Application The cabin units from Novenco are used for condition of cabins and to distribute fresh air from primary air handling units on ships.. Bundled parts Bundled with each cabin unit are four bolts with washers and a sealing strip.. Handling. Marking All cabin units are labelled with a standard type plate (figure ) containing Novenco s name and address, product type, a unique serial number and the maximum power consumption. A danger sign on the lid of unit indicates rotating parts. Cabin Unit Year of Manufacture 008 Type / Size Order No. Serial No. Voltage [V] Power [W] Marking Figure. Sample standard type plate. Weight The cabin unit has a dry weight of 6 kg.. Transport Cabin units from Novenco are delivered packed on pallets, allowing for fork lift transport. Check and inspect the delivery for missing parts and transport damages on reception. See also section. Bundled parts.. Storage IDAC V 50 5xx - / Industrivej, DK-700 Naestved, Denmark Phone +5 70, The cabin units must be stored at temperatures below 0 C and in dry locations. This is because the electric components are unprotected against corrosion. Humidity levels above 60% RH must be avoided for longer storage periods. 5. Installation 5. Mounting The cabin units are designed for vertical mounting on walls and bulk heads. An even surface is required to make a proper sealing between the wall and cabin unit. This is to reduce noise and damaging torsion of the frame, and to eliminate the risk of condensate on the back of the unit. The bundled sealing strip () is mounted along the edge on the back of the unit. Support the corners by mounting an extra piece of sealing strip as shown in figure. Figure. Corner mounting of sealing strip With the sealing in place, the unit can be bolted to the wall. The four bolt holes on the rear of the unit are intended for the bundled bolts () and washers (). It is important to ensure the unit is properly mounted on the wall. The bolts have to be tightened sufficiently to prevent vibrations and noise, and possible product failure. See figure. Wall Figure. 2 5. Water trap The unit must be provided with a water trap to prevent condensed water from flowing back and thereby causing unpleasant odours Forward () Return () tion to the CCU. See wiring diagram in figure 9. Phase/neutral Phase A pipe height of minimum 50 mm is required for the trap to function properly at the suction pressure generated when the fan is running. See figure. Supply air (0) Fresh air (9) Figure 6. Electric connection Figure. Water trap 6. Duct Connections >50 mm The cabin units are designed to be integrated into air handling systems, typically onboard ships. The units are joined together with standard insulated Spiro ducts and fittings Ø80 and Ø60. The drain of the drip tray at the bottom of the cabin unit requires a ¾" pipe. Chill water connections are located on top of the unit. To avoid condense and corrosion, it is important to use insulated pipes for positions,, 9 and 0, and the drain pipe as well. See figure 5. It is recommended to use the following order of installation: Drain from drip tray, inlet duct, pipes for chill water at the top, draw the cables through the glands and install them. See section 7. Electric Connections for details. Finally, the duct for fresh air (pre-conditioned) and the duct for the supply air (mixed air) can be mounted. See figure 5. Figure 5. Pipe mounting order In case of defects or to access the cables and chill water supply behind the fresh air duct (9), it is necessary to remove the air duct. With both duct system and cabin unit mounted in fixed positions, it is recommended to use an 80 mm telescopic duct. However, these are often manufactured without insulation, hence the insulation must be added manually and secured. The thickness of the insulation is to be approx. the same as that of the pre-insulated ducts and max. 5 mm. For chill water, the bulk head screw joints support mm Pex pipes and cobber pipes. For the assembly function a union nut, and one cutting ring is supplied with each joint. The hard cobber pipe withstands deformations, while the soft cobber pipe and the Pex- pipe require a supporting socket. 7. Electric Connections 7. Power supply The power supply to the unit is 0 V; max. 8 A and max. 0 A fuse. The max. power consumption is 800 W. Connect the 0 V cables to terminals and on the terminal board. See figure 6. It is important that the cables are drawn through the glands in the cabinet wall before they are fastened to the terminal board. See section 6. Duct Connections. The cables from the room thermostat are drawn in a similar way before connec- 7. 3 Refer to the guide "Manual for test software" for the vertical IDAC (V50) for further information. 7. Removing the automation box For a smooth installation of the cables and inspection, it is possible to withdraw the plate on which most of the control components are mounted. It is then hanging in an insulated wire, supporting the plate and avoiding damaging of terminals and wiring due to overstretching. The safety wire can be removed completely for repair or inspection of the socket facing downwards. 