid heating up of the warming drawer at the PLATES temperature setting: The aim is that the inner compartment of the warming drawer heats up quickly when the appliance has been switched on. Therefore the electronics module controls the temperature of the glass plate first to 200 F (93 C). This heating-up phase lasts 12.5 minutes. Then the controller operates at the required value 170 F (77 C) of the PLATES temperature setting. Error codes: Display E01 E02 E03 Meaning The required temperature was not reached after 90 heating cycles. The heater was switched off. The appliance must be calibrated. There is no valid data available. The heating element resistance of the glass plate is less than 23 ohm (short-circuit detected). The heater was switched off. 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 24 von 38

6 REPAIR 6.1 Calibration of temperature and resistance The electronics module features a service mode. This service mode must be activated for calibration of the glass plate temperature and resistance of the printed heating element Conditions for calibration The warming drawer was not operated prior to calibration. The temperature of the glass plate is at room temperature and must not exceed 99 F (37 C). The temperature of the glass plate is the same on all points of the surface. Note: Even after the warming drawer has been operating for a short time, the temperature of the glass plate is over 99 F (37 C). If the temperature of the glass plate is too high, a fan will cool it down more quickly. A cold glass plate can be heated up to room temperature by briefly operating the warming drawer Implementing the calibration The following steps are required to implement the calibration: Operator action LED Display Remark Open warming drawer Off Off Initial state Press buttons and + for 10 s Close the warming drawer within the 20 s and wait until the LED flashes Flashes for 20 s Is lit and flashes later SEr for 20 s SEr No action Return to initial state Open warming drawer Flashes SEr Service mode is activated Press PLATES button for 5 s Measure temperature of the glass plate Set measured value of the temperature with the and + buttons Close warming drawer and open again Flashes F:68 F.68 is the default temperature SEr At least three measuring points Flashes F:74 Temperature 74 F here as example Flashes F:74 Measure the resistance and calculate the heating curve Press PLATES button for 5 s Flashes five times Leave service mode 157_ _ara_en_b Seite 25 von 38
