CHARACTERISTICS: This material has been cut from carefully selected stone blocks, quarried from Mother Earth. Please understand that NO TWO pieces will be the same, and as a natural product, it will contain blemishes which are characteristic of stone. When natural stone is extracted from the source, the veining, shading and color will have extreme variation from one part of the mountain to another; thus each tile has a pattern of its own. Also, the size and thickness of each tile will vary within industry standards. The color, veining and shading in stone are caused by minor amounts of mineral substances deposited during formation meaning that the sample you see in the showroom may vary from the material actually installed in your home. All these are features of natural stone and will always be present to some degree. Each tile could be all one shade or a combination of light, medium, and dark shades in various proportions. If these variations in natural stone are not appealing to you, then natural stone may not be the best choice for your home. Today, there are many ceramic or porcelain products that emulate natural stone while at the same time are more consistent than a natural stone is expected to be. About MARBLE: Marble is primarily composed of calcium carbonates. It is susceptible to stains and abrasions due to its softness. Most marble purchased today has a high reflective polish. This polish is achieved by the use of grinding stones and polishing compounds and can be damaged. If the stone is exposed to acids such as orange juice, lemonade, wine, vinegar, alcohol, tomato juice, yogurt, perfume, aftershave or acidic cleaners etching (a loss of polish) will result. If etching does occur the stone must be resurfaced preferably by a professional. Avoid cleaners unless specifically designated safe for Natural Stone. This includes glass cleaners used to clean mirrors above a marble countertop or toilet bowl cleanser when the toilet is set on a marble floor. Polished marble is not recommended for use in food preparation areas due to the fact that etching cannot be prevented. To minimize staining and etching we recommend applying a stone sealer. Honed marble (unpolished marble) is very absorbent and should be sealed with a stone sealer. In general, a honed surface will require less maintenance than a polished one. Marble floors should be swept daily to keep abrasive particles to a minimum. A marble cleaner should be used regularly to remove soils and contaminates.

2 About GRANITE: Granite consists mainly of quartz and is available in several finishes such as polished, flamed, sandblasted, and honed. It is a relatively hard stone; however, it can be stained easily due to the small fissures between the quartz crystals. Stone sealer should be used to protect the stone from readily absorbing water and oilborne stains. Use of placemats or coasters on all natural stone surfaces and remembering not to place hot items directly on your countertops is recommended. Commercially available Miracle Cloths are effective for drying and maintaining a streak-free appearance with all darker stones. Do not use acidic or abrasive cleansers such as Bon Ami, Soft Scrub, Comet, bathroom cleaners or ammoniated products on any natural stone. Only neutral based cleansers such as Ivory soap or those specifically designed for natural stone should be used. About LIMESTONE: Limestone has the same characteristics as marble; however, most limestone purchased in today s market has a honed or textured finish. This surface is very absorbent and is susceptible to staining. A stone sealer is recommended to dramatically lower the ability of the stone to absorb liquids that cause deep stains. About SLATE: Slate is a semi-hard rock with a tendency to split into thin plates. Some slates will absorb stains and some will show foot traffic over time. Slate can be protected in two ways. If a natural appearance is desired a stone sealer should be applied to the slate. This does not protect the slate from abrasion because there is no physical barrier on the surface. Therefore, if a gloss is desired and a protective coating is necessary there are stone sealers that have additives to provide long-lasting protection from abrasion. About GROUT: Grout is mostly made up of sand, cement, and pigments. It is used to fill spaces between ceramic tiles and natural stone. A slight discoloration in cementitious grout is very common. Shading variations may occur in the grout after it is installed. Around sinks where water is prevalent and around stove cook tops where cooking oil and grease are present the grout may appear darker than other areas. Cement-based grout joints are absorbent to water, oil, and food stains. After a period of time, grout will separate from non-porous surfaces. Latex additives will not prevent staining. There are two types of grout sanded and non-sanded. Sanded grout is sponge-like which allows dirt particles and stains to lodge into the pores. Once there the dirt or stains will be difficult if not impossible to remove. Non-sanded grouts will also stain. A grout sealer must be used to minimize damage to grout joints and leave the surface natural in appearance. Sub-surface sealers penetrate the grout while leaving the surface natural in appearance. Topical sealers form a barrier on the surface and may give a light gloss to the grout. Sealing of the grout is the homeowner s responsibility. About SEALER: A stone sealer is recommended in shower area and all other wet areas. It will be the homeowner s responsibility to check and properly seal caulk to prevent water damage. There are several types of sealers available. To determine the type of product you need please see the list below: Solvent Based Impregnator Sealer Stain protection for all natural interior and exterior natural stones, granite and marble. This is a wipe on, wipe off product that can be used on grout. Water Based Porous Stone Protector Stain protection for more porous natural stones, limestone, travertine, slate or concrete. This is a wipe on, wipe off product that can be used on grout. Grout Sealer Stain protection for grout. This product is generally used when a glazed tile is used and only the grout needs to be sealed. It is usually applied with a small brush. Stone Sealer Test: Spill a few drops of water on your natural stone. Wait approximately 5 minutes and wipe the area dry. If the stone did not darken the surface is sealed properly. If the area darkened you need to seal the stone with a quality impregnating sealant.

