2 2 I HHCompact air handling units HHCompact Facts that speak for themselves! The HHCompact air handling units are standardised models with heat reclaim, with or without integrated control. They can also be supplied with a supply or extract air section. The units use only high-quality components, such as various heat reclaim systems, filters, cooling and heating heat exchangers, silencers and of course various fan types. The HHCompact air handling units set new standards for applications, too. They are a reliable choice for office buildings and health care institutions, but meet the high requirements for school and sports buildings and industrial applications, as well. With the addition of an extra F9 filter the HHCompact is also ideal as a preventilation section for clean room applications. The HHCompact stands for quality, long operating life, low maintenance and energy costs all specific aspects that are a must for Systemair. Another important HHCompact feature is the user-friendly design with extensive control options and easy-to-install filters. In short, the HHCompact is at home in many different markets!

4 4 I HHCompact air handling units Selection tables Efficiency to meet future requirements As the name says HHCompact air handling units are very compact, with high-efficiency heat reclaim and available with integrated controls. The units can be supplied with AC motors (increased external pressure and improved fan efficiency) or DC motors (reduced energy consumption and reduced sound level). The sensors, actuators, controls etc. are assembled in our factory, configured with your required setpoint and comprehensively tested for fast and problemfree commissioning. Heat reclaim using: a counter-flow plate heat exchanger, HHCompact C a heat recovery wheel, HHCompact a cross-flow plate heat exchanger, HHCompact P The HHCompact C is available in three models (see table 1), the HHCompact is available in up to nine models (see table 1), and the HHCompact P is available in seven models (see table 2). The modular design allows the HHCompact to be supplied with air filters, pre-heater and reheater, cooler, changeover cooler/heater combination and recirculation. The units are suitable for indoor and outdoor locations and offer air flow ranges from 500 m 3 /h to m 3 /h. Systemair reference: Exhibition Centre - Utrecht, The Netherlands Systemair supplied a HHCompact air handling unit for the entrance hall of the exhibition centre in Utrecht. The AHU includes a cross-flow heat exchanger with bypass and recirculation damper. The damper ensures faster heating of the entrance hall. The air handling unit is also complete with a changeover coil to limit unit dimensions and ensure heating and cooling.

7 Systemair reference: Strijp-S - Eindhoven, Netherlands In Eindhoven two old Philips factory buildings (the Anton and the Gerard building, named after the founders of Philips) were completely renovated and converted into appartment complexes. Systemair supplied 28 HHCompact air handling units for the two buildings. Eight of these include a high-efficiency counter-flow heat exchanger and the others have a cross-flow heat exchanger. Exceptionally Systemair also handled the internal transport and assembly on-site, using ready-to-assemble delivery and installation. The units could not be installed in one piece, as access to the plant rooms was restricted. With a tight schedule a Systemair project leader was always on-hand during the work to guarantee smooth and timely progress. Copyright Strijp-S
8 8 I HHCompact air handling units HHCompact Air flow range m 3 /h The HHCompact is a dual-flow air handling unit, equipped with a high-efficiency air-to-air heat reclaim and a control system for a plug-and-play installation. The unit is especially designed to ensure economical extraction of indoor air and taking in fresh air to meet current and future requirements for energy-efficient buildings. The HHCompact units are available in three versions: high-efficiency C units with counter-flow plate heat exchanger. high-efficiency units with heat recovery wheel. standard-efficiency P units with cross-flow plate heat exchanger. Energy savings The heat exchanger reclaims up to 90% of the heat from the extract air and transfers it to the supply air, considerably reducing the thermal load on the heating and air conditioning equipment. Another feature is the very efficient plug fan for extract and supply air. The direct-drive fans do not suffer any belt and pulley drive losses. They are more energy-efficient and require less maintenance. The extract and supply air fan speed is independently controlled by frequency converters. The control system permanently adjusts the fan speed based on the supply duct pressure or on a CO 2 rate sensor to take in the correct outdoor air quantity required in the building and to minimise power consumption. If the outside air temperature is below the room temperature during the night for example in summer - the HHCompact automatically switches to the free-cooling mode to ensure pre-cooling of the building and limit the cooling requirements during the day. Quick and easy plug-and-play installation Units are supplied as a single piece for fast installation (except units longer than 3.2 m and wider than 1.8 m).
