4 1.0 GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS ENERGY LIGHT USER S GUIDE Energy Light is a compact device which allows the control of the following types of air-conditioning units: air-air, air/water, water/water and motor-condensing, single-circuit, with 1 or 2 compressors (steps). 5 2.0 USER INTERFACE A C DISPLAY In normal operating conditions the temperature at the evaporator inlet (BT1) is displayed, in tenths of degrees Celsius, or the alarm code if at least one alarm is active. In the case of more than one active alarm, the first of these is displayed, according to table TAB 7.0. If thermoregulation is not analogue, and depends on the status of a digital input (ST1 or ST2, configured as digital inputs) the label On or Off is displayed, depending on status of the thermoregulator. In menu mode the display depends on the current position. Labels and codes are used to help the user identify the type of display set. 2.2 AIR-AIR MACHINES To simplify the user interface in the air-air versions, by setting parameter H53 = 1, the set point relating to the selected mode is normally displayed; pressing the UP and DOWN buttons on the remote keypad directly modifies the set point for the selected mode. 7 4.0 SELECTING THE OPERATING MODE FROM THE KEYPAD IF HEATING MODE IS ENABLED H28=1 Starting from Stand-by each pressing of the mode button sees the following sequence: STAND-BY COOOLING OPERATION HEATING OPERATION STAND-BY NOTES : - Once the operating mode has been changed, wait 2 seconds for the reversing valve to change status. - To switch from Cooling to Stand-by without the 4-way valve changing status, press the Mode button twice consecutively within 2 seconds. 8 5.0 SETTING THE SET POINT ENERGY LIGHT USER S GUIDE To access the unit regulation Set-point proceed as follows: (in normal operating conditions the display of the Energy Light electronic control always shows the temperature at the evaporator inlet probe BT1). Press both buttons together for less than 2 seconds to access the first level menu display. Press both buttons again to access the second level, which allows the Heating and Cooling Set Points to be modified. o Use the Scroll Up or Scroll Down buttons to modify the desired Set Point (Heating or Cooling) Press both buttons again for less than 2 seconds to access the third level, which shows the previously stored Set Point o Use the Scroll Up or Scroll Down buttons to set the new Set Point value. Press both buttons again for less than 2 seconds to save the changes and return to the display of the Set Point. Press both buttons again for more than 2 seconds to return to the main screen, going up one level at a time. Alternatively, performing no operation for 5 minutes, the electronic control automatically returns to the main screen. Release Jan Energy Light 8/67

9 6.0 SETTING THE USER PARAMETERS ENERGY LIGHT USER S GUIDE To access all the unit configuration parameters, the 1st configuration level must be accessed by pressing the MODE and ON-OFF buttons together Use the SCROLL UP button to move around the 1st level until reaching the label called PSS Press both the MODE and ON-OFF buttons together to access the 2nd configuration level. The display shows the numeric value 0 Use the SCROLL UP button to set the numeric value 47, corresponding to the user password. All unit configuration parameters can now be accessed. NOTE: ALL THE UNIT CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS CAN BE ACCESSED USING THE SAME METHOD FOR REACHING THE SETTING OF THE SET POINT AND THE USER PASSWORD, WITH REFERENCE TO THE FOLLOWING TABLE Release Jan Energy Light 9/67

13 * The asterisk alongside the code of some alarms in the above table means that the alarm reset can be configured via parameter. The user can decide to have manual reset, or define a number of alarms after which the alarm reset changes from automatic to manual. NOTE: The alarm signals are counted only if more than 225 seconds elapse between one signal and the next. 7.3 ALARM RESET To reset the manual reset alarms, once having eliminated the cause of the alarm, proceed as follows: PRESS JUST ONCE TO RESET ALL THE INACTIVE MANUAL RESET ALARMS; IN THE DISPLAY PHASE, ALL THE INTERVENTION TIME COUNTERS ARE ALSO RESET, EVEN IF THE CORRESPONDING SIGNALS ARE NOT ACTIVE 7.4 DESCRIPTION OF THE ALARMS The control is able to effect a complete diagnosis of the unit, signalling a series of alarms. The alarms which feature the event time counter can be changed from automatic to manual reset. The count of the event times occurs each 225 seconds. This means that if the number of event-times is set to 3, the time when the alarm changes from automatic to manual reset is between 2*225 seconds and 3*225 seconds. If the alarm is active more than once within a sampling period (225 seconds), this is counted just once. The