3 Coolerado System Please read the Coolerado installation manual for full product details, warning, recommendations and descriptions. Identifying Your System Take the time to familiarize yourself with the type of system you have. This knowledge will be of use in understanding the basic operation of your new air conditioner. The type of system you have purchased is a self contained indirect evaporative air conditioner using a patented HMX heat exchange process. The system will either be placed indoors or as an outdoor unit. Outside air is pulled through the unit, processed through the heat exchanger to provide cooling to the desired space. A separate working air discharge completes the unit s air flow needs. The system is connected to a thermostat which will call for cooling when needed. Each unit has a rating plate affixed to it which provides necessary information for specific identification of a unit. You should familiarize yourself with the product, model, and serial numbers listed on each rating plate. Record them for future reference on the first page of this booklet. Have the installing contractor identify and explain your systems location, air flows, filters, water system, and electrical disconnects. Your installation contractor should go over the systems operation and preventative maintenance scheduled outlined in this manual. Routine preventative maintenance must be accomplished to ensure your system operates at its highest efficiency and to ensure years of reliable service. 5 M30 Product Overview Ideal for modular installations by placing units side by side, and is shorter than the M50. It delivers up to 3 tons (10.5 kw) of cooling capacity*, and draws a maximum of 600 watts of power at full flow. The conditioned air is cooled without added humidity. The fan is sized to handle most ducted applications and will deliver 900 CFM (1529 CMH / 425 L/S) of conditioned air. The filters in this unit are removed from the front above the fan. The unit weighs 240 lbs (108 kg) dry (shipping), and approx. 270 lbs (122 kg) wet (operating). M50A Delivers up to 5 tons (17.6 kw) of cooling capacity*, and draws a maximum of 750 watts of power at full flow. The conditioned air is cooled without added humidity. The fan is sized to handle most ducted applications and will deliver 1,350 CFM ( 2,294 CMH / 635 L/S) of conditioned air. The filters in this unit are removed from the front above the fan. The unit weighs 370 lbs ( 168 kg) dry (shipping), and approx. 420 lbs ( 190 kg) wet (operating). C60 Delivers up to 6 tons (21.1 kw) of cooling capacity*, and draws a maximum of 750 watts of power at full flow. The conditioned air is cooled without added humidity. The fan is sized to handle most ducted applications and will deliver 1,670 CFM (2837 CMH / 788 L/S) of conditioned air. The filters in this unit are removed from the side. The unit weighs 375 lbs (170 kg) dry (shipping), 475 lbs (215 kg) wet (operating) *Cooling capacity depends on the ambient wet bulb and dry bulb conditions. Unit capacity indicated above is based on a very high dry bulb temperature and a very low wet bulb temperature. Basic Operation Coolerado Air Conditioners use the patented Maisotsenko Cycle to cool air in the HMX (Heat and Mass Exchanger). A fan blows air through the HMX, diverting the air into two air streams, the Conditioned Air Stream and the Working Air Stream. Water is injected into the HMX and is evaporated into the Working Air Stream. A small amount of excess water, used to maintain the cleanliness of the HMX, is drained away through the front drain outlet. Additionally, some water vapor in the Working Air exhaust is condensed inside the unit after cooling, and this water also runs to the drain. This evaporation process cools a membrane and indirectly cools the Conditioned Air Stream, thus no moisture is added to the Conditioned Air. This process is ideally suited for dry climates. In dry climates this product can be used for comfort cooling and in more humid climates it can be used for pre-cooling make-up air. This product allows the use of Displacement Cooling Techniques to increase the effectiveness of the overall cooling process. By correctly applying the Coolerado Air Conditioner and Displacement Cooling techniques a power savings of up to 90% can be realized. Humidity Affect The Coolerado HMX is cooled using a unique evaporative cooling cycle that is based on the evaporation of water in a multi-stage, indirect system and does not add moisture to the Conditioned Air Stream. The cooling temperature of the HMX is based on Wet Bulb Temperatures and typically produces Conditioned Air at 2-4 o F (1 3 o C) above the Inlet Air Stream wet bulb temperature, but can deliver temperatures below wet bulb at lower fan speeds. 