Water cooled Gas Fired high efficiency Absorption Heat Pump provides simultaneously hot and chilled water. The water cooled GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump produces simultaneously hot water up to +65 C and chilled water down to 5 C. The unit can recover heat from renewable sources and boosting the heating efficiency up to above 150%. The Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump unit makes a wide variety of convenient applications available, for example: installation where simultaneous heating and cooling output is required for example process application, conditioning installation where cooling and re-heating is required (hotels, fitness centre, swimming pool, etc.); low temperature heating system, where there are available renewable energy sources as lake water, river water or ground; heating system recovering heating from heat sources with low/medium temperature (from -2 C up to +45 C). How it works? Water, natural sources (lakes, rivers, water tables), air and ground can be regarded as renewable and free sources of thermal energy. The Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump recovers a part of environmental free energy and add it to the energy supplied by the combustion of natural gas. The Robur GAHP-W unit uses only 2.72 m 3 /h of natural gas (25.7 kw) and supplies a heating capacity up to more than 38 kw and at the same time a cooling capacity up to 16 kw (Water- Water Version). The Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump is connected to two separate hydronic circuits: one at low temperature (evaporator) and one at high temperature (condenser and absorber) and it can recover heat from an external thermal source that could be air, water or the ground. Robur GAHP-W unit gets gas energy efficiency up to over 150% (G.U.E.), powered by the heat of gas combustion (natural gas or LPG) and by recovering free renewable energy. Versatility in the use: heating and cooling for different needs. Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump can supply hot water for heating and simultaneously chilled water for refrigeration use; it answers to the different heating and cooling needs with a single unit. Modular structure of the system: saves running costs and improves system reliability. Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump allows to compose a modular system for heating and air-conditioning. Environmental friendly. Robur GAHP-W is gas fired (natural gas or LPG) unit and uses renewable energy sources. A small amount of refrigerant fluid, about 2/3 of water and 1/3 of ammonia, is environmentally friendly and has definite advantages compared to the other refrigerants: > it is not subject to any international limit regarding the protection of the ozone layer; > it does not cause the green-house effect; > has already proven safe and reliable in thousands of Robur chillers all over the world; > its thermodynamic performances are among the best compared with other refrigerant fluids, both natural and synthetic. Wide operational parameters: heating up to +65 C (Water- Water Version) and cooling down to -5 C (Ground-Water Version). 4 FLEXIBILITY AT T ITS BEST Robur GAHP-W always makes available simultaneously a heating capacity at the condenser/absorber heat exchanger and a cooling capacity at the evaporator heat exchanger. Depending upon needs, Robur GAHP-W can be used in the following way: both simultaneous heating and cooling; heating only with heat recovery from a cold source; cooling only with heat rejection from the condenser/absorber side. When heating only is required (Fig.1), the Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump gets heat from a low temperature sources (air, water, ground), by the cold water supplied at the evaporator side. The heat recovered from the evaporator, added to the gas combustion heat, is released through the absorber/condenser to the water in the heating circuit. (Fig.1) Example of heating only. The Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump can be used to supply alternatively hot or cold water. (Fig.2) When required, it is possible to supply hot water by recovering thermal energy from an external source or to produce cold water, by removing the heat from the cooled ambient and rejecting it to the external source. 5 TWO VERSIONS FOR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump is available in two different versions: Water (open loop) application. This version is designed to recover heat from water sources and to be used when heating and cooling is required simultaneously. This version can produce simultaneously hot water up to +65 C and chilled water down to +3 C. Geothermal (closed loop) application. This version is designed to recover heat from the ground. The ground heat can be recovered by using the geothermal closed loop system (Fig.1). This Ground-Water Version can be used to produce simultaneously chilled water down to -5 C and hot water up to +60 C. (Fig.1) Just a few feet under the surface, the ground and water streams keep at an uniform temperature all year round. Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump recovers the heat from the ground, by running water in underground loops, adding it to the heating loop. In summer, the Robur GAHP-W unit, if the hydronic loop is reversed, can be used for air-conditioning and at the same time, if requested, can produce hot sanitary water. The exceeding thermal energy will be removed and accumulated in the ground to be eventually reused again in winter time. (Fig.2) Underground water (1) (or other water source) can be used to recover heat to be transferred to the evaporator of the Robur GAHP-W unit. This water is cooled down at about 5 C and then discharged back to the well (2) without being polluted. The heat can also be recovered from process water or industrial heat waste

7 THEY VE ALREADY INSTALLED ROBUR GAHP-W SCHALKVIJK ZONNEKLAAR Haarlem (Olanda) - Residential kw 600 (heating) Schalkwijk zonneklaar 16 units are used for heating and for hot sanitary water in 8 apartment buildings (376 flats). PRÀ DELLE TORRI Caorle (VE) - Tourist village kw 110 (heating) and kw 50 (cooling) 3 units supply chilled water for cooling and hot water for heating 20 bungalow. VILLA MAGNOLIA Torbole sul Garda (TN) - Hotel kw 38.8 (heating) and kw 18.4 (cooling) Villa Magnolia The unit runs in summer to supply air conditioning and hot water for the swimming pool and for sanitary use. In winter it is used for the hotel heating and for sanitary water preheating. 6

8 ENERGY BALANCE OF GAS FIRED ABSORPTION HEAT T PUMP SERIES GAHP-W GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump can reduce 50% of the length and cost of the geothermal system or of the water flow, compared to the requirement of an equivalent electric heat pump (see the comparison below). The energy balances of the Robur GAHP-W unit and of an electric heat pump with C.O.P. = 3, are reported below at these conditions: evaporator input/output water temperature 0/-5 C; condenser input/output water temperature +40/+50 C. A system controlled by a microprocessor. The microprocessor system make it possible to set several unit parameters and a self-diagnostic routine for the unit. It displays water temperatures, unit fault codes and several parameters of operation, as for example: few or no water flow in the hydronic system; high limit water temperatures switch; high limit ambient temperature switch; burner ignition lock out. Accessories. Robur supplies the following accessories to allow an easier application of the Robur GAHP-W Gas Fired Absorption Heat Pump: DDC device, anti-vibration damping pads, chilled water circulation pump, hot water circulation pump, anti-vibration flexible hoses for hot and chilled water, water filters. 8