About GLAZED TILE: Ceramic tile is made from natural materials. Special clays, pyrophyllite, rock and flint are mixed together, pressed into shape, glazed and kiln-fired at temperatures as high as 2100 degrees Fahrenheit. Because it is made of natural materials, ceramic tile is non-toxic and environmentally safe. Glaze on a ceramic tile is the result of a high-temperature kiln melting sand and other ingredients onto the tile body. The glaze makes the tile impervious and therefore does not need to be sealed. However, the grout around the tile should be sealed using a grout or all-purpose sealer. Due to the nature of manufacturing of ceramic tiles and quarry tile each individual dye-lot may vary from existing samples. In compliance with the industry-wide standard set by the Tile Contractors Board of America, no changes will be made unless the discoloration affects more than 10% of the tile. Because of the different composition, glazes, surface textures and gloss levels some ceramic tiles are more suitable for specific uses. Your design consultant can provide you with the product that will best suit your needs. Tiles with shiny finishes will show scratches more often than those with matte finishes. About PORCELAIN: Non-polished porcelain pavers are durable and fairly impervious but can be difficult to keep clean because dirt and liquids can get into the pore structure on the face of the tile. Use of a stone sealer can minimize this by repelling liquids. Polished porcelain, in most cases, does not need to be sealed. However, like all porcelains it should be cleaned with a marble cleaner. Ceramic Maintenance: Floors Floors can be kept clean and bright with popular household cleaners. Simply sweep or vacuum and wash as needed with a diluted solution of a household cleaner. Rinse thoroughly to remove residue and wipe dry. Floors that are in high-traffic areas and require heavy-duty cleaning can be cleaned with a commercial tile cleaner or a more concentrated solution of a household cleaner. Apply vigorously with a scrub brush, rinse and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth or sponge mop. Countertops Countertops can be kept clean with a clean damp sponge or cloth. You can also supplement with all-purpose household cleaners previously mentioned. Badly soiled countertops should be covered with a thick solution of scouring powder and hot water. Allow these to set for five to ten minutes then scrub with a non-scratching bristled brush and rinse. Additional treatments may be necessary. If stains remain apply undiluted household bleach and let it stand for at least five minutes. Follow precautions stated on bleach label. Liquid Comet is also superior for cleaning soiled counters. After a thorough cleaning, rinse well and dry. Note: Cleaners with bleach can change the appearance of colored grouts. Special Tips for Baths Baths that endure more use than others are subjected to a wide variety of residues from soap and shampoo. The best tip is to not let these surface oils build up: regular care can go a long way! After each use simply wipe down your tiled shower wall with a towel. This simple procedure will eliminate the build-up of soap scum or hard water film and mildew won t develop. Routine wiping with a damp sponge or cloth will generally maintain the brightness of vanity tops, walls, and floors. Bath Floors, Tub Surround and Shower Walls If you have soft water, maintain walls using an all-purpose cleaner. Allow to stand for about five minutes before lightly scrubbing with a sponge. Rinse well. For hard water commercial tile cleaners such as Tile-It are available at most supermarkets and will do the best job. As an alternative we recommend a solution of white vinegar and water in equal amounts to remove deposits. Test these products in a small area first to be sure they do not etch your tile or erode your grout. Vinegar can damage some crystalline tile glazes and grouts.

5 Scouring Powders Soft Scrub Cleaner does NOT contain abrasives that will affect the gloss of your tile. Comet and Ajax are among the most widely distributed abrasive scouring powders. NOTE: Take care when using cleaners containing abrasives on ceramic tile with shiny or gloss surfaces. IMPORTANT: When scouring with any powder, test a small inconspicuous area first to make sure that scouring action does not scratch or dull the glaze.

