Description of the machine Applications The ndustrial Cleaner is designed for specialized sectors of industrial high technology production, where a consistently high standard of cleaning is required, and where the structure of the items to be cleaned may be complex. Areas of application are: Electronics, such as circuit boards and solder frames Metal cleaning Optics Particle decontamination Cleaning process The ndustrial Cleaner works on the principle of fresh water circulation. The time for cleaning and rinsing is approx. 2-3 minutes. Drying is effected by means of an integrated drying unit. A period of 15 to 45 minutes must be added to the above time to thoroughly dry the batch, depending on the heat retention capacity of the items in the load and the amount of water remaining. The machine can be programmed, and a variety of baskets and inserts used, depending on specific needs. Special cleaning programs can be written for individual applications. 8

Description of the machine Water recycling The R 62 comes equipped with a two stage drainage system, and a pump to bring rinse water back into the machine, enabling it to be re-used. Rinse water which is still quite clean, for example from the final rinse, can be directed into an external holding tank and be fed back into the machine for the following pre-wash or main wash cycle. The holding tank does not come with the machine, and must be supplied on-site. The following procedures can be realized with the ndustrial cleaner and an external holding tank. 2. Recycling of rinse water E.g. the water of the last two rinse cycles will be re-used for the rinse or neutralization for the next batch. The waste water of the cleaning cycle will be drained into the waste water system or an effluent treatment plant. 3. Recycling of wash water The waste water of the cleaning cycle will be re-used for the cleaning cycle of the next batch. The waste water of the remaining rinse cycles will be drained into the waste water system or an effluent treatment plant. 1. Process without water recycling The whole process is performed with fresh water. The waste water is drained in the waste water system or a n effluent treatment plant. 9

Danger of scalding/burning. ^ Turn the machine off with -. Closing the door ^ Lift the door upwards and push until it clicks shut. ^ Remove the service panel and pull the ring of the emergency door release down. 13

Water softener The water needs to be softened to avoid calcium deposit buildup on the items being cleaned and in the machine itself. This takes place in the built in water softener. To ensure a steady supply of soft water: 1. Make sure the water softener is programmed correctly. The softener contains settings from 1-6 gr/gal or 2-18 ppm. 2. The salt reservoir must be filled with reactivation salt. (f the water hardness level is below 4 gr/gal [7 ppm]), the reservoir does not need to be filled.) The machine is set at the factory for a water hardness level of 19 gr/gal (34 ppm). f the water supply is harder or softer than the factory setting (including below 4 gr/gal or 7 ppm), the setting will need to be changed in the electronic control. Your local water authority will advise you on the water hardness in your area. Where the water hardness fluctuates e.g. between 8-17 d, always program the machine to the higher value, 17 in this example. f there is a fault, it will be helpful to know the water hardness of the local water supply. ^ Enter the local water hardness level: Setting the water softener The water softener must be set by the service technician after installing the machine to reactivate the water softener according to the local water hardness level. See Programming Manual "Operation information - Reactivation". Reactivation display After a certain number of cycles the message REACTVATON will appear in the display to warn you that the water softener is depleted and cannot supply any more softened water. mmediately after the program has finished, reactivation salt must be replenished. f this cannot be done immediately, and further cleaning cycles have been carried out, the reactivation process will need to be carried out twice in succession. 14

Water softener Reactivating the water softener Filling the salt container Only special, coarse-grained reactivation salt* should be used in this machine. *Available from Miele s Professional Customer Service Department. Please see back page for more information. Do not use other types of salt, e.g. table salt, agricultural or gritting salt. These could contain components which are insoluble in water and could damage the water softener. f in doubt, consult Miele s Professional Department. The salt reservoir holds approx. 2 kg of salt.,nadvertently filling the salt reservoir with detergent will damage the water softener. Before filling, make sure that you are using reactivation salt. ^ Unscrew and remove the filter insert from the salt container. ^ Fill the salt container with reactivation salt and replace the filter insert. 15

Water softener nserting the salt container ^ Remove any mobile units from the cabinet. ^ Unscrew the plastic cap located at the top right-hand side of the cabinet. ^ Screw the salt container firmly onto the socket.,a small amount of residual water will be in the cap. Take care as it may be hot from the previous program. 16

Water softener Running the reactivation program ^ Close the door. ^ Open the water faucets. ^ Select the REACTVATON program. The program will run automatically. Once the program has finished: ^ Turn the machine off. ^ Carefully unscrew the salt container, making sure any water pressure still remaining can depressurize. Do not use force! f the container will not come off manually please contact the Miele Service Department. ^ Replace the plastic cap. ^ Select the COLD WASH program and start it to remove any salt traces from the water softener and wash cabinet. ^ Push the mobile unit back into the cabinet. ^ Turn the water faucets off. ^ Empty the salt container. Do not empty it into the wash cabinet. ^ Rinse the salt container and filter insert under running water. The water pressure (flow pressure) must be at least 21 psi (15 kpa). f it is below that or if it fluctuates, the water softener will not work properly. After reactivation, salt remains may still be found in the salt container. To use up the salt remains and to rinse out the water softener, the REACTVATON program must be run again. 17