9 HHCompact air handling units I 9 To facilitate handling in restricted locations the longer units can easily be divided into two sections on site, using assembly flanges and quick power connectors. The heating and cooling coil options are integrated in the unit. The controller, the sensors and the actuators are factoryinstalled and tested for fast and trouble-free start-up. Complete design flexibility The units can be installed inside or outside the building. The air handling units for outdoor installation are equipped with a watertight roof and as an option with a rain hood at the air entering and leaving openings. The fresh air supply duct connection can be either on the upper or lower part of the unit (except HHCompact C). Access to the maintenance doors can be selected on the right- or left-hand side. Quality of unit casing The casing consists of a rigid 62 mm high base frame that supports a peripheral vertical frame and double-skin panels. The frame uses a galvanised steel hollow closed profile that ensures the thermal bridging factor and good hygiene. The profile is assembled with ABS corner pieces to guarantee complete air tightness. The double-skin galvanised sheet metal panels with 60 mm rock wool insulation limit heat losses. All panels are fixed from the outside for easy maintenance. Light grey paint finish (AL 7035) is used as standard for outdoor units and as an option for indoor units. 10 10 I HHCompact air handling units Enhanced comfort options Air quality The unit is equipped with slide-in filters with filtration efficiency F7. Some models can include an optional G4 pre-filter. With plug-and-play control a pressure differential switch signals when the filters need to be replaced. To facilitate maintenance operations identical filters are used for supply air and extract air. Smooth walls and base allow efficient cleaning of the casing. As an option, the inspection door located between the cooling and heating coils further facilitates cleaning. Outdoor air pre-heating coil (option) At very low outdoor air temperatures the optional hot water or electric pre-heating coil prevents ice formation on the air-to-air heat exchanger and permits using the full 100% capacity. Use of the pre-heating coil is recommended below -15 C for HHCompact units, -10 C for HHCompact P units and -5 C for HHCompact C units. A pressure differential switch signals when the coil must be activated. The electric heater coil is controlled by an electronic relay that continuously varies the heating capacity from 0 to 100%. Air treatment module (option) The hot-water or electric reheating coil stabilises the supply temperature in winter whatever the outdoor conditions. If required, the hot-water coil is equipped with a frost protection thermostat. It is available in two versions: chilled-water coil only and chilled/hot-water changeover coil for use with a reversible heat pump. The cooling coil can also be supplied as a DX coil and as a changeover coil for both cooling and heating. A water/glycol mixture can also be used for frost protection. Control The air handling units are equipped with an integrated control box that contains the electrical and control components. The control panel combines intelligent control and easy operation. The controller constantly monitors all operating parameters and precisely manages heat reclaim, fan speed and opening of the coil control valves to optimise energy efficiency. 11 HHCompact air handling units I 11 Energy management The internal clock (7-day time scheduling) manages the occupied/unoccupied modes. In the unoccupied mode the user has the possibility to restart the unit for a predefined time period. A second time schedule is available to control the operation of the fans at low speed. The control intelligently manages night-time free-cooling operation. If the temperature conditions are favourable for free cooling of the building, the system is activated. AHU control offers several air flow control possibilities: constant air flow, operation at low/high speed (time schedule or closing of a contact by the user), constant pressure in the extract air duct (requires installation of a pressure sensor in the duct) or demand ventilation based on the CO 2 concentration (requires installation of an air quality sensor in the room). To avoid pressure variations in the building, the extract air flow is controlled as a percentage of the supply air flow. The supply air temperature is controlled by a PID loop based on the extract air temperature or the room temperature (requires installation of a temperature sensor in the building). Setpoint reset, based on the outdoor a temperature, reduces energy consumption (requires installation of a temperature sensor