0 C Safety Thermostat Heating Coil 70 C Electronic thermostat QAP00.00 Balcony door Keycard switch (Unoccupied) Duct sensor NI 000 Solid State relay Crydom 8 + X M M D D M A+ Y B- M RS85 Connex Power supply 0V 50Hz Yellow/green 5 6 AC /V AC Y G G0 M ACX6 PLC M X CP+ CP- X Grey Red SSB69 Y G G0 Cold water valve PE Black Fan motor 0V BLUE BLACK BROWN 6 μf/00v 5 L F N L Nimbus Smart fan Fan speed control - ISO + QAP00.00 Supply air temperature CP+ QAA88. Thermostats Both an electronic and a high temperature cut-out thermostat are used for protection of the cabin unit. The mechanical thermostat features a manual reset, while the electronic one has an automatic reset function. If the electronic control of the heater malfunctions, the mechanical thermostat switches off at temperatures above 0 C. To re-activate the heating element, the power supply has to be switched off in the main function and terminal box of the ship utilities. It is then safe to remove the lid by loosening the four ¼ turn locks. The manual thermostat is located near the damper. See figure 0. Reset the thermostat by pressing the pawl. Thermostat pawl Figure 0. Thermostat position The lid is mounted by following the process described above in reverse. After mounting, it is safe to turn the power on again. If it is necessary to reset the mechanical thermostat, the electronic sensor might be malfunctioning and have to be replaced. The problem might also be a fault in the control system. It is important that the fault is eliminated. If the problem cannot be solved by ordinary troubleshooting, further actions may have to be taken. Refer to the guide "Manual for test software for the vertical IDAC (V50), section 5. Control and test for more information.
4 9. Service panel The HMI (Human-Machine Interface) is a portable service panel for use on site by technicians. In addition to displaying all the basic information it is also used for control and configuration of cabin units. Figure. Service panel (HMI) Button Return to main menu To previous level Function On/off of application (depends on settings) Switch to alarm page. The lamp built into the button flashes red, if an alarm or warning is present. This button is also used to reset alarms. 5 Move the cursor up or down 6 7 Table Move the cursor left or right in the display. This is also used for adjusting values. Activate selected field to change values. Press Enter again to accept changes. HMI button functions 9. Connecting the service panel Connect the interface cable to the RJ5 plug located on the V-IDAC. The unit is controlled via a menu. Figure. Service panel menu 0. Commissioning The cabin units are designed to deliver a set volume of air. The flow can be set in each cabin with the user panel in case the service panel is unavailable. The fan is running at 0% by default, which also is the recommended minimum. This can be changed with the user panel. See section. User panel for details on the panel. The chill water flow for the coil is controlled by the three-way valve and the attached actuator, receiving signals from the controller. However, manual control is possible with a mm Allen key. Refer to the datasheet for the actuator Siemens SSB8. Figure. Three-way valve manual control 0. Primary airflow adjustment A check of the static pre-pressure in the fresh air supply duct is done on tap. See figure 5. The pressure drop over the orifice for fresh air (pre-conditioned) is used to calculate the actual fresh air flow. Figure 5. Nozzle position The primary airflow is calculated with the expression. Airflow = 7. Δps [m /h] - Where Δps - is the differential pressure between the test points and. The damper for fresh air (pre-conditioned) is adjusted with the Philips screw at the side of the damper access through the rubber button in the lid. See figure 6. Figure 6. Adjusting damper Nozzles and Plug for net cable Figure. Position of plug for net cable
5 . User panel The user panel (UP) is intended for room installation. It is operated with four buttons; "<", ">", "+" and "-". The arrow keys are only for use in Parameter mode. The plus and minus buttons are for adjusting values (setpoints). The two symbols to the left of the LCD indicates whether cooling and heating is active. Figure 7. User panel To enter Parameter mode Press "<" (left), ">" (right) and "-" (minus) together. Press "-" twice to enter parameter mode. The display shows "Mod0". Press "+" or "-" to choose the level (Diagnostic, User, Service). Press "<" to select. Press "+" or "-" to choose parameter, followed by "<" to select and "+" or "-" to adjust values. Press "<" to enter value. 5 Press ">" to exit Parameter mode. Certain parameter changes require a controller restart (address change etc). This is indicated by the room unit display flashing after exiting parameter mode. The controller is reset either by power off, or by pressing both the "+" and "-" buttons (set point adjust) for more than 5 seconds. The reset is indicated by the display clearing completely and all LCD segments being displayed. When parameters are changed, the controller is reset automatically minutes after leaving parameter mode. The display can indicate different conditions with five bars located in the bottom part of the display. See figure 8, in which bar no. is active. Meaning of bars Energy save Balcony door open KeyCard out Spare 5 Alarm active Figure 8. Sample user panel readout - cooling and auto modes are active Refer to the guide Control Specification, Cabin Unit V-IDAC (V50) for