2 Maximum protection, maximum hygiene Preserving water quality in all drinking water installations For many people today, being able to use clean drinking water is still not a matter of course, even though the United Nations in 2010 recognized access to clean drinking water as a human right. Assuming a correspondingly appropriate infrastructure, operators of drinking water installations are thus responsible for ensuring the availability of perfect water quality. Improperly constructed and operated drinking-water systems can cause the originally clean water to become contaminated within a building. The main causes are stagnation and critical temperatures. With the option for hygiene flushing and thermal disinfection, Franke s innovative series of AQUAFIT fittings supports operators in their responsibility to ensure highest drinking water hygiene day and night. The compulsory functions of intelligent mixer valves are: Protection against scalding by limiting the hot water temperature to a maximum of 43 C (according to code of practice) Ensuring that drinking water is hygienic, by performing hygiene flushing and thermal disinfection Providing sensitive temperature control even for users with reduced motor skills, by means of a large comfort zone within the temperature range from 34 C through 38 C 2

3 Regulatory requirements European Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC (EU: 31998L0083) on the quality of water intended for human consumption This directive defines a maximum lead content of 10 µg/l drinking water in the EU. Besides the standard version with its adjustable temperature stop, Franke offers a comfort model featuring thermostatic scald-protection (in compliance with DIN EN 1111). With its compact design, this cartridge ensures a DIN EN regulation-compliant limitation of the hot water temperature to a maximum of 43 C, and stops water flow in the event of cold water failure. A thermocouple integrated in the mixer cartridge ensures protection against scalding. 3

4 Hygiene by remote control Flushing and disinfecting without the need for manual opening No-touch hygiene this is made possible by combining the AQUAFIT single-lever mixer with an optional hygiene unit. It consists of a function block made of low-lead brass with a solenoid valve cartridge, which connects directly from the underside of the washbasin to the fitting base of the lever mixer. With two cables which are preferably laid in an empty tube, the solenoid valves are connected to the electronic control unit mounted on the wall beneath the washbasin. The additional function block provides the features necessary for subjecting the AQUAFIT single-lever mixer to regulation-compliant disinfection and to perform automatic hygiene flushing for all water-conducting parts. The optional remote control can be used to change the factory-set parameters, such as flushing duration and flushing interval as well as the settings for thermal disinfection. In addition, program-controlled thermal disinfection can be started by the simple press of a button. Awarded tap innovation: The new AQUAFIT single-lever mixer won the Special Mention award for specific design quality in the category home interior. This award is a part of the German Design Award 2014 by the German Design Council. With its clear linework and ergonomic mixing lever, the AQUAFIT single-lever mixer facilitates easy and convenient operation for all users. Thanks to the flat, abrasionresistant mixer marking, the fitting is easy to clean. An integrated flow controller, which guarantees a constant flow of 6 l/min, ensures that our important water resources are used economically. 4 4

FOR ALL sanitary facilities Innovative fitting technology also for accessible sanitary rooms Persons with physical disabilities will not need to do without the advantages offered by the AQUAFIT single-lever mixer. With its newly designed 150 mm lever cap, the AQUAFIT single lever mixer is now available for accessible sanitary rooms. The extended, ergonomic handle lever provides all users with the means for comfortable and safe hand washing. The clear and easy operability of this fitting model is based on the two-senses principle. On the one hand the easy-to-grasp lever shape, with its slight curvature and finger recess in the front area, serves as a tactile aid. On the other hand the highcontrast laser-etched top surface of the lever provides visual support and orientation. The AQUAFIT for accessible wash facilities is equipped with a solenoid cartridge which offers thermostatic scald-protection as a standard. A pressure-independent laminar jet controller with a constant flow rate of 6 l / min is also a standard feature of this fitting. Laminar jet controllers are particularly suitable for use in hygienically sensitive areas such as hospitals and nursing facilities. 5

6 The guarantee for sound drinking water: Hygiene unit for AQUAFIT single-lever mixer, consisting of: Fitting block with two solenoid valves Electronic control unit Remote control for setting the function parameters for thermal disinfection and hygiene flushing Hygiene flushing: The preset hygiene flushing routine automatically opens both solenoid valves after 24 hours, and keeps them open for 3 minutes to ensure a sufficient exchange of water although the mixing lever is closed. The remote control can be used to make changes to the parameters for flush-interval and flush duration, and to select the solenoid valve. Thermal disinfections: For thermal disinfection, the temperature of the inner surface of the single-lever mixer is increased to 70 C for 5 minutes, in compliance with regulations. Parameters such as exposure time and cooling time can be adjusted by remote control to meet specific building requirements. Put a stop to legionella & Co. Thermal disinfection reduces the risk of legionella infection Thermal disinfection is started by remote control. An electronic pulse is transmitted via the electronic control unit to the solenoid valve on the hot water side. Water with a temperature of at least 70 C flows through the water-conducting inner surfaces of the fitting via the function block and directly to the outlet. The factory-set treatment time is 5 min, subdivided into 2 min of water and energy saving permanent water flow and 3 min of pulsating water delivery. During the subsequent cooling period, the cold water side opens for 10 seconds and removes residual hot water from the tap.