6 Important Facts To better protect your investment and to eliminate unnecessary service calls, familiarize yourself with the following: Your Coolerado system should never be operated without a clean air filter properly installed. Plan to inspect the filter monthly. Since the unit uses 100% outdoor air the filters will need to be changed more often than standard HVAC systems that do not use 100% outdoor air. A clogged air filter will increase operating costs by reducing efficiency and could potentially impact system durability. Supply-air and return-air registers should not be blocked. Drapes, furniture, and machinery are some of the items commonly found obstructing registers. Restricted airflow lessens the unit s efficiency and life span. The unit must have unrestricted airflow. Do not cover the unit, lean anything against it, enclose it or stand on it. Do not allow grass clippings, leaves, or other debris to accumulate around or on top of the unit. Maintain a 24-inch (600 mm). minimum clearance between the outdoor unit and tall grass, vines, shrubs, etc. Your indoor thermostat is the control center for your Coolerado system. You should familiarize yourself with its proper operation and comfort settings. Warning: Attempting to control the system by other means for instance, switching the electrical supply power ON and OFF may cause damage to the unit, excessive soap use, bubbles every time it comes on, drying out and scale buildup in the HMX s. Periodically inspect the systems water supply. Ensure that the systems water supply valve is fully open and that the inline water filtration cartridge is clean and free of debris. Depending on the water used the filter cartridge can generally be changed annually. The unit must have an adequate supply of fresh potable water in the range of 25 to 80 psi dynamic pressure, (when the water is on.) A pressure less than 25 psi will not allow the unit to operate. Pressures greater than 80 psi could damage the unit and void the warranty. Hard Water; see Water Quality below, (must be treated with a sodium based water softener.) The unit must remain level and well supported for proper operation. Keep any protective intake or working air protective screens free of debris. Seasonal start up and shutdown procedures must be performed on your Coolerado System before and after the cooling season. Your new system uses a surfactant fluid, liquid dish washing soap, to wet out the heat exchanger media. Once the heat and mass exchangers are wetted out they will stay wet as long as they have adequate water; no additional surfactant is needed unless dried out. Drying out for winter shutdown is planned however there could be other instances that cause the HMX s to dry out such as defective water solenoid, pressure regulator or water control board. Inspections of the surfactant level may be needed before wetting out the unit. Note: Multiple power failures or power turning off and on will cause the surfactant pump to run depleting the surfactant. Be sure to contact your servicing dealer for any questions or concerns about performing the recommended preventative maintenance, or seasonal shut-down / start-up procedures. Page of 20

7 Follow all safety precautions outlined in the installation manual prior to performing any procedure. Preventative Maintenance Read these instructions thoroughly and follow all warnings or cautions included in literature and attached to the unit. Recognize safety information, symbols and words: DANGER! Identifies serious hazards which will result in severe personal injury or death. CAUTION! Identifies unsafe practices which would result in minor personal injury, poor unit performance, product damage and/or property damage. NOTE! Highlights suggestions which will result in enhanced installation, reliability, or operation. Care and Maintenance For continuing high performance, and to minimize possible equipment failure, periodic maintenance must be performed on this equipment. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending upon geographic areas, such as high dust, pollen or air pollution. Pay close attention to cleanliness of the unit s filters and heat exchangers. CAUTION: Failure to follow these instructions will shorten the life of your heat exchanger and result in poor performance of your system. Fan Maintenance Inspect all fan parts including air intake, blades, motor and shroud as well as for free movement. The inspection frequency is determined by the severity of the application and local conditions. Strict adherence to an inspection schedule is essential. The location of the unit will determine how often you should inspect your air system. Full inspection should be accomplished during seasonal start-up and during winter shutdown periods. If operating in areas with excessive dust, cotton, pollen, leaves, or