The following is a list of recommended products: (All cleaners must be rinsed thoroughly) Clorox Bleach (Sparingly on white grout) Lysol Daily Shower Cleaner Arm & Hammer Clean Shower ZAP Restorer Tilex X-14 CLR Bath & Kitchen Cleaner Future Mop N Go NON-RECOMMENDED CLEANERS FOR CAULK: Any cleaner that has a color added is not acceptable to clean caulked surfaces. The following is a list of products that should not be used: Windex (blue) Fantastic Formula 409 Comet Cleanser Ajax Cleanser Pine-Sol Simple Green Dawn Dishwashing Liquid NOTE: Always remember to clean up spills immediately to keep from permanent staining.

CORIAN Precautions Heat Do not place high-temperature objects directly onto solid surfaces. Use of a trivet is recommended as hot cookware can damage the surface. Cutting Avoid cutting on the solid surface. Under excessive conditions, solid surfaces will show cut marks. Use of a cutting board is recommended. Stains While solid surfaces are resistant to most common household chemicals some strong acid or alkaline cleaners can mar or permanently discolor the surface if allowed to remain for extended periods of time. Accidental spills from harsh agents should be wiped off immediately and rinsed with water. Potentially harmful compositions include: rust remover, toilet bowl cleaner, ceramic cooktop cleaners, paint or varnish removers, metal cleaners, drain cleaners, contact adhesive solvent, oven cleaners, and lacquer thinner. Cleaning and Restoration Solid surfaces will give you years of service and enjoyment with some simple care and precautions. To keep clean and remove simple stains: Use a damp cloth and Fantastik to maintain a fresh and clean look. Removing stubborn stains: Hard water deposits, cigarette burns and minor scratches on matte-finish material use an abrasive scrub sponge such as 3M Scotch-Brite kitchen scrub sponge or the equivalent maroon industrial pad (3M Scotch-Brite brand #7447). Removing deep stains and scratches: Use fine sandpaper and then finish off with the above-mentioned cleaning procedures. A professional should handle this. 8 Quartz Surfaces (Cambria/Silestone/Zodiac) Quartz surfacing is resistant to stains caused by wine, fruit juices, vinegar, soda, tea, coffee and other common household materials that would stain most natural stone. It is non-porous therefore does not need be sealed. Quartz surfaces can tolerate brief periods of moderate temperatures, however, can be damaged by high heat and prolonged exposure. Hot pads or trivets are suggested when placing hot pans on the surface. For best results clean all stains and spills immediately, however, if you have a difficult spill that has dried on the countertop (such as gum, food, grease, nail polish or paint) remove by gently scraping away the excess with a plastic putty knife, apply Saniten 313, Greased Lightening or comparable product directly to the stain, let the cleaning agent sit for 15 minutes then wipe the surface clean with a cotton cloth. Rinse thoroughly to remove any residue. Avoid using any strong agents such as: Bleach, Drano, oven cleaners, floor strippers or harsh chemicals (acetone, paint removers, lacquer thinners or the like). Basic routine cleaning involves nothing more than warm soapy water or a mild household cleaner such as Formula 409, Simple Green, Fantastik or spray-away non-ammoniated cleaner. Always use a cutting board. Even though these surfaces are scratch resistant they can be damaged by knives or other sharp objects. Please refer to the warranty brochure pertaining to your particular surface as warranties may be voided if surfaces are not maintained to the manufacturer s specifications.

Hardwood and bamboo are natural products with naturally-occurring imperfections and variations in color, grain, and appearance. In any quantity of flooring there will always be variations of color, grain, and appearance and these are not considered to be defects. There are many species of wood available today, each with its own natural characteristics, which add to the beauty of the products. Your wood flooring will naturally undergo a change in color as it adjusts to the ambient light conditions within your home. Natural variations in color and grain are to be expected and are not considered to be a product defect. Some pre-finished wood floors are laminated (made up of several layers of hardwood with the top layer being stained and finished). Pre-finished wood is sanded and stained at the factory, so when installed, there may be a slight variation in the height between boards. A wood floor should be expected to show hairline cracks in and between boards. Until the wood has a chance to stabilize to the environment gapping may occur. Gapping in this case is normal. A space between each board is intentional (necessary for the expansion and contraction of wood due to temperature and moisture changes in the wood). Minor splintering and chipping is considered normal. Hollow Sounds: No sub-floor is perfectly level. Dips and ridges will remain in the sub-floor even after wood floor preparation. There may be hollow sounds where this condition occurs. This condition does not affect the structural integrity of the hardwood or the installation. Hollow sounds are considered normal and are not considered a product or installation defect. Note: Always follow the manufacturers recommended procedures for preventive maintenance and care maintenance.

