Recommendation: Dense pack your walls with insulation to increase the R-value and reduce air leaks through your walls. Adding wall insulation can improve comfort, reduce energy use, and save money. Schedule an appointment with a contractor in the Quality Insulation Program to get a free estimate, and benefit from the high standards of this program. Refer to the handout provided by the home visit crew for more information. Cost is estimated at $2625 to $3150. ATTIC INSULATION AND AIR SEALING: Attic Insulation: You have insufficient Insulation in your attic. Air Sealing: Blower door test result: 2502 cfm50 at 2655 sq. ft. This is equivalent to having a 1.8 sq. ft. opening in your home. Recommendation: Air seal and insulate your attic. Proper sealing of air leaks and adding insulation can not only save you energy and money, but can help prevent ice dams and improve your home's durability as well. Schedule an appointment with a contractor in the Quality Insulation Program to get a free estimate, and benefit from the high standards of this program. Refer to the handout provided by the home visit crew for more information. Cost is estimated at $3650 to $4375. WINDOWS: There are 3 single-pane windows without a storm window in your home. Recommendation: Install a storm window on the exterior of single-pane windows to cost-effectively reduce your energy usage. Although generally not justified by the energy savings alone, you may also consider replacing single-paned windows with double-paned, high efficiency, ENERGY STAR rated windows. Recommendation: Add a controlled source of fresh air for your home by installing mechanical ventilation. Mechanical ventilation, such as a continuously running bath exhaust fan, can improve your indoor air quality by removing pollutants and reducing excess moisture, which can lead to durability issues for your home as well as health issues for its occupants. By achieving this certificate, your home will be certified as performing at its peak energy efficiency, with all improvements done to meet health and safety standards. It will also provide value at the time of sale for improvements you have made to your home, and assure a potential homebuyer that they are purchasing an energy-efficient home.
