Before using your new induction hob Remove all protective film that may still be on your induction hob. Clean the glass surface with a damp cloth. Do not use aggressive detergents such as abrasive cleaners that can scratch the surface, abrasive diswashing sponges, or stain removers. Choosing the right cookware Do not use cookware with jagged edges or a curved base. Make sure that the base of your pan is smooth with a minimum thickness of 3mm, sits flat against the glass, and is no less than 120mm in diameter. Always centre your pan on the cooking zone. Always lift pans off the induction hob do not slide, or they may scratch the glass. Occasionally the heated areas will switch on and off when higher heat settings are used. This is the hob trying to keep to the power setting you have set. Some switching on and off when cooking at high temperatures, e.g. deep fat frying is quite normal, causes no damage to the hob and little delay in cooking times. Excessive switching may however be caused by the use of an unsuitable saucepan. If excessive switching occurs, discontinue the use of the saucepan. To improve performance, and reduce energy, always use pans with close fitting lids. 9 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 9 05/08/ :55

An easy way to check if your existing cookware is suitable you use with your induction hob, is to touch the base with a magnet. If the magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan and your pan is a minimum of 3mm thick at the base, then it is safe to use. The thicker the base of the pan and the higher the iron content of the pan the better. Suitable/Unsuitable pans Suitable Special stainless steel pans Class Induction Hard-wearing enamelled pans Enamelled cast-iron pans Unsuitable Earthenware Some stainless steel Porcelain Copper Plastic Aluminium Induction cooking is fast Cooking using an induction hob is very fast, especially at high settings. Foods and liquids will boil very quickly so never leave the hob unattended when cooking to avoid pans boiling over or boiling dry. The power will be adjusted The cooking zone will adjust to the size of your cookware, it will only heat the pan, not the whole cooking zone. This is very good for keeping energy usage to a minimum and prevents pan handles from heating up over a cooking zone. Using the touch controls The controls respond to touch, so you don t need to apply any pressure. Use the ball of your finger. You will hear an audible tone each time a touch is registered. Make sure the controls are always clean and dry, and that there is no object (e.g. a utensil or a cloth) covering them. Even a thin film of water may make the controls difficult to operate. 10 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 10 05/08/ :55

Using your induction hob Switching on and off 1. Touch the control. The hob will switch on and the power levels digits be displayed and active indicators will flash. 2. Press the control again to switch the hob off. If a cooking zone is still hot the letter H will be displayed to show its still very hot. The H symbols may flash in the display the first time your hob is connected and switched on. This is because the hob has been heat tested at the factory, then switched off while still hot. This may also happen if you are using the hob and you have a power cut. This is not a fault. The H s will disappear from the display when you start using the hob. Do NOT touch the cooking zones when the hob is switched on or when a H is displayed. Automatic shut off For improved safety your hob is designed to shut off after a pre set maximum time for each power level. Even though the hob will automatically switch off, this will not prevent food from over cooking and burning. This is to prevent the hob accidentally being left on. Each power level has a specific operating time (see table below). The cut off time is measured from the last power level adjustment made per cooking zone. Power Level u Maximum operating time (hours) SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 11 05/08/ :55

Selecting a cooking zone Your induction hob has 4 cooking zones, the two zones on the left and right can be bridged to make one large cooking zone for larger pans/cooking pot, fish kettles or griddle plates. You have 10 seconds to select a cooking zone once the hob is switched on, if no zone is selected it will switch off. Touch the desired sliding power control to select the cooking zone. If a pan is not on the cooking zone selected, the pan detection symbol will flash in the display. If a pan is not placed onto the selected cooking zone within 10 minute of the zone being selected the zone will automatically switch off. Setting the power level Each cooking zone has 9 power levels, a boost and a warming setting. 1. Touch the scale to select the power level. 2. You can slide your finger up and down the scale to adjust the power level. Slide right to increase and left to decrease the power level. You can adjust the power level at any point during cooking. 12 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 12 05/08/ :55