10 Preventive Maintenance Put felt protector pads on the feet of all furniture and accessories that will be placed directly onto the floor surface. This allows movement without scuffing. Clean protector pads regularly as dirt can become embedded in them. Avoid plaster casters. Avoid letting sharp pointed objects come into contact with the floor surface. DO NOT walk on wood floor with high healed shoes, sports shoes or anything which may cause damage to the finish or cause indentations to the surface. Pets nails will scratch and mark the wood floor surface. Keep pets nails trimmed to minimize scratching and damage to surface of the floor. Do not drag, push or roll appliances, furniture or any heavy object across the floor. Use heavy duty moving mats or dollies to protect the floor surface. To ensure a uniform change in color of your wood floor, it is recommended that you do not place area rugs on the floor for 60 days after installation. Thereafter, periodic re-arrangement of furniture and area rugs will help ensure that your floor colors evenly. Care & Maintenance Sweep or vacuum (do not use a vacuum with a beater bar) the floor regularly to keep it clean and free of dust, sand and other abrasive materials. 60 days from installation, place area rugs or doormats at entryways to help prevent sand, grit, oils, dirt and other abrasive or staining materials from being tracked onto the wood floor from outdoors. Avoid rubberbacked rugs and carpets that may trap moisture between the mat and the floor. Place protective mats at high-use work areas such as sinks, ranges and other workstations. Protect the floor from any exposure to water or liquids. Immediately blot up any spilled water, liquid or food. DO NOT mop floor, use water jet sweepers or anything that puts large amounts of water on floor at one time when cleaning. DO NOT use any household cleaners, oils, soaps, waxes or any abrasive materials or scouring agents on the floor. Do not clean your wood floors with water or water-based products on a regular schedule. Retail stores carry wood floor care kits that can be used to clean your floors instead of vinegar and water, which will dull the finish over a period of time. Damage caused by wet mopping or any liquid or moisture is not covered by the product warranty. For a more thorough cleaning, use a wood floor cleaning solution approved by the manufacturer of your wood flooring. Follow the product instructions when cleaning. Failure to follow instructions may void warranty. Keep environmental conditions maintained with a temperature of degrees and humidity at 35-55% at all times. Excessive heat or dryness can result in gapping or splitting; excessive humidity can result in cupping. Gapping, splitting, cupping or other problems resulting from exposure to improper environmental conditions are not covered by product warranty. Buff to restore luster. Never wax or oil a surface finish! Once waxed or oiled, the floor will be unable to be merely re-coated, but will have to be completely sanded down to raw wood to restore the floor.

11 CARE OF WHITE TOPICAL STAIN HARDWOOD FLOORS Due to their light color, these floors will show the effects of dirt and traffic more than those with natural or dark-stained finish will. Therefore, they need more attention. Vacuum or sweep often. Wipe up spills immediately. Follow the maintenance recommended for the type of finish used. Another thing you may notice with this finish is tiny separations between the flooring strips during dry seasons or long heating periods. Wood expansion and contraction is determined by the amount of moisture in the air. When humidity levels are low, the flooring will contract and the separations will become more noticeable than at other times. The contrast of a white floor surface causes even tiny scratches to appear larger. This is normal and to be expected. Depending on the type of finish used (factory or on-the-job), the light-tinted or white floors may have some shading changes over time. The finish on white or pastel stained floors will appear to diminish or deteriorate faster than a natural stain, especially if in contact with water.

CARPET Most carpet manufactured today is produced in 12-foot widths and requires seaming. Carpet seams will be made using the best practices of the trade. Roll sizes will affect seam layouts. Seams cannot be guaranteed to be invisible, and the results will vary with different carpet textures, density and light situations. Some seams may show peaking characteristics. A carpet seam that has been joined together with hot melt tape and stretched will naturally peak. Time and normal traffic will help to alleviate this situation. Looped, Patterned, and Low-Profile Carpet These carpets are durable and unique; however, consumers should be aware that seams in looped, patterned and low profile carpet will be visible. Their prominence will vary depending on specific textures, colors, lighting and peaking. If installed on stairs, these carpets will appear to smile (backing will be visible). CARE OF YOUR NEW CARPET After Installation: Vacuum your carpet to remove loose fibers. You may notice a slight new smell which should dissipate within hours with proper ventilation. In the months following installation you may notice the following characteristics which are normal and will not affect your carpet s life in any way: Shedding These loose fibers are normal and subside within 3 to 6 months with vacuuming. You need to vacuum carpet 3-4 times per week. Sprouting A single tuft extending beyond the carpet surface usually along walls or seams. Simply clip off do NOT pull.