further details about Parameter mode.. Operating conditions The cabin unit is designed to operate at temperatures between 0 and 0 C. The temperature must be above 0 C to avoid ice related damages in the wet parts of the system.. Troubleshooting The following troubleshooting can be carried out on site without support from Novenco. Problem Fan not running (no airflow) Too much or little cooling effect Too much or little heating effect Table. Solutions Check if power supply is lost or an internal fuse on control board is blown. The three-way valve is malfunctioning, i.e. the flow is wrong. Check for defect heat sensors or if the heating element is broken or if an error in a solid state relay or automation component has occurred or if the user panel is malfunctioning Troubleshooting solutions. Changing parts The following parts may have to be changed when solving problems described in section. Troubleshooting. In each case it is provided that the power is turned off, and the lid is removed. Important: Turn off the power before removing the lid.. Nimbus fan controller Draw the automation box out on the guide rails and remove the safety wire. Remove the protection cover () and the six connected cables. Finally, remove the controller itself by the four corner-placed screws. Notice the wiring when dismantling and refer to the cable diagram. Assemble the parts in reverse order. It is important to check that the switches and jumpers on the Nimbus are positioned as shown below, before power is turned on. Jumper J Check position before cover is mounted. Nimbus Switch settings Figure 9. Setting jumpers and switches. Safety thermostat Remove the automation box completely. Unplug the cables on the thermostat and withdraw the sensor through the gland. Use an offset screwdriver for the two screws. Mount the new thermostat by repeating the procedure in reverse. Adjust the thermostat for 0 C with the indication pawl.. Heating element Remove the automation box completely. Unplug the cables on the element and loosen the two nuts that fasten the element to the wall. Due to limited space, the screws between the wall and bulk head have to be loosened. It is then possible to twist the lower end out of the hole, and turn the element into an upright position and twist the upper end. 5
6 Novenco A/S Industrivej Tel. 70 DK-700 Naestved Fax Denmark Replace the heating element and fasten it with nuts and cables. Refer to the guide "Manual for test software for the vertical IDAC (V50), section 5. Control and test and follow this procedure to make sure the element is working.. Coil Turn off the chill water supply. To remove the coil, it is necessary first to unplug the cable to the fan and then remove the fan. It is then possible to dismantle the three-way valve on the side of the Pex pipes. Bend over the pipes in direction of the fan area. Loosen the four bolts at the brackets. The coil including the three-way valve can then be removed. Be aware that the fittings are clamped to the coil, hence a new pair is required. The union nuts go with the coil and can be reused. Inspect the lip on top of the coil. Replace it if it cannot keep airtight. Assembly is done in reverse order..5 Automation components All components are relatively resistant to handling and connection. With the power turned off, the transformer, ACX6 controller, capacitors and relays can be replaced. See also section. Nimbus fan controller..6 Three-way valve The process of removing the valve is described in section. Coil..7 Actuator for three-way valve Remove the three cords from the transformer and controller. Pull the cable through the gland towards the valve. Release the valve by loosening the union nut at the bottom, by hand. Replace and reconnect. 5. Maintenance Observe the warning sign on the lid and wait until the fan has stopped completely before removing the lid. See section. Marking. Also keep in mind that the heating element takes time to cool off and may be quite hot. Regarding maintenance, overhauls are limited to change of filter and cleaning twice a year. The same safety conditions apply, if there is a breakdown and parts have to be changed. Before any cleaning or changing of parts can be done, the power supply has to be switched off. After that the communication cable and lid are removed. Avoid damaging the insulation, when the lid is removed. Clean the internal parts with a damp cloth or vacuum cleaner. Remount the lid and cables in reverse order. The filter placed in the inlet is to be changed when needed or at least every six months. Remove the lid to change the filter. The filter is located as the first component from the bottom. Pull up the frame, guided by the rails. Turn the filter upside down and remove the rear insert grill. Replace the rectangular filter mat. The filter must have the minimum dimensions rather precisely 0x7x5 mm. Mount the filter frame by doing the procedure in reverse. Make sure the lip on top is undamaged, as it affects the airtightness and performance of the unit. The filter is a single use filter and is made from Viledon PSB/75S, G media, which applies to the standard G EN779 A washable filter can also be used, resulting in reduced performance, though..8 Electric wiring The complete electric wiring is shown in figure 9. Refer to this when disconnecting cables. 6