Warming function This function is designed to keep your food between 40 C - 50 C. The temperature will depend on the type of cookware you are using. 1. Touch and slide your finger down the sliding power control until the symbol is displayed. 2. To switch off the warming feature touch the end of the sliding power control and a 0 will be displayed. Power boost The power boost function is for cooking at maximum power for a short period of time (max 10 minutes). Once the 10 minute power boost period has finished the power level will automatically reduce to level 9. To activate power boost, touch the P. The letter P will be displayed. To deactivate power boost, touch the sliding power control anywhere on the scale. The power boost function can only be used on two cooking zones at once, one on the left zone and one on the right zone. It cannot be activated on both left or right cooking zones at the same time. It can also not be activated if the cooking zones are bridged. 13 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 13 05/08/ :55

Automatic heat up The automatic heat up feature will temporarily increase the power to max 9 for a preset time. See table below for automatic heat up time. This is ideal if you need to get a pan to boil and then simmer. Power setting Time in Seconds Touch and hold the sliding power control at your required power level for 3 seconds. The display will start to flash with the selected power level and the letter A. If you reduce the power level the automatic heat up function will switch off and cooking will continue at the reduced power level. If you increase the power level the automatic heat up function will remain switched on unless you have selected power level 9 or Power Boost. 2. When the automatic heat up functions time has elapsed the hob will carry on cooking at the set power level and the A will stop flashing. Bridge mode This function allows you to join the two right cooking zones or the two left cooking zones together for when you need to cook with a larger pan/cooking pot, fish kettles or griddle plates. 1. Touch the left bridge symbol to connect cooking zones 1 and 3 together. The Bridge indicator will light in the display of zones 1 and 3 and the bridge indicator light will also light. OR Touch the right bridge symbol to connect cooking zones 2 and 4 together. The Bridge indicator will light in the display of zones 1 and 3 and the bridge indicator light will also light. 14 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 14 05/08/ :55

2. The zones will now be bridged (linked together. To set the power level for the left zone touch the far left (Zone 3) sliding power control. To set the power level for the right zone touch the far right (Zone 4) sliding power control. The power boost function cannot be activated if the cooking zones are bridged. 3. To switch the bridge mode off touch the left or right bridge control. The bridge indicators will disappear from the displays and the power levels will be set to 0. When bridged, there is a space between the cooking zones which isn t heated, so for best results use a thick based pan or griddle which will conduct the heat more evenly and quickly between the zones. This will help things cook evenly. Setting the child lock The child lock can be set to prevent any of the buttons from accidentally being pressed by a child or when you are cleaning the hob. The child lock can only be activated when the hob is switched off. Touch and hold the power/lock control for 3 seconds. The light above the control will switch on and you will hear a long beep. All of the controls apart from the power/lock control will now be locked. To switch the child lock off touch and hold the power/lock control for 3 seconds. The light above the control will switch off and you will hear a long beep. 15 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 15 05/08/ :55

Timer function Your hob has two types of timer function. A timer function that can be used as an alarm and a cooking zone cooking timer. The cooking zone timer enables you to set a cooking time for each cooking zone. Alarm function The maximum alarm time is 99 minutes. The hob has to be switched on to set the alarm function. 1. Touch the and 00 will be displayed. A small light will flash to show the time display is active. 2. Touch the or controls to select the amount of time to count down. After a few second the small light will stop flashing, you will hear a beep and the time will start to count down. To adjust the time touch the control, the small light must be flashing to adjust the time. Then touch the or controls. To switch the alarm function off 3. Make sure the hob is switched on then, touch the control, the small light will flash. Then touch the or controls at the same time. The time display will show 00. The alarm function is now switched off. 4. When the set time has elapsed an alarm will sound. To switch off the alarm you can touch any control. We recommend you don t touch the Power/lock control because this will switch your hob off if you are cooking. If you do not switch off the alarm sound it will automatically switch the sound off in approximately 2 minutes. 16 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 16 05/08/ :55

