2 Preamble THIS GUIDELINE REFERS TO HUMIDITY TRANSFERRING HEAT EXCHANGERS AND STANDARD HEAT EXCHANERS. PLEASE READ THIS GUIDELINE BEFORE DISINFECTION AND CLEANING CAREFULLY! THIS GUIDELINE IS MADE WITH CARE. NO FURTHER REMEDIES CAN BE ENTITLED. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE CHANGES FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVEMENT. 1 Safety indications by using sodium hypochlorite lotion 1% 1.1 General Attention by using sodium hypochlorite. An explosion can occur by using sodium hypochlorite together with other materials like reducer, amines, formic acid, methanol, organic substances and lots of further materials. Furthermore occuring vapours could damage mucosa by breathing in. It also reacts sometimes very violent with acids (e.g. hydrochloric acid, azotic acid) and oxidants (e.g. high test peroxide, permanganate) as well as under heat and release of chlorine gas and / or nitrous gases. Heating or sunlight could lead to damage of sodium hypochlorite which can release chlorine, hydrochloric acid, chloric oxide and oxygen. This must be considered during use or storage of the substance. 1.2 Safety appliances and actions It is suggested to wear safety clothes. Protect yourself against contact with your eyes and your skin. Gloves should be made of nature latex, chloroprene, nitrile rubber, viton or butyl rubber. An inhalation protection is not necessary. Actions to protect against fire and explosions: Normal measures for preventive fire protection. Follow the instructions on the label. Product is not combustible. Actions against dust and aerosoles: Work under hood. Do not inhale substance. Follow the instructions on the label. Actions to protect the environment: No special actions necessary. General hygiene considerations: General safety actions by working with chemicals are to consider. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Take off contaminated clothes. Before work breaks and the end of work please wash your hands. Don t eat or drink during work.

3 Guidance Attention: Start disinfection not before reading the safety hints! 1. Put the heat exchanger into an appropriate container. 2. For cleaning flush the heat exchanger with water from all sides. 3. Fill the container with sodium hypochlorite lotion 1%.

4. Scoop the lotion with an appropriate pot out oft he container an put the lotion in every opening oft he heat exchanger

Repeat this action two times, so that a fully moistening of the membrane respectively of all channels is ensured. 5.

Lift the exchanger so that the remaining sodium hypochlorite lotion can drip down. Take out the exchanger. 7.

4 4. Scoop the lotion with an appropriate pot out oft he container an put the lotion in every opening oft he heat exchanger (all open sides). Repeat this action two times, so that a fully moistening of the membrane respectively of all channels is ensured. 5. Don t move the exchanger for at least 15 minutes. 6. Lift the exchanger so that the remaining sodium hypochlorite lotion can drip down. Take out the exchanger. 7. Exhaust the container and ensure that there is no more sodium hypochlorite lotion is left. Put two bricks inside the clean container. This is later on helpful for the drainage of water out of the exchanger. 8. Put back the exchanger into the container and fill in soapsud into the channels of trhe exchanger (on all 4 sides).

9. Flush the exchanger in-depth with water (on all 4 sides). Two bricks under the exchanger are helpful for the drainage of the water out of the exchanger. 10.

Leave the exchanger for one day for drying. Before you put it back to the HRVU. Turn the exchanger meanwhile sometimes to ensure a complete drainage of water.
