5 DPM-G/CR/W/B CEILING PENDANT MOUNT 1.1 PURPOSE The pendant ceiling mount is a vertical ceiling mount for mounting 9", 15" and 18" domes. The ceiling pendant mount must be installed by qualified service and installation personnel. The installation must be in accordance with all local and national electrical and mechanical codes. Use only installation methods and materials capable of supporting four (4) times the maximum load specified or 60 pounds. 1.2 INSTALLATION Perform the following steps to install a dome using a pendant ceiling mount. See Figure 1-1. A. Select the location(s) of the dome(s) and ensure a 120 Vac or 220 Vac 40 watts power source is available. B. Determine if the cabling exits into the ceiling or out the side of the top of the pendant mount pipe. If cabling exits out the side of the pipe, perform paragraph 1 below. If cabling exits into the ceiling, perform paragraph 2 below. 1. If the cabling exits out the side of the pipe, disconnect the pendant mount pipe from the ceiling mount. Attach only the ceiling flange to the ceiling using the appropriate hardware for the surface. The mounting hardware is supplied by the installer. The mount must be able to support four (4) times the maximum load specified. 1/2

9 CEILING PENDANT 2. If the cabling exits into the ceiling, mount the complete pendant mount assembly to the ceiling using the appropriate hardware for the surface. NOTE A 1½" hole (2" maximum) in the ceiling is required to accommodate the cabling connector. The mounting hardware is supplied by the installer. The mount must be able to support four (4) times the maximum load specified. C. Secure a safety cable to a building support structure. Diamond Electronics recommends using 3/32" plastic coated aircraft cable, Diamond part number Route the field wiring (data, video, power, alarm wiring SmartScan III series only, and Dave Input/Output Video if applicable) and the safety cable through the ceiling or through the side of the pipe and down through the pendant pipe. If cabling exits from the side of pipe, reconnect the pendant mount pipe to the ceiling mounting flange with the self-tapping hex head screws. The cabling and safety cable must extend one foot past the pipe for wiring purposes. D. Find the mating connector (J2) with the twisted-pair shielded pigtail cable (shipped loose). Attach the data cable to the pigtail cable (matching the wire colors; clear = data+, black = data-) using the supplied wire joints. Use a crimping tool to secure the wire joints. Attach the mating BNC connector for video, and attach the two 2-foot 18 AWG wires to the transformer. If more than a 2-foot wire length is required to connect to the transformer, see Figure 1-1 for the recommended wiring distances. If a SmartScan III series pan and tilt assembly with the alarm option is installed, connect the field-run alarm wiring to the J2 connector. If the Dave Input/Output Video option is installed, connect the field-run video cable to the Dave BNC connector. 5

10 CEILING PENDANT E. Place the decorative cover flange over cabling from the top dome and rest it on the top of the dome. F. Insert a 1/4" Dia. x 1-3/4" Lg. pin in the 1/4" hole in the threaded nipple on the top dome. Route the safety cable through a splicing sleeve, around the pin in the top dome, and then through the sleeve again. Secure by crimping the splicing sleeve using crimping tool, part number G. Attach connector P2 on the top dome to connector J2 exiting from the pipe. H. Slide the cabling and connectors up into the pendant mounting pipe. I. Carefully slide the 1½" threaded mounting nipple on the dome into the pendant mounting pipe. CAUTION Do Not Let Dome Hang From Cabling Unless A Safety Cable Is Installed. The Data/Power Cabling Is NOT Strong Enough To Hold The Weight Of The Unit. J. While holding the top dome in place, slide the decorative cover flange up over the pipe exposing the dome and pipe mounting holes. K. Line up the three mounting holes on the top dome and pipe. Use the three self-tapping hex head screws to secure the dome to the mount. L. Slide the decorative cover flange down on the dome. M. Install the pan and tilt assembly in the top dome. Refer to the installation instructions provided with your specific pan and tilt. N. Perform the following steps to install your specific bottom dome. 6

11 CEILING PENDANT 15" Dome with Locking Posts 1. Locate the 3" safety strap on the bottom dome and secure the strap to the top dome with the screw provided. The strap fits inside the bottom flange. 2. Align the key slots on the lower dome with the mounting locking posts on the top dome and twist clockwise to lock in place. NOTE The raised mark on the outside of the bayonet ring designates the location of the key slots on the bottom dome. 15 Dome with Locking Posts (CE Version) 1. Locate the 3 safety strap on the top dome and secure the strap to the bottom dome with the screw provided. The strap fits inside the bottom dome flange. 2. One of the key slots on the bottom dome has a screw inserted into the bayonet ring. Loosen the screw using a small flat blade screwdriver so it protrudes from the bayonet ring; but do not try to remove the screw. 3. Align the key slots on the lower dome with the mounting locking posts on the top dome and twist to lock in place. NOTE The raised mark on the outside of the bayonet ring designates the location of the key slots on the bottom dome. 7

12 CEILING PENDANT 4. Tighten the screw (loosened in step 2 above) using a small flat blade screwdriver on the bayonet ring to secure the bottom dome to the top dome. 9" Dome 1. Locate the safety strap on the top dome and secure the strap to the bottom dome with the screw provided. The strap fits inside the bottom flange. 2. Push the bottom up until it snaps into place. 9 Dome with Snaps 1. Make sure the protruding snaps on the outer rim of the bottom are pulled down. 2. Line up the top of the snaps with the holes in the top dome. Push the snaps up through the holes in the top dome until locked. CAUTION Do Not Release The Bottom Dome Until The Snaps Are Locked. There Is No Safety Cable Between The Top And Bottom Dome. 8

13 CEILING PENDANT 9 Dome with Snap and Twist Locks (CE Version) 1. Make sure the one protruding snap on the outer rim of the bottom dome is pulled down. Make sure the two locking fasteners are in the unlocked position (rotated fully counterclockwise). 2. Line up the top of the snap and the fasteners on the bottom dome with the holes in the top dome. 3. Push the snap up through the hole in the top dome until locked. 4. Using a flat blade screwdriver, turn the screw in the other two fasteners clockwise. 18" Dome with Snaps 1. Pull the protruding snaps on the outer rim of the bottom dome down. 2. Line up the top of the snaps with the holes in the top dome and align the safety cable on the top dome with the mounting hole on the bottom dome. 3. Push the snaps up through the holes in the top dome until locked. 4. Insert the screw on the safety cable into the hole on the bottom dome and tighten. 9

14 CEILING PENDANT SmartScan IIIB or KD6 1. Attach the safety cable from the top hat or top dome to the bottom dome. a. Remove the nut on the mounting screw on the bottom dome. b. Hook the eyelet over the screw on the bottom dome and replace the nut. CAUTION: Ensure safety cable is perpendicular to bracket as shown. 2. For installations requiring CE compliance, perform the following step, otherwise, go to step 3. a. Locate the bag containing a lock screw and 5/64 hex key (supplied with the bottom dome). b. Insert the 2-56 lock screw through the hole in the bottom dome trim ring and screw it into the bottom dome inner ring. 3. Align the bottom dome with the top hat and twist to lock the bottom dome brackets over the mounting posts. For CE compliance, tighten the lock screw in the bottom dome with the 5/64 hex key until it is snug (DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN). O. The dome assembly is now ready for final wiring and testing. Terminate the video, data, and power cabling per the site-specific wiring arrangement. 10