13 Pile reversal and shading This is when the same area of carpet may appear lighter when viewed from one direction and dark when viewed from another. Pile reversal and shading is caused by light being reflected in different ways as pile fibers bend in different directions. This is characteristic of plush carpet. Buckling and wrinkling May sometimes occur in wall-to-wall installations. If the ripples persist call your retailer, it may be necessary to professionally re-stretch the carpet. Maintenance You should vacuum properly and regularly. Promptly removing spills and providing long-term care for your carpet via deep cleaning will maintain the look of your carpet. Vacuum with the seams and not across seams. Air/Soil Filtration Air filtration or soil filtration is a phenomenon that occurs on the edge of walls and under doorways. Air circulation from air conditioning and/or ordinary airflow contains a substantial amount of soil and air pollution. These phenomena are not manufacturing defects but maintenance problems. These stains are among the most difficult to clean. We recommend professional cleaning. Pile Crush Pile crushing is most apparent in high traffic areas or in front of furniture. Soiling from shoes, animals and bare feet aggravates it. This characteristic is usually mistaken for wear. Pile crushing is not actually wear but gives the appearance due to the pile lying over. Although it cannot be eliminated regular vacuuming and brushing of the pile best minimizes the crushing. Regular Cleaning It is essential that you vacuum 3-4 times a week with a vacuum that has an adjustable beater bar. Make sure you keep your bags changed regularly. A good vacuum is one that features a strong motor or dual motors, a powerful airflow, a high-efficiency filtration, an internally housed vacuum bag and brush height adjustments for varying situations. Steam or chemical cleaning carpet can often alter the appearance and performance of carpet. Carpets must be cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner every months and homeowners must keep receipts for verification purposes. Protecting Against Stains Most of today s carpet is treated with special finishes to resist soil and stains. However, no carpet is entirely stain-proof. Most fiber manufacturers provide toll-free assistance for specific cleaning problems in the event of a spill. Stain-resistant finishes hold the spill on the fiber s surface giving you some time to absorb the liquid. Use removal techniques before the spill gets into the fibers. The longer you leave the spill the harder it will be to tackle. When cleaning carpet consult your manufacturer before adding additional stain protection. Stain protection applications do not make carpet stain-proof even though they increase the carpet s stain resistance capabilities. Usual precautions should be observed to maintain your carpet. 14 STAIN TREATMENTS The information on the following page will help you select a cleaning agent for emergency stain removal. Pre-test a small inconspicuous area to ensure the solution will not cause damage. With a clean white cloth gently work in the cleaning agent from the edges to the center of the spot. Blot thoroughly and repeat until the spot no longer transfers onto the cloth. Use clean water to remove any remaining cleaner residue and absorb remaining moisture with paper towel layers. When completely dry vacuum the pile to restore texture. Note: Some spills contain chemicals that may discolor or even damage carpet. About Laminate Floors Laminate flooring has become increasingly popular not only for the durability but also for the stain, fade, dent and scratch resistance they provide. Ease of maintenance has been one of laminate floors largest assets. They are very simple to maintain and require no special equipment. Laminate flooring is a perfect choice for the majority of flooring areas thru out your home although is not recommended in areas with standing water such as bathrooms and utility rooms. Routine Maintenance Never allow liquids to stand on the floor. Use a damp cloth to blot up liquid spills as soon as they occur otherwise they may seep into the joints causing them to become weakened or damaged. Delaminating can occur if water is left on floor for a long period of time. Sweep, dust mop or vacuum the floor regularly with the hard floor attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent accumulation of dirt and grit that can scratch or dull the floor finish. If using a dust mop be sure to clean or shake off the cloth head when finished. Periodically clean the floor with cleaning products made especially for laminate floor care. Most major laminate flooring manufacturers have their own cleaning kits with instructions. Do not wash or wet mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning detergent. This could cause swelling, warping, delaminating and joint-line separation and void the warranty. Spot spray a multi-purpose cleaner or manufactures recommended cleaner on soiled areas. Then wipe up. For tough spots such as shoe polish, nail polish, oil, paint, markers, lipstick, ink or tar, use acetone/nail polish remover on a clean white cloth then wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue. For spots such as chocolate, grease, juice or wine use warm water and a non abrasive household cleaner to remove. Candle wax or chewing gum should first be hardened with ice and gently scraped up with a blunt plastic scraper such as a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the flooring surface. NEVER clean floors with scouring powder, steel wool, strong ammoniated or chlorinated based cleaners or abrasive cleaners such as Comet or Ajax!

