WARNING - The replacement or repair of damaged wiring should only be performed by a qualified electrician or service engineer from original distributor or authorized service agent. 7. Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. 8. Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp plug, not cord. 9. Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands. 10. Turn off all controls before unplugging. 11. Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow. 12. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts. 13. Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes. 14. Do not use without vacuum bag and/or filters in place. 15. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. 16. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where y may be present. 17. Do not attempt to service unit while appliance is plugged in. 18. For grounded models, connect to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions. 19. This machine is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless y have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of machine by a person responsible for ir safety. Keep children and unauthorized persons away from machine when in use. 2
4 Grounding Instructions This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. This appliance is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like plug illustrated in. Make sure that appliance is connected to an outlet having same configuration as plug. No adapter should be used with this appliance. WARNING - Improper connection of equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to wher outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify plug provided with appliance. If it will not fit outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. 6 How to Assemble and Operate Vacuum How to Attach Handle to Vacuum Cleaner The vacuum and handle are packed separately. 1. After first removing handle screw, slide handle into slot on top of vacuum. 2. Line up small hole on handle with small hole on vacuum and insert screw. Make sure screw is tightened securely (). 3. Wind power cord around metal cord hook and carry handle when storing vacuum (Fig. 2). On/Off Pedal 1. To turn vacuum on, push power pedal on right side of vacuum nozzle from user s perspective (Fig. 3). 2. To turn vacuum off, push pedal again. Fig. 2 Fig. 3 How to Adjust Handle The handle on this vacuum can be set to one of three positions upright, middle or low. How to Adjust Handle 1. To release handle, step on handle release pedal on left side of vacuum nozzle from user s perspective and pull back handle (Fig.1). 2. Upright position for storage or when cleaning tools are used (Fig. 2). Handle locks in this position. 3. Middle position for normal cleaning (Fig. 3). 4. 7 How to Attach Extension Power Cord How to Attach Extension Power Cord to Cord Lock 1. Connect extension power cord to pigtail cord on vacuum. 2. Snap extension power cord into slot on end of cord lock. 3. Turn knob on bottom of cord lock to tighten lock and prevent cords from pulling apart (). How to Attach Cord to Retainer Hook on Handle 1. Create a loop in power cord and push it through slot and over hook of cord retainer (Fig. 2). 2. Pull down on power cord to remove any slack (Fig. 3). Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Nozzle Height Feature The height adjust dial should be on LOW setting at all times for optional cleaning performance on commercial carpet (). Use LOW Setting for Commercial Carpet Edge Cleaning Feature The edge cleaning feature provides improved cleaning near walls and stationary furniture. For maximum edge cleaning, position right side of vacuum from user s perspective near walls or stationary furniture. How to Change Vacuum Bag Always operate vacuum with a vacuum bag installed. Bags should be changed when y are 2/3 full. How to Change Vacuum Bag 1. Unplug vacuum. Remove bag compartment cover (). 2. Remove bag from bag holder by grasping sides of bag collar and pulling straight off. Attach a new vacuum bag by pushing collar onto inlet (Fig. 2). 3. Pull out bottom corners of new vacuum bag to expand bag capacity (Fig. 3). 4. Reinsert tab on end of bag compartment cover into groove on bag compartment housing. Press bag compartment cover into place, closing it tightly. Fig. 2 6 Fig. 3
8 How to Change Filters Your vacuum is equipped with a secondary filter and a HEPA media filter. These filters capture fine dust particles and protect motor from dirt. Accumulated dirt in bag compartment will be collected on filters and may restrict motor performance. It is important to change filters regularly approximately once a year or as needed. How to Change Secondary Filter 1. Unplug vacuum. Remove bag compartment cover and remove vacuum bag. 2. Remove secondary filter by sliding it out from under bag supporter (). 3. Insert a new filter, replace bag and bag compartment cover. How to Change HEPA Media Filter 1. Unplug vacuum. Remove filter cover below dust compartment cover (Fig. 2). 2. Remove filter from front of vacuum (Fig. 3). 3. Insert a new filter and replace filter cover. Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Cleaning with On-Board Tools Your vacuum is equipped with on-board cleaning tools, including a telescopic wand, stretch hose, dusting and a crevice tool. 1. To use cleaning tools, lift hose handle straight up from vacuum (). 2. Extend wand by pulling button back and pulling smaller wand out of larger wand (Fig. 2). 3. Attach any of on-board tools to end of wand, or if you do not need wand, any tool can be connected directly onto hose handle. Fig. 2 7

10 Thermal Motor Protection Your CleanMax vacuum is equipped with a rmal protector designed to protect your vacuum from overheating due to restricted airflow (i.e. clogged hose). Should this situation occur, rmal protector will automatically shut off motor to prevent damage. How to Reset Thermal Protector 1. Unplug vacuum. 2. Allow vacuum to cool at least 30 minutes. 3. Check for blockages, change vacuum bag and clean or replace filters. 4. Plug in vacuum and begin using. Please contact service agent where your CleanMax vacuum was purchased with any questions. 9
11 Troubleshooting Problem Check Point Possible Solution Suction power is weak. Vacuum bag Wand or hose Filters If vacuum bag is 2/3 full, replace it. If clogged or blocked, remove object. Clean or replace filters. The vacuum does not work. Power cord Insert power plug firmly into an electrical outlet. Sudden loss of power. Thermal reset Turn off vacuum and unplug from electrical outlet. Let vacuum cool down for at least 30 minutes before turning back on. Check for clogs. Replace vacuum bag. Dirt and debris are blowing through exhaust vent. Filters Make sure filters are clean, dry and installed correctly. All or service should be performed by service agent where your CleanMax vacuum was purchased. For Best Performance Keep machine and all accessories clean and in good operating condition. Replace bag when it is 2/3 full. Replace filters once a year or as needed. Always use genuine CleanMax filters and parts, as use of or products may result in poor cleaning or filtration performance. CleanMax filtration products are designed for maximum performance. Store machine carefully in a dry area. For optimum cleaning performance and safety, follow your owner s manual. 10
12 Warranty What Is Covered: This warranty covers any defects in material and workmanship in your new CleanMax vacuum. How Long Coverage Lasts: Warranty coverage for CleanMax vacuum lasts one year. What Is Not Covered: Damage to vacuum that occurs from neglect, abuse, alterations, accident, misuse or improper maintenance. Normal replacement items: belts, filters and disposable bags. What CleanMax Will Do: This warranty provides, at no cost to you, all labor and parts to keep this vacuum in proper operating condition during warranted period. How to Get Service: Warranty service can only be obtained by presenting vacuum to a CleanMax Service Center. A proof-ofpurchase and product serial number will be required before service is rendered. THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES WHETHER WRITTEN, ORAL, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, (INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE).