Setting a cooking zone timer Each cooking zone can be set to switch off at different times e.g. zone 1 set to switch off in 10 mins, zone 2 in 15 mins, zone 3 in 12 mins and zone 4 in 25 mins. You can also set a cooking zone timer for the bridged zones. When the cooking time has elapsed the cooking zone will switch off and an alarm will sound. Left bridge both indicators Zone 1 indicator Zone 3 indicator Zone 2 indicator Zone 4 indicator Right bridge both indicators Touch to scroll through the cooking zones 1. Select a cooking zone or bridged cooking zone and set the power level you wish to cook at. 2. Touch the control twice to select the cooking zone timer mode. Continue touching the control until you see the desired zone indicator light for your cooking zone. The indicator light and timer symbol for the selected zone will flash. 3. Touch the or controls to select the amount of time to count down for that cooking zone (max 99 mins). If you only want to set one timer, wait for the hob to beep and it s now set. The indicator light will flash and the time will start to count down. 17 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 17 05/08/ :55

4. To set a timer on another zone select a cooking zone and set the power level you wish to cook at. Touch the control repeatedly until the indicator light flashes next to the new zone. 5. Touch the or controls to select the amount of time to count down for that cooking zone. Wait a few seconds and the timers will start. The timer display will always show the time of the first timer to finish and its indicator light will be flashing. When the first timer finishes the cooking zone will switch off and an alarm will sound. Then the next timer to finish will be displayed. This process will repeat until all timers are finished and all cooking zones are switched off. When the alarm sounds to tell you a zone has switched off you can touch any control to switch off the sound, or if you leave it, the alarm sound will automatically switch off in approximately 2 minutes. Deleting a cooking zone timer 1. To delete a cooking zone timer, touch the control repeatedly until the indicator light displays for the cooking zone timer you want to delete. 2. Touch the or controls at the same time and the time in the display will be set to 00. The cooking zone timer is now deleted. The cooking zone will not switch off if you cancel a timer. 18 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 18 05/08/ :55

Cleaning and maintenance Before attempting any cleaning make sure the hob is switched off and has cooled down. What? How? Important! Everyday soiling on glass (fingerprints, marks, stains left by food or non-sugary spillovers on the glass) Boilovers, melts, and hot sugary spills on the glass Spillovers on the touch controls 1. Switch the power to the hob off. 2. Apply a glass hob cleaner while the glass is still warm (but not hot!) 3. Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Remove these immediately with a fish slice, palette knife or razor blade scraper suitable for ceramic glass hobs, but beware of hot cooking zone surfaces: 1. Switch the power to the hob off. 2. Hold the blade or utensil at a 30 angle and scrape the soiling or spill to a cool area of the hob. 3. Clean the soiling or spill up with a dish cloth or paper towel. 4. Follow steps 2 to 3 for Everyday soiling on glass above. 1. Switch the power to the hob off. 2. Soak up the spill. 3. Wipe the touch control area with a clean damp sponge or cloth. 4. Wipe the area completely dry with a paper towel. When the power to the hob is switched off, there will be no hot zone H indication but the cooking zone may still be hot! Take extreme care. Heavy-duty scourers, some nylon scourers and harsh/abrasive cleaning agents may scratch the glass. Always read the label to check if your cleaner or scourer is suitable. Never leave cleaning residue on the hob: the glass may become stained. Remove stains left by melts and sugary food or spillovers as soon as possible. If left to cool on the glass, they may be difficult to remove or even permanently damage the glass surface. Cut hazard: when the safety cover is retracted, the blade in a scraper is razor-sharp. Use with extreme care and always store safely and out of reach of children. The hob may make an audible tone or turn itself off, and the touch controls may not function while there is liquid on them. Make sure you wipe the touch control area dry before turning the hob back on. 19 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 19 05/08/ :55