17 Do not use any type of wax floor polish or mop and shine type products on laminate floors. In addition do not use any type of buffing or polishing machine. PROTECTING YOUR LAMINATE FLOOR Use a natural or colorfast mat at all outside entrances to help collect dirt, sand, grit, and other substances such as oil, asphalt, or driveway sealer that could potentially be tracked onto the laminate floor. When using area rugs be sure to choose an area rug that is suitable for use with laminate flooring as there are some types that may cause discoloration. Be sure to use an approved vinyl rug underlayment to prevent slippage. Area rugs and carpet runners are recommended for use in high foot traffic areas. A rug should also be used to collect extra water in front of sinks or bathtubs. Use floor protectors and wide load bearing leg bases/rollers to minimize the chance of indentations and scratches from heavy objects. As a rule of thumb the heavier the item the wider the floor protector should be. Felt protector pads or fabric backed caster cups are recommended. Maintain a normal indoor relative humidity level between 35% and 65% throughout the year to minimize the natural expansion and contraction of the laminate floor which at its worst may cause buckling or unattractive gaps between the planks or tiles. o 1. Heating Season (Dry): A humidifier can be used to prevent excess shrinkage due to low humidity levels. Wood stoves and electric heat tend to create very dry conditions. 2. Non-Heating Season (Wet): An air conditioner, dehumidifier or periodically turning up your heating will help to maintain humidity levels during the summer months. Keep pets nails trimmed to prevent from scratching the laminate floor. A protective mat should be used for furniture or chairs with rolling casters. Never try to slide heavy objects across the floor. Always be sure to lift heavy items when repositioning them. If a piece of furniture is just to big or heavy to lift and the only option is to slide it across the floor then try placing rolled up or folded blankets beneath it first. Heavy appliances and furniture should be moved by using a dolly rolled over plywood or pressed wood. Repairing Your Laminate Flooring Laminate floors are especially durable. As with any hard surface flooring laminates can be scratched, nicked or dented. Minor repairs can be repaired using a flooring touchup kit. Most manufacturers will have touch up kits available. This special touch up kit is a filler material color coordinated to the color of your floor so that when used properly the repaired area is almost invisible. The repaired area will hold up to foot traffic and wear just like the rest of your laminate flooring. More serious damage may necessitate the need to replace several planks or tiles. The difficulty in doing so may differ from one brand to the next. If replacement becomes necessary it is recommended that you seek professional advice beforehand. The sheen and color of replaced planks or tiles may vary from the original.

About PLASTIC LAMINATE: Plastic laminate countertops are famous for their easy care. Laminate countertops are made from layers of paper and plastic that are laminated together to form the countertop surface. These countertops offer the widest array of patterns and colors of any surfacing material and are available in smooth, high gloss and textured finishes. CARING FOR YOUR PLASTIC LAMINATE 1. Wash surface with mild dishwashing liquid or powdered detergent and water using a soft cloth. Abrasive cleaners should not be used. Rinse with warm water and dry with a clean soft cloth. 2. For spots you can t remove using step 1 try an all-purpose cleaner or bathroom cleaner. Follow instructions on the bottle then rinse with warm water and dry with soft cloth. 3. For very stubborn spots make a paste with baking soda and water. Mix a 3:1 ratio of baking soda and water. The paste will be mildly abrasive so do not rub. Wipe up the paste with a clean, damp, non abrasive cotton cloth and then rinse with clean water. Repeat this process if necessary. 4. If the spot remains use undiluted household bleach. Apply to the spot and let stand no longer then 1-1/2 minutes. Rinse several times with warm water and dry with soft cloth. If spot seems to be going away repeat this process. PROTECTING YOUR PLASTIC LAMINATE DO NOT USE: Acidic cleaners, abrasive, pads, scouring powders or cleaners which may permanently dull and scratch and the laminate surface making it susceptible to staining. Always rinse laminate surface after cleaning. Failure to rinse after cleaning is the biggest cause of damage to a laminate surface. If a small amount of cleaning solution remains on the surface moisture from cups or dishes can re-activate it and result in permanently etched scars. Always rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a clean soft cloth. When rinsing do not flood the plastic laminate with excessive water especially near the seams since water can penetrate into the seam and cause the substrate to swell. Always use a cutting board, chopping block or protective surface. Do not chop, slice, pound or hammer on any laminate surface. Sharp knives will slice or scratch the surface marring its appearance and