manual reset alarms are reset by pressing and releasing the on-off button E00: Remote OFF The ON OFF digital input, if active, switches off all the utilities and the display shows E00. E01: High pressure alarm If input ID1 is active, the alarm is active. The alarm is always manual reset. E02: Low pressure alarm If input ID2 is active, the alarm is active. The alarm is automatic reset. If the number of alarm event times is equal to A02, it changes to manual reset. The alarm is not active for a period A01 from the start-up of the compressor or the reversal of the 4-way valve. In defrosting, if A24 = 0 the alarm is not active. E03: Compressor circuit breaker alarm If the input configured as the compressor circuit breaker input is active, the alarm is active. The alarm reset is automatic. If the number of event/times is equal to parameter A07 the alarm must be reset manually. The alarm diagnosis is not active for a period equal to parameter A08 from the start-up of the compressor. E04: Condenser fan circuit breaker If the input configured as the fan circuit breaker input is active, the alarm is active. The alarm reset is automatic. If the number of event/times is equal to parameter A09 the alarm must be reset manually. E05: Antifreeze alarm The alarm is active if parameter H06=1 (Probe ST2 configured as antifreeze probe). If the analogue input ST2 has a value less than A11 the alarm is active. It is deactivated if the temperature ST2 is greater than A11+ A12. The alarm is automatic reset. If the number of event times of the alarm is equal to A13 it changes to manual reset. The antifreeze alarm is not active for a period A10 from switching on in Heating mode. The above is valid only if the alarm is detected with the unit off. E06: Probe ST2 alarm The alarm is active if a probe, configured as an analogue input, is short-circuited or interrupted. The alarm is also active if the upper limit (100 C) or the lower limit (-50 C) of the probes is exceeded. E07: Probe ST3 alarm The alarm is active if a probe, configured as an analogue input, is short-circuited or interrupted. The alarm is also active if the upper limit (100 C) or the lower limit (-50 C) of the probes is exceeded. E11: High pressure/high temperature alarm The alarm is active if at least one probe is configured as a probe for condensation control. Release Jan Energy Light 13/67

14 If the condensation probe has a value greater than A14 the alarm is active. It is deactivated if the temperature/pressure is less than A14 - A15. The alarm is always manually reset. E12: Low pressure/low temperature alarm The alarm is active if at least one probe is configured as a probe for condensation control. If the condensation probe has a value lower than A17 the alarm is active. It is deactivated if the temperature/pressure is greater than A17 + A18. If the number of event/times of the alarm is equal to A19, it changes to manual reset. The alarm is not active for a period A16 from the start-up of the compressor or the reversal of the 4-way valve. E13: Compressor 2 circuit breaker alarm If the input (configured as compressor 2 circuit breaker) is active, the alarm signal is activated. The alarm reset is automatic. If the number of event/times is equal to parameter A08 the alarm must be reset manually. E40: Probe ST1 alarm The alarm is active if a probe, configured as an analogue input, is short-circuited or interrupted. The alarm is also active if the upper limit (100 C) or the lower limit (-50 C) of the probes is exceeded E41: Flow-switch alarm If the input configured as the flow-switch input is active for a period equal to A04, the alarm is activated. The alarm reset is automatic. If the number of event/times of the alarm is equal to parameter A06 the alarm must be reset manually. The alarm diagnosis is not active for a period equal to parameter A03 from the start-up of the pump. E43: Secondary antifreeze alarm The alarm diagnosis is active if H07=4 (Probe ST3 configured as antifreeze probe for automatic reverse water/water units). If the analogue input ST3 has a value lower than A11 the alarm is active. It is deactivated if the temperature ST2 is greater than A11+ A12. The alarm is automatic reset. If the number of event times of the alarm is equal to A13 it changes to manual reset. The alarm is not active for a period A10 from switching on using the ON-OFF button or from entering heating mode, or from the ON-OFF digital input. E42: Probe ST4 alarm The alarm is active if a probe, configured as an analogue input, is short-circuited or interrupted. The alarm is also active if the upper limit (100 C) or the lower limit (-50 C) of the probes is exceeded. E44: Unit discharged alarm In all operating modes, except for operation with the boiler active and defrosting on, the unit is checked for any leaks in the gas circuit or faults in the reversing