insects should perform inspection steps more frequently. Regular fan maintenance should include the following: Check the fan blades for any wear or corrosion, as either could cause catastrophic failures. Inspect for any air flow restrictions around system intake, conditioned and working air ducts and diffusers Check for the accumulation of material on the impeller surfaces, which could cause imbalance, resulting in vibration, excess noise, and premature bearing wear. Clean or replace the wheel as required. During any maintenance, all bolts should be checked for tightness. Unit Support Your unit should be maintained at a level and well supported position for proper operation. If the unit should shift or settle so that it is no longer level, you should contact your dealer and get it re-leveled promptly to assure proper operation, efficiency and durability. The unit should be level to no more than 1/16 per foot (1.5 mm per 300 mm) side to side and front to back. Water System Water delivery devices and piping should be inspected to insure proper water flow. This includes all pipes leading to the air conditioner as well as the internal tubes that deliver water to the heat exchangers. Turn off fan with fan switch mounted on the top front of M30 or C60 units; M50A has a magnetic door switch that will shut the fan off when the access door is removed. Check the water supply system for leaks, and repair if needed. Any leaks should be repaired immediately to assure proper water delivery to the unit. With the air filters removed, check the internal tubes of the water distribution system for leaks. Proper and consistent Page of 20

8 water flow is essential for efficient and proper unit operation. Water overflowing from the top of the drain pan may indicate that the drain is partially plugged. If this is the case, remove the elbow from the bottom of the drain pan and clean. Caution: The water pressure must be maintained between 25 psi and 80 psi. Below 25 psi the fan will turn off automatically to prevent drying out of Heat and Mass Exchangers. Note: Failure to maintain consistent water pressure more than 25 psi or less than 80 psi will void warranty. Water Quality Water quality can be difficult to quantify as there are different factors that must be considered. To ensure proper performance of the Heat and Mass Exchangers (HMXs), prolong the life of equipment components and to avoid increased maintenance, the below water criteria must be considered and evaluated before installation. Solids: All water supplies have the potential to have un-dissolved solids from water line repairs, additions and maintenance. Solids in the water supply must be filtered out when above 30 microns to prevent plugging of the water distribution system or Heat and Mass Exchangers (HMXs). Coolerado supplies 30 micron water filters with each unit. Installation of the Coolerado supplied 30 micron filter or equivalent is required on all installations to filter un-dissolved solids. Organics: Coolerado s HMX plate material is manufactured with polypropylene that is not a food source for molds; the plate material also has a biocide impregnated into it to prevent organics from growing. Typically the biocide supplied from a potable water supply district will be enough to prevent any mold growth. However, if supply water that does not contain biocides is being used, like well water, both the air and maybe the water will have organics that can sustain molds, generally in the form of a slime that can grow in the water distribution system and on the wet portion of the HMX plate surface. In these cases a biocide such as chlorine may be required. Temperature: When water is heated dissolved minerals like calcium will come out of solution and form scale; the reason hot water heaters and pipes build up scale. For this reason we recommend water supply pipes to the Coolerado units be kept in cool places or insulated when exposed to the sun. Dissolved minerals: There are a lot of dissolved minerals in water, however we are most concerned with the hardness of water made up mostly of calcium but can include magnesium. Hard water causes two problems, the first it prevents soap from creating suds and leaves soap scum on sinks etc. The second and maybe the bigger problem for any evaporative equipment is the formation of scaling most generally in the form of calcium carbonate; (the magnesium will stay in solution under much higher concentrations). Calcium carbonate can close off water lines, collapse cooling towers from the weight of scale build up and in general cause many problems. The key here is the amount of calcium water hardness. In low quantities of hard water is not a problem. How hard water is generally defined as: Classification Hardness in mg/l or PPM Soft 0-60 Moderately Hard Hard Very Hard > 180 Water that is Moderately Hard or greater should be treated with a sodium based water softener. Coolerado cannot know the details of your water supply and therefore how the water will react with our water delivery system. The water should be tested to properly address any water quality concerns, contact your local water utility to determine the total harness of your water or have the water tested at a water laboratory. 