19 lowering its resistance to stains and wear. Heavy blows with a hammer or meat tenderizer may crack or gouge the surface. Plastic Laminates are not stable when exposed to direct sunlight. Exposure can cause this sheet material to shrink and pull away at the seams. Seams that have separated can be repaired with matching color seam fill. Hot Objects: Cookware still hot from the stove, oven or microwave, as well as electric skillets, waffle irons, curling irons and hot rollers should not be placed directly on the laminate surfaces. Prolonged exposure to temperatures of 140 Degrees Fahrenheit (60 C) or higher may scorch the surface and may cause the laminate to separate from the core material. Avoid ironing or placing a hot iron on laminate surfaces. Do not place lighted cigarettes directly on laminate surfaces. Use a trivet, insulated hot pad or other protective device beneath all hot cookware, heat generating appliances or other heated objects. Ceramics, including unglazed materials and other abrasive objects can cause scratching and premature wear - do not slide these items across the surface. Laminate is sometimes used in areas where only occasional dusting is needed (no water areas). Keeping these surfaces beautiful is often easier if you use a non-oily furniture spray. Remember to clean the spray off several times a year to prevent build-up. Furniture polish can also help hide fine scratches in the surface that may appear with use. Certain foods and liquids are acidic: grape juice, citrus drinks, (O.J., grapefruit juice etc.) tomato juice etc. Prolonged exposure of these items may stain your new countertops. Chemical Damage: Never use cleaners containing acid, alkali, or sodium hypochlorite. These cleaners will mar, etch, corrode, and permanently discolor the laminate surface. Also, make sure that bottles, rags, and other materials contaminated with these cleaners never contact the laminate surface. Accidental spills or splatters of from these compounds should be wiped off immediately, and the area rinsed thoroughly with water. Examples of cleaners containing acid, alkali, or sodium hypochlorite include, but are not limited to: ceramic cooktop cleaners drain cleaners oven cleaners some disinfectants chlorine bleach lime scale removers rust removers toilet bowl cleaners coffee pot cleaners metal cleaners some countertop cleaners tub & tile cleaners Some materials and liquids, such as dyes and pharmaceutical products, will permanently stain laminate. Examples include: dermatological Mercurochrome Red-2B dye tar compounds hair dyes and rinses peroxides silver nitrate textile dyes laundry bluing povidone-iodine tannic acid These stains may be reduced by following steps 3 and 4 listed under: Caring for Your Laminate. Steel Wool will damage laminate. Do not use for cleaning and do not store steel wool on your countertop. The metal will rust and stain in addition to the risk of scratching the surface. High Gloss Finish Laminates: If residual streaks and smears remain after normal cleaning use a mild glass cleaner and dry with a clean non-abrasive cotton cloth. Avoid exterior glass cleaners. Matte, Sparkle, Sculpture and Dimensional Finish Laminates. These surfaces may require special attention to clean the depressed areas. Use a nylon-bristled hand or vegetable brush along with a mild liquid detergent-and-water solution or household cleaner. Clean the soiled area using a rotating motion. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.

