An intelligent choice When on a cold winters night the warm glowing flames of the KALDUS boiler are there to welcome you back home, you will be pleased that you decided to install such an old fashioned and, at the same time, such a modern heating source. So modern that you can control boiler operation via a simple SMS text message sent from your mobile phone. Modern, because it enables up to 28 hours of autonomous boiler operation thanks to the capacious fuel storage container and to the electronic heating controller who, by modulating the flame on the basis of the desired room temperature, is able to economize on fuel consumption. Complete and functional The Unical KALDUS range of pellet fired boilers have been designed to be installed in your home, with a clear view of the fire through a self-cleaning ceramic glass panel. The KALDUS boiler has been conceived to be connected to your home s heating system. It is called HYDROUNIT because it is a hot water boiler which incorporates all the components normally present in a boiler room (C.H. circulating pump, expansion vessel - only for KALDUS 27- control devices and control panel). Boiler operation is completely automatic, which means that the consumer only needs to set the desired room temperature and feed the boiler. Pellet It is a special fuel which offers important advantages: Economical (about 30% more, if compared to fossil originated fuels) Easy to use (available in convenient 15 kg sacks) High output range (4,756 5,800 kw/kg) Highly ecological (recuperates byproducts of the wood industry) Autonomous operation and money saving KALDUS is fed by a hopper with about a 30 kg storage capacity for the 15 kw model and a 60 kg storage capacity for the 27 kw model. Inside the hopper a feeding screw conveys the pellets to the combustion chamber, dosing the right quantity of pellets on the basis of the desired room temperature and of other parameters which, via the electronic control system, increases fuel saving with high seasonal efficiencies. therefore needs more ventilation. In order to be able to adapt the KALDUS boiler to the different variety of pellets and to diverse types of installations, you will be able to select four numbered programmes from the user s programming menu, in a rising order from 1 to 4. As the identifying code of each programme increases this corresponds to an increase in the ventilation system. For example, programme n 1 is suitable for the lighter coloured pellet, with an ideal draught of the flue chimney, whilst programme n 4 is the exact opposite: dark coloured pellet and the need for an elevated ventilation in the flue chimney. There is also the possibility of changing the pre-set programmes, optimizing the boiler s operation and thereby adapting, with precision, the fuel consumption on the basis of the heating request and of the type of fuel employed. KALDUS 27 Infact KALDUS, thanks to the possibility of flame modulation, can be said to have an economical impact on the cold seasons. A special programme for each type of pellet An exclusive feature of the range of KALDUS boilers is the ability to adapt boiler operation on the basis of the type of fuel employed. In particular, the lighter coloured pellet has a lower ignition point, it burns quickly and generally leaves behind thin ashes which could absorb moisture from the air and compact themselves creating, if not removed, problems during the subsequent ignition. 5 small and powerful The KALDUS 15 boiler is built in 5 mm thick carbon steel plates, with a vertical water pipe heat exchanger. Pellet storage container KALDUS 15 - CROSS SECTION VIEW Upper inspection The burner is composed of a spheroidal cast iron crucible with a AISI 404 stainless steel grate, where the flames develop. Boiler operation is simple and completely controlled by an electronic system which, automatically, doses the quantity of fuel, on the basis of the parameters preset by the user, amongst which are the boiler s water temperature and the room temperature, which can be considered the leading parameter. This electronic modulating system contributes to obtaining high efficiencies and consequently, to the reduction of pellet consumption, independently from other external factors. The boiler also has an efficient system for recovering heat normally lost into the atmosphere via the flue gases, thereby increasing the system s efficiency. A lot of attention has been paid to facilitate routine cleaning of the KALDUS boiler. 7 Generous heat As for the KALDUS 15 boiler, the quality of the material used to build the KALDUS 27 model: spheroidal cast iron, stainless steel, and 5 mm thick steel plates, as well the design of the combustion passage (double controlled combustion and heat recovery), ensures high quality performances. Pellet storage container Upper inspection KALDUS 27 - CROSS SECTION VIEW Cleaning mechanism KALDUS 27, the model with the highest output, mainly differs itself from the type of heat exchange circuit employed. Infact, taking into account the high output, it is made up of smoke pipes instead of water pipes in order to facilitate combustion. Therefore, the hot gasses generated in the reversed U passage combustion chamber pass through all the heat exchanger and terminate in a collection chamber. The smoke pipes are fitted with springs which have the dual function of acting as turbulators and also cleaning rods when the boiler is not firing, via a practical vibrating mechanism. 8 Assembly and installation Total safety In order to guarantee the greatest possible safety conditions, the KALDUS 15 and 27 boilers are equipped with the following devices: Flue gas draught control pressure switch: it prevents boiler operation if there are any malfunctions in the flue circuit Flue gas temperature detection sensor: it controls the boiler s maximum efficiency via continuous control of the flue temperature Boiler water temperature sensor: it prevents the boiler exceeding the maximum temperature (85 C) Pellet hopper temperature detection thermostat: it shutdowns the boiler in case of overheating Safety valve: it protects the boiler and the heating system in case the pressure exceeds 2,5 bar Water pressure transducer: it protects the boiler if there is no water in the heating system. Where to install the boiler The KALDUS boilers are designed to be installed in any living room of the home as the combustion chamber is completely room sealed. Accessories (optional) A special kit for automatic DHW production is available for the KALDUS 27 model. It can be fitted onto the rear part of the boiler. It is made up of a high efficiency stainless steel plate heat exchanger and a priority pressure switch which can be connected to the boiler via pipe fittings. A safety valve prevents pipe bursts in case of excessive overpressure generated by surge tanks etc. A special electronic device enables the boiler to operate at the maximum output. Very high domestic hot water production (13 litres/min). The GSM control, made up of a dual band receiver with an antenna and electronic power supply, enables boiler ignition from a distance via your mobile phone. Once the SIM CARD (not supplied) has been programmed and the PIN code has been inserted, it will be possible to: fire, turn off and request boiler status. Easy to clean To ensure the maximum possible efficiency at all times, the KALDUS boiler carries out an automatic cleaning process when the flames in the crucible are dying out. It is also fitted with practical inspection and ash drawers, as well as an original smoke pipe cleaning system. The ashes and the soot collected can then be simply removed with a normal vacuum cleaner. The KALDUS boiler deliberately does not have any complex removable parts: inspection and controls have been simplified as much as possible.
