By automatically controlling the snow melting system, this results in as little impact as possible both economically and environmentally. You mount the ETO2 controller under a roof. Product specification Ice is formed from a combination of moisture and low temperature. The ETO2 controller records both temperature and moisture, and only starts up when these two parameters have been recorded. The following is required for ETO2 to function properly: The snow melting system is equipped with a ground sensor ETOG 55 which measures soil temperature and moisture A sensor for the supply temperature, 24V transformer A sensor for the return temperature An actuator motor 0-10V The system stops if the ground sensor (ETOG 55) should fail. Ambient humidity Weight 10 95% 600g IP Class IP20 dimensions (H/W/D) 90/156/45 mm Thermotech Company Group Phone: +46 (0) , Thermotech Scandinavia AB fulfils the ISO standards for quality- and environment management. Certifierad ISO 9001 ISO IG (8)
2 ETO 2 - Installation of ground sensor Practical instructions For the best operation, the ground sensor (1) should be installed at a location that is representative of the surface to be heated, which is where most snow and water normally accumulates. With the aid of the included mounting plates (2), the sensor should be installed horizontally with its upper edge level with the surrounding surface. Because of the loads that the sensor may be subjected to in the form of vehicle traffic, it should be mounted onto a stable surface and cemented in place. Connect the sensor cable When connecting the sensor cable, it is important to lay the cable in cable conduits not adjacent to other live equipment, which could interfere with the signal from the sensor. The sensor is supplied with 10 metres of cable, which can be extended up to 200 metres with installation cable 6 x 1.5 mm 2. The total resistance may not exceed 10 ohms. If the sensor cable is spliced, the splice should be in an accessible terminal block. Leave a hole for the ground sensor that is around Ø75 mm, so that there is sufficient room to cement the sensor in place. You should position the ground sensors so that a slight incline towards the sensor is created. This ensures that snow melted by the heating element itself in the sensor will flow towards the sensor. Otherwise, the sensor will mistakenly register that the ground surface is snow-free (8)

4 ETO 2 - Start-up and settings Start-up Selection of temperature scale When ETO2 firsts starts up, you must choose the temperature scale you want it to display, Celsius or Fahrenheit. This is done by turning the adjustment knob until the correct temperature scale is indicated. Pressing the adjustment knob approves your selection. Choice of sensors ETO2 has the option of using two sensors.sensor 1 is the primary sensor. If you need to measure in several places, you can also connect sensor 2. Sensor 1 Turn the adjustment knob until Sensor 1 appears in the display. Choose the type of sensor to activate. ETOG: Ground sensor (most common for snow melting) ETOR: Outdoor sensor (air sensor) Pressing the adjustment knob approves your selection. Sensor 2 Turn the adjustment knob until Sensor 2 appears in the display. Choose the type of sensor to activate. : When no other sensor is installed. ETOG: Ground sensor (most common for snow melting). ETOR: Outdoor sensor (air sensor). Pressing the adjustment knob approves your selection. Outdoor Sensor An air sensor for sensing outdoors. : ETF: When no other sensor is installed. Selected when the outdoor sensor ETF is connected to terminals Pressing the adjustment knob approves your selection. Application Turn the adjustment knob until Application is displayed. Choose the setting that is appropriate. Pressing the adjustment knob approves your selection. ELECTRIC 1-ZONE: Used for hydronic underfloor heating when the water temperature is not controlled, the system is turned on/off via a circulation pump. This is the most common control mode and is recommended in most cases. ELECTRIC 2-ZONE: Used for electrical ground heating. ELECTRIC 2-STEP: Used for electrical ground heating. WATER BASED: An actuator is connected to the controller and maintains a minimum water temperature in the ground coil. If sensors in the ground detect moisture and the outdoor temperature falls below the set value, the water temperature rises to the maximum water set value. Note: This mode may involve high energy consumption in cold climates, as the temperature in the ground is kept at a low level throughout the winter. Select the appropriate setting. Pressing the adjustment knob