3 INTRODUCTION Welcome! Congratulations on your purchase of the IMS, LLC CMU701 Chemical Makedown Unit. This unit is designed and engineered for reliability, long life and outstanding performance. The CMU701 makes down (or mixes) a dry chemical into various concentrations by its introduction into a rotating column of water. This unit has innovative designs that allow for easy disassembling, cleaning and effortless operation. The CMU701 was designed for DuPont s RelyOn MDC, Virkon S and Virkon Aquatic broad spectrum disinfectants, dispensed directly from the manufacturer s supplied packaging. SPECIFICATIONS 1. Power Requirements 110 Volts/60 Hertz AC Power 2. Potable Water Supply 35 psi minimum, 100 psi maximum, Do not exceed! 3. Capacity 1.5 or 5 gallons/min OPERATIONAL OVERVIEW After initial mounting and calibration, IMS supplied canister containing the bagged chemical is attached to the CMU701 s hopper and rotated 180 up to the feed position. During operation the dry chemical is moved from the container/hopper via an auger to the mixing unit where it is dissolved in a vortex and discharged at 1 of several preset concentrations. Chemical dispensing and water flow are precisely controlled, assuring reliable and repeatable operation. 3

4 OPERATION GUIDE INITIAL SETUP 1. Unit must be securely mounted on a solid surface in a level position. (ie. wall, countertop) 2. Water supply is attached to inlet connection (see Figure 1) from a potable source of 35 to 100 psi. Check thoroughly for leaks and ensure filter screen is in place! 3. Power supply is connected to unit (with supplied cord) from a 115 Volt 60 Hz AC grounded receptacle. Unit is now energized. (see Figure 2) 4. On site water flow calibration. (see page 6) 5. IMS supplied canister is loaded (see Figure 5f) and attached to the Hopper. (see Figure 1) 6. Select concentration on dial, and by depressing yellow (start) button (see Figure 1) to dispense desired concentration. Note: Complete operation guide is included in this Owner s Manual. 4

5 OPERATION GUIDE MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CMU701 The CMU701 can be mounted to any solid surface by means of either two 3/8 wall lags or four 3/8 bolts for countertop model. Select desired height of unit and drill two holes on level 16 centers. Use two 3/8 anchors (customer supplied) partially inserted, hang unit using keyhole slots (see Figure 1) then tighten bolts to secure unit. Do not remove double sided tape. For countertop models, drill four corresponding holes through surface. Use four 3/8 bolts (customer supplied) to anchor unit to countertop. Be sure that adequate space exists around the unit to allow attachment of canister and access for containers to be filled. 5

6 OPERATION GUIDE ON-SITE CALIBRATION OF WATER FLOW After secure mounting of the CMU701 has been completed, the unit requires calibration of water flow to mixing unit. A rate of 100 (For 701) 315 (For 705) milliliters per second is necessary for proper operation. A potable supply of water between 35 and 100 psi is required. If supply is below 35 or above 100 psi, additional equipment is required and is available for purchase from the manufacturer. Calibration requires a 2000 milliliter beaker and stopwatch (supplied). Two personnel are required for this operation (one for simultaneous activation of the unit and stop watch, the other to collect water discharged). To calibrate, close meter valve (see Figure 1) by rotating knob counterclockwise, do not over tighten! With container in place, turn chemical control dial to 000 then depress yellow (start) button and hold (see Figure 1). Slowly open meter valve to purge air from the system. Once all air is removed (approximately seconds) and a smooth continuous flow is achieved, release button. If container is filled, empty and restart. Now unit is ready for calibration. Place 2000 milliliter container under discharge nozzle (see Figure 1) and activate stopwatch and unit (start button) simultaneously. Hold button for 20 seconds (For 701) and 6 seconds (For 705) and read amount of water dispensed into container. If amount in container is not equal to 2000 milliliters (over or under), adjust meter valve accordingly to increase or decrease flow and repeat process until 2000 milliliters is achieved. 6

14 OPERATION GUIDE ATTACHING THE CANISTER GUIDE STEPS (See Figure 3a, 3b, 3c): 1. Rotate the hopper to the downward position. ORIGINAL POSITION ROTATED POSITION FIGURE 3a 2. Remove lid from DuPont product container, pull plastic bag with chemical out, prepare bag for insertion into IMS canister (see Figure 5f), once bag is inserted, remove zip tie and open. Gently pull the slack out of the bag and pull excess bag down around outside of the canister. 14