9 Heat Exchangers: Each heat exchanger should be visually inspected when the air filters are replaced. If any debris is found it should be removed. If the heat exchangers appear to be damaged in any way contact your local representative. At the end of the cooling season, after the heat exchangers are dried out, the exhaust sides of the exchanger can be inspected for mineral buildup. A hard crust of minerals indicates excessive mineral buildup. If a water softener is not installed it may be needed. Air Filters: The C60 requires four 2 x 20 x 25 (50 mm x 500 mm x 625 mm) pleated MERV 8 filters. The M50A requires three 2 x 20 x 25 (50 mm x 500 mm x 625 mm) pleated MERV 8 filters. The M30 requires two 2 x 20 x 25 (50 mm x 500 mm x 625 mm) pleated MERV 8 filters. One 1 (25 mm) thick filter can be used in place of a 2 / 50 mm filters. Caution: Do not use two 1 (25 mm) filters in series as the pressure drop will be too high, see Figure 4. The filters should be changed regularly to ensure proper airflow through the system. If the system is located in an area where there are higher levels of airborne debris such as pollen, leaves, dust or insects, in which case the filters should be inspected more often. Inspect the filters periodically during the cooling season and replace with new filters as required. Filter image, Figure 4 NOTE: One 1 (25 mm) thick filter can be used in place of 2 ( 50 mm) filters but will need to be changed twice as often. CAUTION: Do not substitute the recommended 2 (50mm) filter with two 1 (25 mm) filters, this will significantly reduce the airflow through the unit. See Figure 4 M30 Filter Changing Procedure: Turn off fan toggle switch located at top left front face of unit and wait until the fan has come to a stop. Remove the filter access cover on the front of the unit above the air inlet. Be careful not to over tighten the machine screws that hold the cover in place. Slide the top filter all the way to the top of the filter frame. It should hold itself in place with a small clip at the top and not slide down. If it doesn t then use a small piece of tape to hold it in place. If the top filter doesn t hold in the up position there is not enough room to hold it in place with your hand and still get the lower filter out. Slide the bottom filter up and pull the top towards the fan and out of the unit. Slide the top filter down and remove it just as the lower filter was removed. Reverse this process to re-install the filters. Re-install the filter access cover and Page of 20

10 Turn the fan control switch on. M50A Filter Changing Procedure: Remove the filter access cover on the front of the unit above the air inlet. A magnetic door switch on the access cover will shut the fan down automatically. Slide the top filter all the way to the top of the filter frame. Pull the bottom of the filter towards the fan and drop the filter until the top of the filter clears the M50 cabinet. Lift the filter out of the unit. The middle and bottom filters can now be lifted up and out of the filter frame. Reverse this process to re-install the filters. Re-install the filter access cover and the fan will turn on if there is a cool call. Filter Flow Arrow, Figure 3 DANGER: Do not expose the intake air to flammable liquids or vapors. If Side Mounted Exhaust Louvers are installed: If side louvers are installed, inspect the inside pad that prevent water droplets from blowing through the louvers. This can be done by simply looking through the louvers. If there is significant mineral buildup that would block air flow the louvers should be removed and the internal pad replaced. This pad material is commonly used in direct evaporative cooling units for water distribution and is generally green in color. It is available at most building material suppliers. (The unit will have a top mounted duct connection for the working air if the side mounted louvers are not used.) Figure 2 side mounted louvers Initial Wetting of Coolerado Air Conditioners The unit s are equipped with a self wetting system that is initiated when the unit is powered up, for seasonal restart, or any other time that the heat exchangers have dried out. 11 Figure 3 Surfactant Reservoir NOTE: It is recommended to check surfactant levels during filter inspections, if needed add Dawn or Palmolive liquid dishwashing detergent. NOTE: At any time that the unit has been dried out, such as after winterization or vacation shut-off, it is imperative to add a surfactant to the water supply to allow the air conditioner heat exchangers to fully wet out. After the heat exchangers have been wet out, water will distribute itself evenly until the heat exchangers are dried due to the water being turned off, or power being turned off for an extended period of time. When the unit is powered up and a cooling call is made from the thermostat, the water control board has been programmed to engage the fan, solenoid valve, and the surfactant pump. After 2.5 minutes the water and surfactant will be turned off for 10 minutes. The water control board will then cycle the water on for 30 seconds and off for 2 minutes repeating this over a 42 minute period. The fan will run at half speed during this time. The water control will then be regulated according to outside temperature, humidity, dynamic water pressure at the unit (water flow), as well as the fan speed and control settings. NOTE: If there is excessive soap in the unit at start up it may take a day to get all the bubbles out and the temperature to come down to normal operation. If the conditioned air temperature (dry bulb) is more than 4 o F (3 o C) above the inlet wet bulb after 24 hours of running, manually turn the water off and let unit run for 20 to 45 minutes depending on the outside temperature, (hotter shorter time). Turn off the power to the unit for 15 seconds, turn water back on, and repower to allow the wetting process to start over. Because of the partially wet HMX s and recent wetting out there may be a lot of bubbles that come out of the unit. During normal operation, the thermostats cooling call will activate the water control board. The fan and the water cycle will start initially for 2 minutes, then off for 2 minutes. This process is necessary to maintain the unit s evaporation rate and mineral flush requirements. Without a cooling call for a period of 1 hour, the water control board will douse the heat exchanger with fresh water to ensure the heat exchanger remains saturated. The water will cycle on for 2 minutes, then off for an hour starting a new cycle. If the thermostat cycles or user turns off the air conditioner and then cycles back on in less than 2 minutes, the fan and water will not come on for 2 minutes from the time the unit is turned off to prevent short cycling. Note: Do not dry heat exchangers at night by turning off the water, bypassing the low water pressure switch and running the blower using only cool night air. Doing so on a daily basis will allow mineral deposits to build-up, and the wetting procedure outlined in the installation manual will need to be repeated. This will void the warranty. Operating Your Coolerado System thermostat Page of 20

12 The operation of your Coolerado system is controlled by the indoor thermostat. You simply adjust the thermostat and it maintains the indoor temperature at the level you select. Most thermostats for heat pump systems have three controls: a TEMPERATURE control selector, a FAN control, and a SYSTEM or MODE control. Most thermostats can be configured to provide both heating and cooling operation, speak to your installation contractor about your thermostat features and benefits. Coolerado has an optional thermostat, model TEC2145-4, that will vary the fan speed based on the set point indoor temperature. This makes the fan variable speed optimizing your systems performance. This is a cooling only thermostat, (heating is possible but requires a change over sensor and relay that Coolerado does not provide nor supports in any way). NOTE: If using a thermostat or building control other than the recommended TEC2145-4, see thermostat instruction manual or consult with your installation contractor. Page of 20

13 Thermostat Operation Overview with Recommended Programming for the TEC Thermostat Front Cover of Thermostat NOTE: This thermostat will start the fan at the cool call set point temperature and ramp up to full speed with a 1 O F room temperature rise. Thermostat User Interface Keys The TEC Thermostat user interface consists of five keys on the front cover. The function of each key is as follows: MODE key toggles among the system modes OFF and Cool FAN key toggles among ON and AUTO for fan control. This should be left on AUTO. OVERRIDE key has been deactivated with Coolerado settings. See the Configuring the TEC Thermostat section in the Johnson Control manual for reprogramming. Backlit LCD UP/DOWN arrow keys adjust the configuration parameters and activate a set point adjustment. The TEC Thermostat includes a 2-line, 8-character backlit display. Low-level backlighting is present during normal operation, and it brightens when any user interface key is pressed. The backlight returns to low level when the thermostat is left unattended for 45 seconds. LEDs Three LEDs are included to indicate the fan status, call for heat, or call for cooling: The FAN LED is deactivated. The HEAT LED is on deactivated. The COOL LED is on when cooling is on. Status Display Menu The Status Display Menu is displayed during normal thermostat operation. This menu continuously scrolls through the following Coolerado set parameters: Room Temperature System Mode Page of 20