valve in heat pump operation. The regulator is active if A23=1. The unit discharged alarm is always manual reset. In Heating if ST2-ST1(or ST3)<A20 or in Cooling if ST1(or ST3)-ST2<A20 for a continuous period greater than A21 the alarm is activated. The count of the time is reset on each change of mode and when the compressor is off, and is not active for the period of parameter A22 from the start-up of the compressor. E45: Configuration error In the case where ST1 is configured as a heating request digital input and ST2 as cooling request, the alarm is active when both the inputs are active. E46: Over-temperature alarm This is active if the temperature value ST1 remains above A25 for a continuous period equal to A26. In this way, the high temperature/pressure conditions are signalled without blocking the unit. These conditions do not involve the intervention of the pressure switch, and can thus cause accelerated wear or damage to the unit. Release Jan Energy Light 14/67

15 8.0 COMPRESSOR AND PUMP OPERATING HOUR COUNTER The device stores in non-volatile memory the operating hours of the pump and the compressor. The internal resolution is in minutes. In the case of power failures the last fraction of time recorded is set to zero. The display is accessed via the corresponding menu. For values below 999 hours the entire value is displayed, while higher values are displayed as hours/100 with the HEAT LED on. The hours are set to zero by pressing the DOWN button for 2 seconds while the operating hours are shown. 9.0 ANALOGUE INPUTS There are 4 analogue inputs: 3 NTC-type transducers, 1 transducer configurable as NTC or 4-20mA. The probes ST1-ST4 can be configured according to the following table Par. 16 10.0 DIGITAL INPUTS There are 5 not-live digital inputs plus ST1, ST2 and ST4, if these are configured as digital inputs. The polarity of the inputs is defined by 8 parameters, 5 for the digital inputs and 3 for the analogue inputs if defined as digital. The above-mentioned model can not be used to control the condensation fan directly using the OUT-TC power output, in that a small triac is used (max 500mA) without snubber filter. This type of output can however be used to control an external relay with 230Vac coil for the ON/OFF control of the fan, or using the 12DC TK output, to command the optional phasecutting boards for proportional control of the fan rotation speed. The optional output has the following characteristics, according to the configuration of parameter H25 Par. 18 12.0 PARAMETER PROGRAMMING KEY The same connector used for the serial connection can also be used to connect a key for reading or writing parameter maps. Turning the instrument on with the programming key inserted, the new parameter map is copied to the internal memory. The reverse operation can be effected by entering the password COPYING THE UNIT EPROM TO THE KEY To access the key password, enter the 1st configuration level by pressing the MODE and ON-OFF buttons together Use the SCROLL UP button to move around the 1st level until reaching the label PSS Press the MODE and ON-OFF buttons together to enter the 2nd configuration level. The display shows the numeric value 0 Use the SCROLL UP button to set the numeric value 147. At this point all the parameters written in the unit are copied to the key COPYING THE KEY TO THE UNIT EPROM To copy the key to the unit EPROM, simply insert the key using the corresponding connector, and turn the instrument on. 19 13.0 CONFIGURING THE OPERATING MODE The control has 4 operating states: Cooling, Heating, stand-by, off The selection of the mode depends on both the setting of the keypad, and parameters H27 (operating mode selection), H05 (configuration ST1), H06 (configuration ST2), H28 (heat pump presence). 20 14.0 COMPRESSORS The compressors (or capacity-control states) are subject to calls based on the thermodynamic conditions of the system. They are switched (on/off) according to the following conditions. Compressor 1 is off if: the compressor blocking alarm is active (TAB 7.0) safety timing operations are in progress timing is in progress between pump on and compressor on there is a start-up delay between two compressors the units is in stand-by or OFF mode probe ST1 configuration parameter = 0 (probe absent) pre-ventilation is active in cooling mode The second compressor (or capacity-control) is available only if: H28 = 2 (two compressors per circuit) H23 = 2 (output RL2 is configured as compressor/capacity-control output) H25 = 0 (open collector output for second compressor/capacity-control) Compressor 2 is on or off according to limits similar to those of compressor 1. If the open collector output is used, an external relay must be used with the connections as described in the following figure. It is important to note that when using the second power step from the optional output, the board code C , which includes this feature, must be used, and that for proportional control of the fans the optional phase-cutting boards must be used. 21 14.1 COMPRESSOR TIMING A safety time interval must be respected between one switching-off and the next switching-on (compressor on-off safety time C01), which is also respected when the instrument is switched on. A safety time must also be respected between one switching-on and the next (compressor on-on safety time C02). 