15 3. Insert spring loop (supplied) into canister by applying pressure equally on both sides until loop snaps into place under lip inside of canister. ROTATED POSITION CHEMICAL CANISTER IN ATTACHED POSITION FIGURE 3b 4. Lift the canister up to match the hopper ring and press firmly until canister is partially started on hopper (no open gaps). 15

16 5. Holding the canister firmly in place, rotate the hopper up. This will put the canister in the upside down (feed) position. Tap canister until fully locked on hopper. 17 OPERATION GUIDE CHEMICAL SYSTEM CHARGING 1. Select 3 % solution on dose dial. 2. With a container in place under the discharge nozzle, activate unit by pushing start button. 3. Run unit for 20 seconds (stop watch not necessary) to fill auger with chemical. 4. Dispose of solution properly. 5. The CMU701 is now ready for use NOTE: After charging, if system is to be left inoperative in excess of 48 hours, remove discharge nozzle and cyclonic mixer only, and affix orange cap to auger tube. This ensures airtight condition of chemical. 17

18 OPERATION GUIDE SELECTING A CONCENTRATION The CMU (701 Only) has been designed to provide 4 separate concentrations from a single unit by changing the dose selection dial. (See Figure 4) CMU 705 is preset chemical flow is not adjustable. 19 Dial setting of % solution Once the appropriate dose is selected on the dial, place container to be filled under the discharge point of the unit. Holding the container in place, press the start button (See Figure 4) and hold it until the container is filled to the desired level, at which point simply release the button. Any amount dispensed corresponds to the concentration selected on the dose dial. Depending on the purpose for usage of the final product, the following concentrations are suggested. Concentrations and suggested usages ½ % solution Window Cleaning 1% solution General Disinfecting 2% solution Heavy Duty Surface Disinfecting 3% solution Bodily Fluids (blood, mucus, etc) 19

20 OPERATION GUIDE DISASSEMBLING AND CLEANING OF CMU701/ 705 The CMU701 will need periodic cleaning before use and when a new canister is attached to insure proper function. Personal protective equipment is required when dry chemical exposure exists, i.e. approved gloves, eye protection and facemask must be worn at all times during disassembling process. The steps are provided below (See Figures 5a through 5e): 1. UNPLUG AND DISCONNECT POWER SUPPLY. 2. Open front top hinged access cover by turning thumb screw. (see Figure 5b) 3. Visually inspect open end of auger tube in center of mixer, checking for build up of dry chemical. 4. With cleaning brush (supplied) run DRY brush down through center of mixer, removing any build up. 5. Close access cover and secure it with thumb screw 6. Unit is now again ready for use. 20

21 OPERATION GUIDE DISASSEMBLING AND CLEANING OF CMU701/ 705 CANISTER REPLACEMENT When the canister runs empty, there is a distinct color change from yellow to clear. When this occurs, dispose of solution and replace canister by reversing the instructions described in OPERATIONS GUIDE ATTACHING THE CANISTER. If your CMU701 model is for Virkon Aquatic, it has been supplied with a low chemical shut off switch. This allows the unit to shutoff automatically once the canister is empty or chemical flow is lost. 1. UNPLUG AND DISCONNECT POWER SUPPLY. 2. When canister is in down position (see Figure 5a), pull up on the removal cam to push the canister off the hopper. 3. Open front top access cover. (see Figure 5b) 4. Rotate empty hopper up. 5. Remove discharge nozzle by pulling down with a rotating motion. (see Figure 5d) 6. Remove Cyclonic Mixer by pulling forward. 7. Push hopper assembly forward rotating back and forth slightly. 8. Continue pushing hopper forward until it clears the hopper support. (see Figure 5d) 9. Lift entire assembly out of frame and remove hopper/auger assembly from the mixer by pulling them apart. (see Figure 5e) 21

22 10. Set mixer outside of frame. (Supply hose does not need to be removed.) 11. With hopper assembly over a trash can, remove auger. 12. Clean mixer, auger and tube with brush provided removing all build up. 13. With dry cloth, wipe out any build up inside of hopper. 14. USE NO WATER! 15. ENSURING ALL COMPONENTS ARE COMPLETELY DRY, reassemble unit. NOTE: When reinserting hopper assembly, close attention must be paid to proper alignment of the auger drive slot to the motor shaft. If auger protrudes from end of tube, rotate auger while applying slight pressure toward motor until it engages completely.
