6 Siemens vacuum switching technology precision down to the last detail The excellent economic and technical characteristics of vacuum arc quenching makes the vacuum circuit-breaker the most frequently deployed switching device in the world in the voltage range 1 kv to 52 kv. The core of every vacuum circuit-breaker The vacuum interrupter as the arc-quenching medium is the central component of every vacuum circuit-breaker. Vacuum interrupters do not contain a medium that can be ionized, so the switching behavior is determined by the material the contacts are made of. Vacuum technology has many advantages: a constant dielectric, no decomposition products, no oxidation, so consistently metallic contact surfaces and constant contact resistance throughout the lifetime of the product. As the core component, the maintenance-free vacuum interrupters make these modern SION circuit-breakers maintenance free for up to 10,000 operating cycles (optionally up to 30,000 operation cycles). Air insulation makes for optimum cooling during continuous operation, so that the highest possible nominal currents can be reached in the switchgear.