22 14.2 COMPRESSOR ON - OFF SEQUENCE The start-up of the compressors can be modified according to H50 (compressor start-up sequence): H50 = 0 the compressors are started according to the operating hours (balancing) H50 = 1 first compressor 1 is started, then compressor 2/capacity-control (fixed sequence). If H50 = 0, the compressor with the lower number of operating hours is switched on first, only if this compressor is not subject to: - An active compressor blocking alarm (Tab. 7.0) - Safety timing in progress If H50 = 0, the compressor with the greater number of operating hours is switched off first. If H50 = 1: - Compressor 2/capacity-control is started only if compressor 1 is already on. - Compressor 1 is shut-down only if compressor 2/capacity-control is already off. In the event of an alarm blocking compressor 1, compressor 2/capacity-control is immediately shut-down 14.3 COMPRESSOR IN COOLING MODE If probe ST2 is not configured as a digital input for cooling request (H06=2) or probe ST1 as a digital input for thermoregulator request (H05=3), the compressor is managed according to the temperature measured by probe ST1 and a setpoint which can be programmed from the keypad: ST1 = Temperature of inlet water or intake air. 25 16.0 CONDENSATION FAN This refers to the ventilation unit located outside on the heat exchanger which normally acts as a condenser. In the event of heat pump operation, this exchanger naturally acts an evaporator. The ventilation unit allows the following values to be set: minimum speed, maximum speed and silent speed (corresponding to low noise operation, for example, during the night), as well as a proportional band within these values. The fan is off if: an external fan blocking alarm is present (TAB. 7.0) in stand-by or off 16.1 FAN CONFIGURATION Type of output The fan output can be configured to operate in proportional or ON OFF mode. F01 = Triac output mode selection; 0 = Proportional fan output 1 = ON-OFF fan output; in this phase the fan is off if the output of the proportional regulator is equal to 0, otherwise it is on at maximum speed (no capacity-control) if the output of the regulator is greater than 0. 2 = Control of the external antifreeze heating elements, for water/water machines with automatic reversal (internal) 3 = Fan control for ON-OFF operation on compressor call. In this mode the fan is switched off and on according to status of the compressor The fan can also be controlled by the output associated to the optional board: H25 = Optional output configuration: 0 = Open collector output for second compressor 1 = Fan speed output, 4-20mA 2 = Fan speed output, 0-10V REAR SIDE Conn. PEAK On each start-up of the external fan, the fan on the heat exchanger is powered at the maximum voltage, thus at maximum speed, for a period equal to F02 in seconds; once this period has elapsed, the fan continues at the speed set by the regulator. F02 = Fan peak time (seconds) PHASE DISPLACEMENT Defines a delay used to compensate for the different electrical specifications of the fan drive motors: F03 = duration, as a percentage, of the fan phase displacement. 26 16.3 CONDENSATION CONTROL IN COOLING The condensation control depends on the condensation temperature or pressure. The control is active if: at least one probe is configured as a condensation probe (pressure or temperature) otherwise the fan operates in ON OFF mode, called by the compressor. The fan can be controlled independently from the compressor or called by the compressor F05= fan output mode 0: if the compressor is off the fan is off 1: condensation control is independent from the compressor The cut-off is bypassed for a period equal to F12 from the start-up of the compressor. During this period, if the regulator requests cut-off, the fan operates at minimum speed. The condensation control depends on the condensation temperature or pressure F06 = Minimum fan speed in COOLING; F07 = Maximum silent fan speed in COOLING F08 = Set minimum fan speed temperature/pressure in COOLING F09 = Fan prop. band in COOLING F10 = Fan cut-off differential F11 = Cut-off hysteresis F13 = Maximum fan speed in COOLING F14 = Set maximum fan speed temperature/pressure in COOLING 16.4 PRE-VENTILATION The fan effects a pre-ventilation function if both the following conditions are true: Cooling mode F05 = 0 (operation called by compressor) Pre-ventilation is effected before the compressor starts, for a period equal to F25 (pre-ventilation time in Cooling). 