ELECTRIC DISHWASHERS ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARD IEC 60436: Electric dishwashers for household use Methods for measuring the performance Scope: This standard applies to electric dishwashers for household use that are supplied with cold water. Energy Consumption Test Program The program to be tested shall be the recommended by the manufacturer for a normally soiled load.
DISHWASHER Definition: Machine which cleans, rinses, and dries dishware, glassware, cutlery, and, in some case, cooking utensils by chemical, mechanical, thermal, and electric means. A dishwasher may/may not have a specific drying operation at the end of the program. Dishwasher Type q Compact Dishwasher: A dishwasher with a capacity of fewer than eight place settings and six serving pieces. q Standard Dishwasher: A dishwasher with a capacity of at least eight place settings and six serving pieces. Rated Dishwasher Capacity It is the whole number of place settings together with the serving pieces stated by the manufacturer, which can be cleaned and dried when loaded in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions
Ambient conditions Ambient temperature of the room: (20 ± 2) C Relative humidity: (55 ± 10) % RH Water supply Feed water temperature: (15 ± 2) C Water pressure: (240 ± 20) kpa test load Manufacturer s rated capacity Test programme: normally soiled load. Supply voltage 230 V ±2 % Supply frequency 50 Hz ±1 %

EUROPEAN ENERGY LABELING FOR DISHWASHERS Energy label for dishwashers only models belonging to energy efficiency class A and better can enter the market since December from December 2013, only dishwasher models with energy efficiency class A+ and better will be allowed to enter the EU market.
US ENERGY STAR AND ENERGY GUIDE LABEL ENERGY STAR Criteria for Residential Dishwashers Product Class Maximum Annual Energy Use Standard ( 8 place settings plus 6 serving pieces) Compact (<8 place settings plus 6 serving pieces) 280 kwh/year 222 kwh/year Maximum Per-Cycle Water Consumption 4 gallons/cycle 3.5 gallons/cycle 215 cycles/year q Compact Dishwasher: A dishwasher with a capacity of fewer than eight place settings and six serving pieces. q Standard Dishwasher: A dishwasher with a capacity of at least eight place settings and six serving pieces. The Energy Guide label estimates how much power is needed per year to run the appliance and to heat the water based on the yearly cost of natural gas and electric water heating. Test Method Reference 10 CFR 430, Subpart B, Appendix C
TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENT OPTIONS FOR DISHWASHERS Advanced Technology that reduce energy and water consumption and improve performance. Condenser drying After all washing and rinsing cycles are complete, the dishwasher heats the dishes with hot water from the final rinse. This water condenses on the dishwasher's cool stainless steel tub and drains away. At the same time, a built-in fan circulates air throughout the dishwasher's interior, speeding up the condensation process. More efficient jets Use less energy to spray detergent and water over the dishes when cleaning. Improved water filtration Removes food soils from the wash water allowing efficient use of detergent and water throughout the cycle. The final clean-water rinse assures your dishes come out sparkling. Innovative dish rack designs Maximize cleaning by strategically situating the dishes. Soil sensors Test how dirty dishes are throughout the wash and adjust the cycle to achieve optimum cleaning with minimum water and energy use. Improved fill control Improved motor efficiency Increased insulation