Automatic mobile unit recognition (AWK) n operating level C the AWK (optional) attributes a fixed program place to a mobile unit with valid coding. Program places 1-15 are reserved for the AWK automatic mobile unit recognition. The unit coding (on the mobile unit) and the program place with the corresponding program (in the "Profitronic" electronic control unit) must be matched up. ^ Each mobile unit must be coded before being used for the first time. See "Setting mobile unit coding". ^ The wash program through which the mobile unit is coded has to be assigned to the relevant program place (operating level D). See the Programming Manual "System functions - Selector switch organization".,mportant! Before starting the program with the "Start" button 6, check if the program needed for this mobile unit is displayed. nsufficient cleaning results may occur! Always check that programs for mobile units with AWK (on fixed program places) are not exchanged. Mobile unit coding The automatic mobile unit recognition feature assigns a program place to a mobile unit. The mobile units must be coded with a magnetic strip, via a bit combination. n operating level C the only program available for a coded mobile unit is the one assigned to the corresponding program place. After a coded mobile unit has been put in the machine and the door closed, the control unit selects the allocated program. ^ Press 6 to start the program. Coding is effected through 5 bits: Bit 1 to 4 define the mobile unit code, Bit 5 serves as a control (Parity-Bit). 18

Automatic mobile unit recognition (AWK) Mobile unit coding strip 15 different codes can be set. They are assigned to program places 1 to 15. The matching programs have to be put into the first 15 program places. See "System functions - Selector switch organization". Setting mobile unit coding To set or alter the coding of a mobile unit with automatic recognition (AWK) proceed as follows: Program location Bit 1 Bit 2 Bit 3 Bit 4 Bit 5 Parity- Bit ^ Unscrew the track with AWK (allen wrench) and remove from the retainer. The coded total must be an even number. f the summary totals an odd number, the message CHECK MOBLE UNT RECOGNTON appears. f the code equals, the message NO MOBLE UNT RECOGNTON shows. n both cases the program cannot be started. The mobile unit recognition must be re-set. ^ Remove the magnetic strip from the track. 19

Automatic mobile unit recognition (AWK) ^ Set the program place coding. ^ Place the track in the holder in the mobile unit and screw firmly in place. ^ Put the magnetic strip back in the track. mportant: The magnetic strip must be placed in the track so that the bit coding set according to the chart is visible through the round windows in the track. The magnet strip must have gray magnets. 2

Applications Drying air deflector A deflector is installed in front of the air outlet on the rear of the wash cabinet. Dismantle the deflector when baskets or inserts with a TA connector are used. The TA connector is connected to the air outlet of the wash cabinet. nserts Miele offers a wide variety of inserts for different applications, not all of which can be shown here. Please contact Miele for details of other inserts available. ^ Loosen both screws at the deflector. ^ Remove the deflector. 21

Applications Wash programs The ndustrial Cleaner is delivered without wash programs. When creating the programs please regard the water connection, holding / recycling tank connection, process chemicals and physical/chemical attributes and soiling of the items to be cleaned. For any question please contact Miele. Before starting the program check the following: Are the items to clean correctly sorted and inserted? Are the spray arms clean and can they rotate freely? s the filter combination free of coarse soiling (clean if necessary)? s the adapter to the water inlet respective the spray arms correctly connected? Are the storage containers filled with detergent and neutralizer? 22

Applications Spring adapter water connection Make sure that the spring adapter for water connection engages correctly when a basket or injector unit is inserted in the machine. t must be 3/16" (4-5 mm) higher than the water connection inlet in the machine. f this is not the case, adjust the adapter. Height adjustable top basket The upper basket can be adjusted above and below the middle position by 13/16" (2 cm). Depending on the combination of baskets and on the setting of the upper basket and use of an insert, items of the following height can be accommodated in the baskets: Example upper basket O 188/1 and lower basket U 874 without inserts: ^ Loosen the lock ring. ^ Push up the adapter (4-5 mm higher than the water connection inlet in the machine) and tighten up the lock ring. Upper basket position Upper basket height Upper max. 6 1/8" (15.5 cm) Middle max. 6 7/8" (17.5 cm) Lower max. 7 11/16" (19.5 cm) Lower basket height max. 11 1/4" (28.5 cm) max. 1 7/16" (26.5 cm) max. 9 7/16" (24 cm) On the right hand side the height in the upper basket is limited by the salt container connection. To adjust the upper basket: ^ Pull out the top basket, lift from the runners and remove. ^ Unscrew the knurled nuts (roller bearings) on both sides of the basket with a suitable spanner, reposition as required. 23