27 16.5 CONDENSATION CONTROL IN HEATING The control is not active if: a defrost cycle is in progress at least one probe is configured as a condensation probe (pressure or temperature), otherwise the fan operates in ON OFF mode, called by the compressor. On the start-up of the compressor, if the proportional regulator requests the cut-off of the fan, this cut-off can be excluded for a period equal to F12 from the start-up of the compressor. During this period, if the regulator requests cut-off the fan operates at minimum speed. The fan can be controlled independently from the compressor or called by the compressor. 30 18.0 CALIBRATING THE CONDENSATION FANS 1. After having configured the unit for operation with proportional fan output, set the fan parameters with the values indicated as follows, so that the fan rotation speed is equal to 50% of the maximum voltage, (the operating temperature during calibration must be greater than 2 C): F06 = 50 F07 = 50 F08 = 0 F13 = 50 F14 = Place a voltmeter set for 230VAC between terminals L1 and N, so as to determine the value of the line voltage, Vac 3. Move the voltmeter, still set for 230VAC, between terminals L1 and OUT-TC, so as to determine the voltage of the fan, Vv 4. At this stage, to determine the correct value of the fan phase displacement, change the setting of parameter F3 until the voltmeter shows a value equal to half the line voltage (Vv = ½Vac). This determines the value to be assigned to parameter F3 5. 31 19.0 REVERSING VALVE The reversing valve regards heat pump operation. It is active only if: relay 3 configuration parameter H23= 0. the heat pump is enabled (H28= 1). The reversing valve is off when the instrument is OFF or in stand-by. The polarity can be configured by parameter: H38= Reversing valve polarity 0=relay on in Cooling 1=relay on in Heating 19.1 REVERSING VALVE IN COOLING Always active REVERSING VALVE IN HEATING Not active, unless defrosting is active (see relative paragraph) 19.3 NOTES ON THE MANAGEMENT OF THE 4 WAY VALVE The units manufactured by Clivet are configured with the following operating logic: The reversing valve is ON in COOLING and OFF in HEATING During machine operation, the 4 way valve remains in its existing position, even when the unit is in one of the following conditions: OFF / REMOTE OFF / STAND-BY To switch from Cooling to Stand-by without the 4-way valve changing status, press the Mode button twice consecutively within 2 seconds Once the operating mode has been changed, wait 2 seconds for the reversing valve to change status In the case of blackouts, when power returns to the module, the operating mode prior to the blackout, as saved by the module, is automatically restarted REMOTE HEATING/COOLING SELECTION 1. If the Heat/Cool selection is to be remote controlled together with the ON/OFF control, analogue input ST4 must be used as a digital input. The following parameters must also be set correctly: H08 = 2 Configuration analogue input ST4 H21 = 3 Configuration input ST4 (if digital) H27 = 1 Operating mode selection 2. The external antifreeze heating element output is active only if probe ST3 is configured as an NTC antifreeze input for water/water machines with automatic reversal (internal) (H07= 4) output TK is configured as antifreeze heating element output for water/water machines with automatic reversal (F01 = 2) Regulation is effected on probe ST3 with a set-point set by parameter r12 and an hysteresis r11. The control is analogous to that of the internal heating elements 22.2 BOILER DEPENDENT ON EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE The boiler output has 2 different operating modes, integration or heating with boiler only. The boiler is off: in Cooling, Stand-by or OFF when alarms blocking the boiler are present (TAB 7.0) 22.3 BOILER IN INTEG RATION MODE The output is active if: relay 4 configuration parameter is 2 (H24 = 2 Boiler) the heat pump is configured as present (H28=1) ST4 is configured as an external probe (H08 = 3) The boiler is activated in Heating mode if the external temperature falls below the value of r13. In this case, the compressor and the fan remain off and the heating occurs using the boiler only. The heat pump is reactivated if the external temperature exceeds the value r14+r13. If the boiler is active, thermoregulation is effected using the boiler output; Regulation is analogous to that of the compressor in Heating BOILER IN HEATING MODE The output is active if relay 4 configuration parameter is 2 (H24 = 2 Boiler) the heat pump is configured as not present (H28=0) Thermoregulation in Heating mode is effected using the boiler output; regulation is analogous to that of the compressor in Heating.