Using the scraper 1. Slide the protective cover back to reveal the blade. The blade is very sharp be careful when handling and using the scraper. Keep the scraper out of the reach of children. 2. Place the scraper blade flat against the hob surface. Hold the scraper at an angle of around 30 and slide it against the hob to remove spills. Take care when scraping over the hot markings. 3. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. 30 Do NOT use the scraper at 90 to the hob as this could damage the hob surface. Always keep the blade flat on the surface of the hob, do NOT use the corners of the blade as this will scratch the hob surface. 20 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 20 05/08/ :55

Wiring the hob If the mains cable is damaged and needs to be replaced, this should be done by a qualified person using the proper tools, so as to avoid any accidents. The hob must be connected directly to the mains supply, an omnipolar circuit breaker must be installed with a minimum gap of 3mm between the contacts. The installer must ensure that the correct electrical connection has been made and that it complies with safety regulations. The mains cable must not be bent excessively or compressed. The mains cable must be checked regularly and only replaced by a qualified person. Before proceeding with the electrical connection, verify that the current carrying capacity of the system and the socket is adequate for the maximum power rating of the hob. If there is no dedicated hob circuit and fused switch, they must be installed by a qualified electrician before the hob is connected. The fused switch must be easily accessible once the hob has been installed. Do not use adaptors, multiple sockets and/or extension leads. A circuit breaker with a contact opening of at least 3mm, rated 32A and delayed functioning type must be installed inside the supply circuit. The cable must have these minimum specifications. Type H05VV-F or H05RR-F 4X2.5mm 2 for 3 phase or 3X6mm 2 for single phase. You will find the connection diagram shown on the bottom of your appliance and in this instruction book (for single phase connection). Make sure the cable is routed away from hot parts. An incorrect connection might damage your appliance. The guarantee will not cover such damages. All repairs must be carried out by an authorised service personal or a qualified electrician. Make sure your hob is disconnected from the mains supply before any maintenance. Cooking hobs are not provided with a supply cord. 21 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 21 05/08/ :55

Troubleshooting If you think your hob isn t working properly the following should help you find out what might be wrong. Symptom Possible cause Solution Symbols appear in the display when the hob is first switched on. The fan remains active for several minutes after the hob has been switched off. You can hear a ticking sound while the hob is on. The pans make a noise while cooking. You have switched on a cooking zone and the display is flashing. The cooking zone switches off and starts beeping. The hob is not working and the display won t switch on. A fuse blows when the hob is switched on. The hob switched off. The hob has been switched on and tested in the factory. The hob is cooling down. Ticking occurs when cooking at lower power levels. This is caused by energy flowing from the hob to the pan. You haven t placed a pan centred on the cooking zone. The pan is too small (less than 120mm in diameter) The pan is not suitable for induction hobs (Choosing the right cookware) You have set a cooking zone timer that has expired. The power to the hob may have been switched off. The child lock may have been switched on. The hob may not have been connected correctly. You may have accidentally touched the power control. This is normal the symbols will disappear when you use the hob. This is normal, the fan will switch off in a few minutes. This is normal and nothing to be worried about. At high setting this is perfectly normal for some pans. It will not damage the hob or pan. Place a pan on the cooking zone. Use a larger pan (over 120mm). Use a pan designed for induction hobs. Touch any control the switch the alarm off. Make sure the power is switched on to the hob. Touch and hold the lock control to switch the child lock off. Check the connections match the connection diagram in this instruction book. Touch the power control again to switch the hob back on. 26 SINHOBB13/W13_IB.indd 26 05/08/ :55

Fault codes Code Possible cause Solution ER22 The control may be dirty or have water on it. Clean the control panel. E2 The hob has overheated. Allow the hob to cool down. E3 U400 Display shows The pans you are using are not suitable. The voltage is too high and/or the hob is not properly connected. Something may be resting on the controls.
