8 Plumbing systems explained Before you choose your shower, you need to know which plumbing system you have and which Galaxy showers are compatible with it. Our handy guide details the types of plumbing systems available and the features of each so that you can identify which one you have in your home. Mains water Low Pressure Gravity System A gravity system consists of a cold water header tank installed in a loft space and a hot water cylinder installed in an airing cupboard. This type of system tends to supply smaller volumes of water, so we recommend that you install a pumped shower to boost the water flow. Mains water High Pressure Mains Fed System A mains fed unvented system consists of a boiler that heats a high pressure water cylinder that is typically installed in an airing cupboard. This hot water cylinder usually supplies high volumes of water. Mains water Mains water High Pressure Combination Boiler System A combination boiler system consists of a boiler that heats water on demand and does not include a cold water header tank or hot water cylinder. Cold Mains Your cold mains supply will connect to most electric showers and is ideal if you don t have access to enough stored hot water to heat your shower, or if you prefer not to use your stored hot water for showering. 8

Cold mains These showers are suitable for connection to a cold mains water supply. Low pressure These showers are suitable for connection to a low pressure gravity fed plumbing system. High pressure These showers are suitable for connection to a high pressure combination boiler system or a high pressure mains fed unvented system. TempSure This technology minimises temperature fluctuations by compensating for changes in water pressure, and a thermal cut-out stops the water heating if the temperature becomes too high. 14 Electric showers explained Instantaneous electric showers work through connection to a cold mains water supply. They pass this cold water over an internal heating element in the shower, delivering your chosen temperature. They do not need to use stored hot water and only heat water for as long as the shower lasts, so are a highly efficient choice. Pumped electric showers are ideal for use with gravity fed systems, and work by taking cold water from a cistern installed in a roof space. This cold water is then passed over an internal heating element in the same way as a non-pumped electric shower to provide a comfortable temperature and flow. The integrated pump ensures that the shower delivers high volumes of water in areas with low water pressure. 14