approves your selection. The system is now set to operate automatically with a preset standard (Factory settings). Alternative settings can be made, see section Settings below. Information on the status and operating time after shutdown for zone 1 and zone 2 will now appear in the display. Settings ETO2 is fitted with an easy-to-use programming button (turn & push) and a display that shows the current programming. This has an illuminated display which is lit by pressing in the adjustment knob. The screen turns off automatically after 30 seconds. TEMP 2 Set a minimum temperature below which the system goes into Stand-by mode for zone 2. Can be set as low as -20 C. AFTERRUN 1 0,30 h Here you set the time that the melting systems should be operational after the ground sensor ETOG 55 (1) has stopped transmitting, i.e. when heat is no longer required in the snow melting system. The period of operation after shut-down can be set from 0-6 hours. AFTERRUN 2 0,30 h Here you set the time that the melting systems should be operational after the ground sensor ETOG 55 (2) has stopped transmitting, i.e. when heat is no longer required in the snow melting system. The period of operation after shut-down can be set from 0-6 hours. SET T1 0,0 C You can calibrate the temperature for zone 1 to ensure the correct temperature is displayed. With a measuring instrument you measure the exact temperature in the ground, and then adjust the temperature as recorded by ETOG Set the measured temperature and press OK. SET T2 0,0 C You can calibrate the temperature for zone 2 to ensure the correct temperature is displayed. With a measuring instrument you measure the exact temperature in the ground, and then adjust the temperature as recorded by ETOG 55 (2). Set the measured temperature and press OK. SET OUT 0,0 C You can calibrate the outdoor temperature to ensure the correct temperature is displayed. With a measuring instrument you measure the exact temperature in the air, and then adjust the temperature as recorded by ETF. Set the measured temperature and press OK. MIN WATER 5,0 C Here you set the minimum water temperature for the snow melting system. Set the required return temperature and press OK. This setting can only be made when there is a hydronic system. When the temperature drops below the set value and no ice or snow (moisture) is recorded, the snow melting system starts up and runs for 1 minute every other 15th minute to record if the return temperature has gone below the set MIN WATER value. If that is the case, the snow melting system is fully activated to rise the return temperature above the set MIN WATER value. If you do not want to maintain a constant temperature in the ground, a resistor of 10 kω is mounted in the ground between terminals 29 and 30. This makes the system believe it is 10 C in the ground coil. If you do not have a glycol mixture, you must use the water minimum temperature sensor in cases where there is a risk of freezing. Its task is to maintain a minimum temperature in the system. 5(8)
6 ETO 2 - Start-up and settings MAX WATER 55,0 C Here you set the maximum water temperature for the snow melting system. Set the required supply temperature (40-55 C) and press OK. This setting can only be made when there is a hydronic system. When the measured temperature is equal to the set value, the actuator motor will close the valve. If ETOG continues to call for heat, the system will open when the measured value falls below the set value. SENSOR HEAT AUTO In AUTO mode, the heating element in the ground sensor is turned off when heating occurs. If the system is working under extreme conditions, the heating element can be active all the time by selecting ON instead of AUTO. MOIST CTRL ON Here, the moisture control can be turned off by selecting from the menu. In this way, only the setpoint, SET TEMP, will control the heating. FACTORY RESET Resets all input data to the default setting from the factory. EXIT ETO2 If you select EXIT, you skip the reset of the system and return to the main menu. REINSTALL Reinstalls the system. Used if the system is not functioning correctly or if the hardware has changed. Main data must then be modified to ensure you have settings that work for the system. Select Reinstall and Password. You bring up the password by turning the adjustment knob. The code for factory setting is: This will reboot the system and the program starts in STARTUP mode. SENSITIVITY NORM The sensitivity of the sensor can be set in 5 steps: MIN - For salted roads/surfaces. LOW - For soiled snow. NORM - For differenst types of snow HIGH - For white snow.
