2 Flue gas condensation... The combustion process occurs when the oxygen in the air, supporting the combustion, and the gas are brought to a temperature such to start a reaction. This reaction is of exothermic type, that means heat releasing. A cubic meter of methane during combustion produces kwh under form of thermal energy (sensitive heat), 1.6 kg of water under steam form (H 2 0) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). Latent heat recovery In traditional combustion boilers the steam, and its latent heat, is evacuated through the flue together with the flue gases. The purpose of the condensation technique is primarily to drastically reduce the latent heat dispersed in the flue gases, exploiting to the full the energy held in the fuel to obtain high efficiencies, impossible to reach using traditional systems. Use of energy in the flue gases To recover the energy accumulated in the flue gases as latent heat (or of vaporization) the condensing boiler is equipped with an extra large heat exchanger. This exchanger is designed so that the cold water, returning from the C.H. system, runs through its terminal part: the contact of the flue gases with this cold surface turns them from steam to liquid state (condensation), with relevant heat transfer to the water. This process means that it is possible to recover about 11% of the heat that generally would be lost in the flue gases, thus obtaining from the combustion of one cubic meter of methane a thermal energy of kwh instead of kwh Smoke ways 2 Cold wall 3 Condensate drops from cold wall 4 Smokes sent to the flue duct, practically without any water steam 5 Condensate drain 5 4

3 for the maximum energy exploitation (efficiency = 107%) The amount of heat that can be recovered from the flue gases, and therefore the amount of condensation produced, is inversely proportional to the working temperature of the system. The condensation technique is thus ideally suited in systems where the return temperature is as low as possible: the ideal system is, as a result, the heating system using radiant panels (floor heating systems). Efficiency (%) KONDENSAL EFFICIENCY Efficiency higher than 100% The capacity of a fuel to produce thermal energy during the combustion process is calculated by its Calorific Value. In general it can be said that the C.V. is the quantity of heat developed in the combustion of a unitary quantity of fuel 1 m 3 in the case of natural gas. Usually a distinction is made between G.C.V. (Gross Calorific Value) and N.C.V. (Net Calorific Value): the G.V.C. is the quantity of heat, freed through the complete combustion of 1 m 3 of gas, supposing to recover the latent heat contained in the steam present in the flue gases as well; the N.V.C. is the amount of heat, freed by the combustion of 1 m 3 of gas supposing that all the water contained in the flue gases, as steam, stays steam. The difference between the two calorific values is thus given by the value of the steam condensation heat held in the flue gases. Up until now, as it had never been possible to recover this heat with traditional boilers, only the N.C.V. was calculated when evaluating the efficiency. This is why, when speaking of condensing boilers, efficiencies higher than 100% can be reached. TRADITIONAL BOILER Output (kw)

5 Premix combustion: intelligent and ecological output The output of KONDENSAL varies according to the speed of the electronically controlled fan. Whatever the output level, therefore whatever the number of rotations of the fan, the airgas mixture is always right. 6 Personalized comfort with high energy saving KONDENSAL is fitted with a modern microprocessor that controls all the functions. It can be approached through a simple luminous display and six push buttons. Basic operating values (Combustion ratio, automatically selfadjusting heating program) are preset. The real value of the boiler temperature is compared with the temperature calculated by the microprocessor during the heating or domestic hot water mode by means of the C.H. flow, return and D.H.W. temperature sensors. When the data have been collected the microprocessor regulates the fan speed and then the supply of combustion air. Consequently the burner, designed to recall the exact amount of gas needed in each moment thanks to negative pressure created by the fan always guarantees the ideal air/gas ratio and thus a constantly high efficiency at whatever level. KONDENSAL becomes a refined thermal regulating system when connected to an appropriate outer sensor or to a modulating thermostat (provided as an option). This makes it possible, for the room temperature, to be kept constant despite variations in the external temperature, by regulating the temperature of the heating systems (radiators etc.) completely automatically. 7 The KONDENSAL electronic management evolution allows, in a simple, efficient and economic way, to solve the problems of heating zones at different temperatures. The possibility of connection to the electronic card of the modulating chronothermostat TM 2000 allows, as indicated into the figure, to manage different zones at different temperatures and priorities. The connection flexibility is so high that engineers and installers can choose completely automatic functions controlled at distance by TM 2000, a real remote control. By connecting an outdoor sensor, it will be possible a temperature adjusting as a function of the outdoor temperature. TM 2000 (optional): The information appearing on the main display, always of easy interpretation, indicates all the available data sent by the boiler electronic card. The three push buttons give access to the different modes on the preset programs: antifrost protection mode heating program 1 and 2 setpoint timings for switching ON and OFF the boiler continuous regulation economic reduction 65 Installation at low temperature for floor heating system Installation at high temperature for radiators By opening the small front cover, in correspondence of the three push buttons appear other symbols, that allow to modify the parameters; these functions are also used by technicians for an easier starting up and maintenance of the boiler. 8 KONDENSAL R TFS 30 KONDENSAL R TFS 30 is a condensing, wall hung, gas boiler, for heating only. Fitted with a premix burner, it works either with natural gas or LPG and reaches an output of 30,4 kw in condensing conditions. The combustion chamber is airtight, making the boiler suitable for installation in any room, with or without ventilation, with complete safety. It can work at very low temperatures and consequently offers high efficiency, thanks to maximum exploitation of condensation energy. This makes it ideal for floor heating systems. The R version can be fitted with an optional kit, composed of a threeway valve and control sensor for a remote domestic hot water tank. This makes possible to have the most of the boiler s small size and also profit from its high capacity to produce domestic hot water. Furthermore, it s possible to connect this boiler to the exclusive D.H.W. Unical storage tank DSP 120.