About VINYL FLOORING: Over the years vinyl flooring has earned its place as the preferred flooring material for kitchens, bathrooms, playrooms and other high activity areas. High activity areas require more attention but the ease of cleaning and maintaining vinyl is very simple. The residential sheet vinyl now offers a No Wax variety minimizing the maintenance required. Immediately after Installation: Do not replace furniture or allow heavy traffic for at least 24 hours. Protect and do not disturb seams for 24 hours. Factory printing on the surface can be removed with a damp mop or sponge and mild detergent and water. Be careful not to wipe across the seams. The adhesive under your floor needs time to thoroughly dry after installation. Therefore it is recommended that you do not entirely wash or scrub your floor for 5 days. Maintain room temperature at 65 degrees for 48 hours. This will assure proper curing, setting and bonding of products. Routine Maintenance Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and grit that can scratch the floor. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar as it may cause visible damage to your floor. Wipe up all spills promptly and thoroughly with suitable mild detergent. Wash your floor when needed with the manufactures no-rinse floor cleaner. If you clean the floor with another cleaner other than the manufactures recommended cleaner use a mild detergent and be sure to rinse the floor with clean water after mopping with the detergent solution; residue from the detergent can form a sticky film on the vinyl that clouds the finish and attracts more dirt. Do not use any abrasive cleaners, steel wool or highly abrasive cleaning tools. Over time, flooring in high traffic areas and around chairs that are frequently moved (in an eating area, for example) may suffer a reduction of gloss. To restore the original appearance, apply 2-3 coats of a manufacturer recommended floor polish. Never use any type of paste wax or solvent-based polishes.

22 Protecting Your Vinyl Floor All sheet vinyl floors are susceptible to being torn or dented by heavy objects. Extreme care should be exercised when moving appliances and furniture. Never slide furniture across exposed floor. When moving heavy furniture or appliances, place plywood or hardboard panels on the floors and walk objects across the panels to avoid scratches. Use natural or colorfast doormats outside each entrance to your home to prevent dirt, sand, grit and other substances such as oil, asphalt and driveway sealer from being tracked onto your floor. When using area rugs be sure to choose an area rug that is suitable for use on vinyl floors. Do not put rubber-backed, latex backed or cocoa fiber mats on your floor because they will stain or damage the surface. A non-staining vinyl-backed mat or a woven rug that is colorfast is recommended. Use of proper rests, glides, or casters will keep furniture and appliances from scratching or indenting your floor. Metal domes and furniture rests with small, narrow surfaces should be replaced with wider, smooth, non-staining, protective load bearing devices. The following is a description of load types and recommended protection for each type: 1. Heavy Furniture (permanently positioned) - use glass or hard plastic caps with a minimum 1-1/2 bearing surface. 2. Frequently moved furniture (chairs, etc.) 2 diameter casters with soft, non staining ¾ rubber treads and easy ball bearing swiveling action. Double wheeled casters are recommended. 3. Light Furniture 1 to 1-1/8 inch glides with smooth, flat bases, rounded edges, and flexible pin to maintain floor contact. Damage from High Heels High heeled shoes can damage any type of flooring. Bear in mind that damage from high-heeled shoes is considered abuse and is not covered by warranty. Keeping shoe tips in good repair can help combat this problem. Protection from Extreme Heat: Appliances such as refrigerators and heating system ducts emit a direct flow of hot air. This condition may cause discoloration over time. Keeping refrigerators free of dust around motors and exhaust areas will greatly reduce build-up. Forced air heating system dampers should be adjusted to control outlet temperature and direction of airflow. Cigarettes, matches, and other hot objects dropped on your floor will also cause damage. Protection from Sunlight: Close your curtains or blinds where extreme sunlight heats the floor. A combination of heat and sunlight causes most home furnishings, including vinyl floor to fad and discolor. Removing Stains Rubber heel marks - Apply Fantastik or like cleaner and wipe with a clean, damp cloth. Some marks may require a small amount of mineral spirits* applied on a clean white cloth. Household stains such as blood, ketchup, mustard, fruit juice, rust, urine, excrement - Treat these stubborn stains with a 1-to-1 concentration of water to liquid bleach on a saturated cloth for up to one hour. Paints/solvents such as hair dye, lipstick, pen ink, iodine, nail polish, and oil-based paint - remove excess immediately and then rub the stain with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)* on a clean white cloth. If stain still shows apply mineral spirits* or turpentine* on a clean white cloth or very carefully wipe with fingernail polish remover containing acetone on a clean white cloth. Scrub the area with the manufactures floor cleaner and a non-abrasive white scrubbing pad. Misc. Stains (adhesives, asphalt, candle wax, grease, tar) These stains require that you scrape the residue away with a DULL knife. After wiping, lightly rub the area with a clean white cloth soaked in denatured alcohol (not the same as rubbing alcohol). Polish if necessary. Rust and Grass Rub with a soft cloth dipped in a solution of oxalic acid (available at most drug stores) and water (1 part acid to 10 parts water) to reduce or remove stains. Handle acid with proper precautions and instructions on label, as oxalic acid is poisonous.

23 Cigarette Burns No resilient floor is cigarette proof. Careful use of fine steel wool or cleaner will usually remove the scorch.
