5 TROUBLESHOOTING SERVICE SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL ONLY. WARNING: Turn off the "Power/Off/Fill" switch, unplug the power supply cord and allow the coffee brewer to cool before servicing unless electrical testing is required. WARNING: Make sure installation instructions have been followed before attempting to test this coffee brewer. This appliance is equipped with an automatic temperature limit control designed to turn the appliance off if it overheats. In that event, do not reset until a qualified service representative has inspected and repaired the appliance. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD THE TEMPERATURE LIMIT CONTROL BE BYPASSED OR AN ALTERNATE CONTROL USED, AS A FIRE RISK COULD RESULT. IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE, THE HI-LIMIT THERMOSTAT SHOULD BE REPLACED. USE ONLY ORIGINAL OR AUTHORIZED REPLACEMENT PARTS. Symptom 1. The coffee brewer will not operate. The light does not work and the coffee brewer will not brew coffee. 2. The coffee brewer will not brew coffee. The light works. 3. The coffee brewer will not heat. The brewing cycle works but the water is cold. Remedies Make sure the power supply cord is connected to an appropriate working wall receptacle. Test the wall receptacle and the circuit breaker in the building. Make sure the Power-Off-Fill switch has been turned on. Reset or replace the hi-limit thermostat. Test the Power-Off-Fill Switch. Replace it if necessary. Test the power supply cord. Test the Power-Off-Fill Switch. Replace it if necessary. Test the solenoid valve. Replace it if necessary. If present, check any in-line water filters; check valve or shut-off valves for proper operation or blockage. 5. The hi-limit thermostat keeps activating. Test the hi-limit thermostat. Replace it if necessary Check the hi-limit mounting nuts. The hi-limit should be just snug against the tank. Too much pressure against the tank could cause the hi-limit to activate prematurely. Test the brewing temperature. Adjust the thermostat if necessary. (See page 8) Inspect the wiring on the hi-limit thermostat for loose, damaged or overheating wires or terminals. Repair or replace wiring as necessary. WARNING Under no circumstance should the hi-limit thermostat be by-passed. In the event of failure, the hi-limit thermostat should be replaced. Use only original or authorized replacement parts. 6. The coffee brewer trips the buildings Too many appliances are connected on one electrical circuit. circuit breaker. The electrical circuits amperage rating is too low. Locate a correctly rated circuit or call an electrician to correct this problem. This coffee brewer may require a dedicated wall circuit. Check the electrical specifications. Inspect the tank heating element. Replace the tank if necessary. 7. The beverage level is consistently high or Inspect and clean the spray head, silicone tubing and fittings. consistently low. Test the timer. Replace it if necessary. 6 Symptom Remedies 8. The beverage level is inconsistent. Inspect and clean the spray head, silicone tubing and fittings. Test the timer. Replace it if necessary. Test the water-incoming water supply for inconsistent water pressure. If the water pressure is inconsistent, install a water pressure regulator and reduce the water pressure to minimize water pressure fluctuations. Some types of water filtering systems may affect the water supply pressure and cause inconsistent beverage levels. If necessary, switch to the normal water supply and add an inline water filter. If present, check any in-line water filters. Check valves or shut-off valve for proper operation or blockage. 9. The brewing cycle is too slow. Inspect and clean the spray head, silicone tubing and fittings. The flow control washer should be.06 gpm. Incorrect flow washers can cause inaccurate beverage levels. Inspect, clean or replace the flow washer and screen. Test the timer. Replace it if necessary. Test the incoming water supply pressure. Water pressure should be between 30 and 80 psi. 10. The brewing temperature is either too hot or too cold. 11. The water flow starts and stops during the brew cycle. Adjust or replace thermostat. Turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise to increase the temperature, clockwise to decrease. Turn the adjustment screw a maximum or 1/8 turn per adjustment. Retest and adjust again if necessary. The recommended temperature is between 192 and 196 F. Test below the brew cone with water only. The flow control washer should be.06 gpm. Incorrect flow washers can cause inaccurate beverage levels. WARNING If the thermostat cannot be adjusted properly, it should be replaced. The thermostat is calibrated at the factory and no attempt should be made to recalibrate it. Use only original authorized replacement parts. Test the Power-Off-Fill Switch. Replace it if necessary. Test the solenoid Relay. Replace it if necessary. Test the Power-Off-Fill switch. Replace it if necessary. 12. The brewing cycle starts by itself. Test the Power-Off-Fill Switch. Replace it if necessary. Test the solenoid valve for leaks. Replace it if necessary. Test the timer. Replace it if necessary. 13. The brew cycle continues even after the knob has reached off. 14. The water drips from the spray head after the knob is off. 15. The coffee brewer steams through the spray head.. Test the Power-Off-Fill Switch. Replace it if necessary. Test the timer. Replace it if necessary. Inspect and clean the spray head, silicone tubing and fittings. Test the solenoid valve for leakage. Clean the spray head. Test the brewing temperature. Adjust it if necessary. (See page 8). Inspect, clean or replace the flow washer and screen. The flow washer should be.06 gpm. Clean or replace the tank assembly. 16. Parts are failing frequently. Test the voltage supply. The voltage supply should match the voltage requirement on the electrical nameplate. Test the wall receptacle for correct polarity. Use original or authorized, replacement parts. Page 6

7 Symptom 17. Water leaks from the bottom of the coffee brewer. Inspect the tank, silicone tubing and fittings for leakage. Remedies 18. The solenoid valve chatters or howls. The coffee brewer should be connected to a cold water line only. Copper tubing should not touch the coffee brewer, walls or cabinet. Position the tubes so that they are not touching anything. Water Hammer. Contact a plumber to correct this problem. Test the solenoid valve. Replace it if necessary.
