3 CULSHAW KITCHENETTES Culshaw is the work of craftsman Michael Culshaw and his skilled team. Together they have been creating beautiful handmade kitchens and interiors for over 22 years. Over time Culshaw have gained a reputation for artistic flair and quality of workmanship. KITCHENETTE INTRODUCTION We have always had a passion for design and have spent many years collecting original and iconic furniture to inspire our work. One such purchase was a 1950 s Formica faced plywood kitchenette with an enamelled drop down worktop. We developed this idea further and created a small fold away kitchen built into a cupboard. A cupboard that looks beautiful on the outside and has a fully functioning kitchen on the inside. A kitchen filled with functional appliances, and clever storage.

FEARNLEY GRAND The Fearnley Kitchenette s design style is inspired by the traditional cabinetry of the Georgian period, a time when painted furniture became popular.

5 FEARNLEY GRAND The Fearnley Kitchenette s design style is inspired by the traditional cabinetry of the Georgian period, a time when painted furniture became popular. These cabinets fit beautifully and seamlessly into any room designed to be more of a living space than simply a kitchen. The Fearnley Grand can accommodate a washer dryer, a concealed oven or a full sized dishwasher amongst other options. If more appliances or storage is required there is the Kitchenette Companion, an island cabinet that can be used to increase the kitchen size for larger one room or multifunctional living spaces. 5

Originally designed for studio apartments, we have been overwhelmed by the variety of spaces that our kitchenettes have been added to. Our kitchenettes have been used in small off-grid retreats, a house boat, a tiny island retreat, a church, a town hall boardroom and of course many garden offices, family annexes, loft conversions, summer houses and holiday lets. 11

It is ideal for under windows, alongside stairs and fits well into low eaves and low ceiling spaces. The Fearnley Petit Base has all the appliances of the full kitchenette apart from the microwave oven with grill. 17

21 HIVEHAUS Culshaw were approached by friend, colleague and product designer Barry Jackson, to produce a kitchenette for the Hivehaus, a new modular living system based on the hexagon. Barry s vision was for a kitchenette that would be a part of his design style concept Future Retro a style that fused mid-century design with modern concepts to produce a retro but forward looking design principle adding a modern twist to furniture for today. This style fitted in perfectly with Michael s idea of fun and functional kitchenettes. The Hivehaus Kitchenette is available through Hivehaus and Culshaw and looks great in any funky midcentury styled apartment. The Hivehaus Kitchenette is also available in a narrower 1320mm width and has a Formica and plywood worktop synonymous with the original 1950 s influence. 21

27 BASIC ASSEMBLY The assembly of our kitchenettes is uncomplicated and designed for ease of installation. The base is complete and the top cabinet is in five sections excluding the doors. The main principle of the kitchenette assembly is to position the kitchenette base a comfortable distance from the wall in front of its final resting place. The top cabinets are assembled and the kitchenette is moved back into position. Great care should be taken to level the kitchenette and fix it back to the wall. Next insert the sink, taps and granite. Plumb the sink and taps and connect the electrical appliances. The final job is to fit and adjust the doors and to scribe and fix the plinth. Annexes with cold water only supplies can add an instant hot water heater or boiling water tap to the kitchenette. 28 QUALITY All Culshaw kitchenettes are beautifully made sturdy cabinets constructed using a clever interlocking system to fix the top cabinets to the base. The larder shelves are solid oak. The oak drawers are dovetailed and fitted with Blum Movento soft close drawer runners. Heavy duty stainless steel hinges are used to carry the larder doors. Culshaw Kitchenettes will always be handmade in the UK. Overseas manufacture would stop our ability to be flexible and prevent us from producing bespoke furniture. Similarly our granite worktops are made here in Lancashire allowing the same flexibility in their manufacturing process. For the client that doesn t need a sink or hob we can make a worktop to suit their needs. This flexibility enables us to build our kitchenettes to almost any specification and we are often commissioned to do so. Bespoke kitchenettes are inevitably more specialised and are priced accordingly. All our kitchenettes are made to order with an average lead time of 6 weeks. 29