10 KONDENSAL C TFS 30 KONDENSAL CTFS 30 is a condensing, wall hung gas boiler, equipped with a premix burner, for operation with natural gas or LPG. Max. output is 30,4 kw, both during heating and instantaneous D.H.W. production. It is room sealed, fan assisted. Suction of combustion air and evacuation of combustion gases can be effectuated either by using coaxial type or separate ducts. All models have electronic ignition. 11 Constant temperature during domestic hot water drawing The KONDENSAL C TFS 30 s special construction has brilliantly resolved one of the main problems of instantaneous D.H.W. production boilers: the constant temperature during hot water drawing. To heat a primary tank having a 13 liter capacity (with inside a copper coil internal diameter 13 mm external diameter 15 mm and containing 1.3 liters of D.H.W.), insulated with high density polystyrene foam, KONDENSAL C TFS 30 exploits its continuous modulating output and characteristic thermal inertia present in the exchanger aluminium body mass. The maximum temperature factory preset is 65 C, but it can be regulated down to 35 C. The D.H.W. storage tank is kept at a constant temperature (factory preset at 65 C, can be regulated down to 35 C). Careful design ensures that exchange and insulation are very high. The domestic water to be heated enters the coil from the bottom and travels upwards through the 11 loops in countercurrent to the primary flow. At the outlet, a device, preset at 60 C, mixes the water to be used with cold water to avoid thermal shocks and sudden changes in temperature. The maximum domestic hot water flow rate that can be drawn with t of 25 K is 16,5 liters/minute.

12 KONDENSAL B TFS 30 KONDENSAL B TFS 30 is a condensing, wall hung gas boiler for central heating and D.H.W. production with a 60 liter storage tank and output of 30,4 kw. This model has an extremely powerful system for domestic hot water production. The vertical storage tank is enameled according to the Bayer method and offers the following characteristics: 60 liter domestic hot water always readily available at 65 C, adjustable up to 35 C. 9 minute max recovery time continuous flow rate of 16,3 liters/minute. The domestic hot water production Inside the enameled storage tank is present a steel coil of about 10 m in length, also enameled, which, together with the output of 30,4 kw exchanged in instantaneous D.H.W. production provides the fullest guarantee of hot water availability when required from more than one tap at the same time. Flame modulation The flame regulation that KONDENSAL uses even during domestic hot water production allows considerable energy saving. This permits heat delivery to be proportionate and electronically controlled according to the temperature of the domestic hot water in the storage tank. The lower the temperature, the greater the energy delivered.

14 The fan with high manometric head Electronically controlled fan detail The boiler is designed to operate at constant efficiency regardless of the length of the air/flue ducts. KONDENSAL is equipped with a high power fan able to reach a net available manometric head of 80 Pa. When the length and geometry of the air suction and flue ducts varies it selfadjusts.the length with separate ducts of 80 mm dia. in a straight line can reach, at the maximum output, up to 50 meters. L autoadaptation annule tous les problèmes d évacuation The longer the air/flue ducts are and therefore the higher the pressure losses are, the greater the pressure of the fan will be to discharge the combustion gases and, consequently, the lower the gas flow rate sucked in will be. In case of difficult evacuations maximum outputs will be lower than those declared, but always with the maximum efficiency.

16 Easy to install... In order to facilitate the boiler installation, Unical provides an optional plumbing template. This allows a quick and easy boiler connection. By fixing to the wall the provided mounting jig with its center line in vertical position, it is possible to determine the exact positioning of all the pipes connections. The template will then allow you to effectuate all connections and carry out soundness tests without having to assemble the boiler.