Applications Electronics Populated circuit boards and solder frames require cleaning that takes into account product specifications and the soldering processes used. Circuit boards Circuit boards can be cleaned of resin residues in the machine. The results depend on the type of flux used. For individual application, Miele recommends consultation with cleaning technology advisors. The cleaning is done by either adding tensides (,5 -,7 % at C, process 1 or 2, see "Description of the machine, Water recycling") or special cleaning agent (2% at 5 C, process 3, see "Description of the machine, Water recycling"). When reusing the rinse water or the special cleaning agent a holding / recycling tank is needed. The wash/rinse process consists of several stages and purified ion-free water is used throughout (D-water). For surface mount or hybrid technology, the use of water soluble soft solder paste is recommended. A high standard of cleaning can then be achieved by using water and variable temperature washes. The time for a cleaning program is approx. 3-4 minutes for the wash phase and 3-5 minutes for the drying phase, depending on the complexity and volume of the load. Baskets designed for circuit boards are made of plastic coated stainless steel. These are the O 5-1 top basket and U 5-1 bottom basket, which together can hold 73 PCBs. 24

Upper basket O 5 Lower basket U 5 Applications Large numbers of small circuit boards can be washed in inserts like E 42, E 43 with E 439. ^ Cover light weight, sensitive circuit boards, e.g. with cover nets or cover grids. 25

Applications Solder frames Depending on the soiling (adipic acid, resin) either one of the following is used: alkaline cleaning agent (,3 -,5% at 5-75 C, process 1 or 2, see "Description of the machine, Water recycling") or special cleaning agent (1-3% at 5-75 C, process 3, see "Description of the machine, Water recycling"). When reusing the rinse water or the special cleaning agent a holding / recycling tank is needed. Depending on the material of the solder frames an acid neutralizing agent (,1 -,2%) or rinse agent (,5 -,1%) can be dispensed. With aluminum solder frames, using de-ionized water (either throughout or in the final rinse, depending on quality standard required) reduces the risk of damage to the material, which may be adversely affected by non-purified water after prolonged use. Example: 8 solder frames (L / 16 "xw16 15 / 16 "xd1 3 / 4 " - 2") (L 475 mm x W 43 mm x D 45-5 mm) can be cleaned and dried in the machine within 3 minutes if operated with a hot water intake of 149 F (65 C). Sample configuration Lower basket U 874 with E 5 insert. nsert E 5 26

Applications Cleaning metal The machine can be used for cleaning products requiring degreasing, removal of dust or polishing/grinding paste, or pre-treatment before painting or galvanizing. The processes 1 and 2 (see "Description of the machine, Water recycling") is mostly used, when the items to be cleaned are lightly soiled (,5-1,% cleaning agent at 6-8 C). The process 3 (see "Description of the machine, Water recycling") is mostly used, when the items to be cleaned are heavily soiled (1.-3.% cleaning agent at 6-8 C). When reusing the rinse water or the special cleaning agent a holding / recycling tank is needed. Cleaning agents and wash parameters can be selected according to the properties of the iron, steel or non-ferrous metal. A test wash is advisable with polishing/grinding pastes to identify the most suitable cleaning processes. A final rinse with de-ionized water is often necessary, especially with non-ferrous metals, to achieve the cleaning result required.,make sure that no file dust or other fillings, (from drilling, milling etc), especially from iron based materials, are introduced into the machine. The upper basket O 188 and lower basket U 874 are recommended as a basic basket set for the machine or for small items the insert E 439 with four wash levels. To intake the different substrate, various filter bowls and inserts can be used. These filter bowls and inserts are inserted in the baskets O 188/U 874 or E

Applications Optics n the production of optical items the machine can be used for degreasing, removing dust or polishing/grinding paste, and giving a final rinse to clear the items of residues. The quality of the final rinse depends on the quality of the water. With polishing pastes it is advisable to investigate the suitability of the cleaning process for the type of glassware being cleaned. Process 1 and 2 (,5-1,% cleaning agent at 6-8 C) are mostly used to clean glass parts. See "Description of the machine, Water recycling". When reusing the rinse water a holding / recycling tank is needed. nsert E 118 Baskets and nserts The inserts E 42/43 may be used in the O 188/U 874 for small glass panels. For large glasses use E 118 and E 136 and for small glasses E 43 with the insert E

Applications Particle decontamination The R 62 offers exceptional cleaning results and is recommended for particle decontamination of chip boxes, wafer trays, drainers, fitting racks, computer components etc. Decontamination is accomplished with the addition of a minimal amount of a special cleaning agent in a purely aqueous system, without the addition of solvents. n these applications the cleaning process is carried out using de-ionized water throughout the wash-program. To clean chip boxes, wafer trays etc. process 1 is exclusively used. See "Description of the machine, Water recycling". 29

Adding liquid cleaning agents, use only cleaning agents specially designed for washers with aqueous methods and regard the application recommendations of the manufacturer! The machine is fitted with 2 dispensing pumps as standard: Dispensing system DOS 1 (blue) to dispense liquid alkaline agents. The dosing rate is 12 ml/min. Dispensing system DOS 3 (red) to dispense liquid (acid) media such as neutralizing agent or rinsing agent. The dosing rate is 15 ml/min. Additional DOS modules (optional) Dispensing system DOS 2 (white) dispenses acid media such as neutralizing agent. The dosing rate is 15 ml/min.