outside). The AHU control uses a 0-10 V signal to control the preheating, reheating and cooling coil control valves (supplied by the customer) as well as the water circulation pumps (supplied by the customer). Safety functions If an abnormally high or low indoor temperature is detected during an unoccupied period, the unit restarts to protect the building against these unwanted temperatures (if the indoor temperature sensor is installed). The control panel manages all unit safety devices and reduces the shut-down risk if there is a problem, for example filter contamination (replacement), low extract temperature, risk of coil freezing, overheating of electric heaters, ice formation on the heat reclaim unit, measured by differential pressure sensor and fan overload. 12 12 I HHCompact air handling units Enhanced comfort options Small errors do not switch off the unit and signal that maintenance intervention is urgently needed. The user has access to the list of active alarms and a detailed history of all incidents. emote operation A communication port allows use of the unit in a network, together with other products. The control unit includes Modbus (S485) and BacNet (IP) as standard. A terminal block for remote unit control is also available: Occupied/unoccupied modes. Building fire safety: opening this contact results in the total shut-down of the unit or the shut-down of the supply air fan only or the extract air fan only (configuration at commissioning). Low/high-speed operation: closing this contact results in operation of the fans at low speed (speed configurable at commissioning). Signalling of a minor fault (possible lock-out). Signalling of a major fault (possible shut-down). Ease-of-use The unit controller includes a web server as standard to allow access to the configuration and operating parameters via user-friendly internet navigation software. Icons accompanied by clear text messages intuitively guide the user. The system offers several consultation or parameter modification levels with password-protected access. The control panel and the backlighted user interface are equipped with a control potentiometer to guarantee legibility in all lighting conditions. The information is clearly displayed. Navigation is via menus, similar to those of a web server. The interface can be installed in the unit control box or remotely up to 100 m away. If the units are connected in a network by a communication bus, a single interface can be used for the complete system. Electric heater Cooler

The units ensure the highest hygiene and sustainability levels. Two European standards were formulated to describe the properties of the wall construction and performance of the unit, components and sections: EN1886 Air handling units - Mechanical performance EN13053 Air handling units - atings and performance for units, components and sections The HHCompact series is Eurovent-certified for classifications and performances in accordance with European standard EN1886. Eurovent certification was created to reinforce customer confidence. All mechanical characteristics and performances are rated and checked regularly against very specific criteria, procedures and test standards. Deviations from the given values are not acceptable. Strict regulations and control by the Eurovent Certification Institute guarantees design performance and power consumption reliability, and these designs have Energy Labelling. 17 Systemair reference: MFK Het Palet - Meppel, The Netherlands MFK Het Palet includes two primary schools (OBS Sprinkels and CBS Het Kompas), a playgroup, day care unit, sports hall and various social care services. For this complex with a wide application range Systemair supplied 10 air handling units, including controls - connected to a BacNet Building Management System. The unit for the sports hall uses a plate heat exchanger and the other nine a heat recovery wheel. The heat reclaimed in this way significantly reduces the energy consumption needed to heat the building. These models can be supplied as extract air units, supply air units or combined extract and supply air units. They offer the following functions: Mixing box with optional class 3 damper. Frost protection coil (hot water or electrical). Filter (G4, F7 or combined G4/F7). Additional damper (installed after the filter for reduced smoke development in case of fire). Heater (hot water or electrical). Cooler (chilled water or DX coil). Twin coil for heat reclaim with fully split air flows. Inspection sections between heater and cooler. Fan section (centrifugal fan forward curved, backward curved or plug fans). F9 final filter for hospital and clean room applications. The units are also offered for indoor and outdoor installation.