14 Seasonal Shut Down NOTE: Failure to follow the following seasonal shut down procedures may result in reduced performance to the heat exchangers and may cause equipment damage. 1. Inspect the unit to make sure that all safety devices and other parts are secure. 2. Turn the manual water supply valve off upstream of the pressure regulator/solenoid valve assembly. 3. Open the water supply line drain valve at the Tee and drain off water in line. 4. Close the supply duct dampers and/or install off-season duct blocking devices. 5. Leave the exhaust louvers open so the unit will dry out. 6. Close off the building barometric damper for the winter according to the manufacturer s instructions. 7. Set the thermostat to heating or to the Off position. Seasonal Start-Up Procedure 1. Inspect the unit to make sure that all safety devices and other parts are secure. 2. Install new water filter cartridge, (minimum of 30 micron.) 3. If needed vacuum out intake air plenum. 4. Check the level of surfactant in the wetting system. Top off the reservoir with Dawn or Palmolive dishwashing detergent, if necessary. 5. Install new air filters. 6. Check that the units fan will free spin by turning by hand 7. Turn on the supply water and verify there are no leaks. Water pressure must be between 25 and 80 psi dynamic pressure, (when the water is running.) 8. Open the cooled air-supply (or conditioned air) damper and/or remove any air blocks that were used to winterize the air conditioner. 9. Turn on the power. 10. Set the thermostat to a low temperature to get a cool call and start the unit. The water will begin to fill the cooling system. The first fill will take about an hour to completely wet the heat exchangers if the temperature is about 75 0 F (24 0 C) outside, 4 hours or longer if about F (38 0 C) outside. If the thermostat is not calling for cooling, the heat exchangers may not fully saturate with water at this point. The Air conditioner will fully wet-out when the thermostat calls for cooling. Please be aware that the water will cycle off for 2 minutes and then turn back on based on the outside temperature and humidity and air flow rate. During the seasonal start-up or when the power is turned off and back on there will be soap bubbles coming out of either the side mounted louvers or the top mounted working air duct. This is normal and soap bubbles will dissipate in an hour or two. If there is a lot of soap in the unit at start up it may take a day get all the bubbles out and the temperature to come down to normal operation. NOTE: When the thermostat is turned Off the fan may not come on again for 2 minutes to prevent fan short cycling. Page of 20

15 HMX Cleaning This procedure assists in the general cleaning and preventive maintenance of Coolerado Heat & Mass Exchangers (HMXs) and should be performed by a factory trained Coolerado technician. The frequency of this procedure should be determined by your servicing contractor and will be directly influenced by environmental operating conditions, such as water hardness and outside air quality. If you are experiencing other mechanical or performance issues with your equipment please contact your local Coolerado distributor immediately. Necessary Tools: 5/16 nut driver Flexible extension for nut driver Soft Nylon Brush Garden Hose with Spray nozzle 50ml syringe with luer lock DANGER! Ensure that the power is properly disconnect before servicing the unit(s) and working with water around the motor and high voltage wiring. 1. Disconnect power at the unit(s) or at the breaker panel servicing the unit. 2. Depending on the unit to be serviced, turn handles counter clockwise and remove air filter access panel or use a 5/16 nut driver to remove the two (2) nuts. Page of 20

16 3. Remove outside air inlet plenum for access to HMX front face by removing the four (4) nuts using a 5/16 nut driver or clips as appropriate for the model being serviced. 4. Remove air filters by sliding them up and then out of the unit. 5. Spray the entire front face of each HMX with non diluted white or distilled vinegar. NOTE! Use as much non-diluted white or distilled vinegar as needed to thoroughly coat each HMX face entirely, taking special care to spray vinegar directly into working air channels (shown below). 17 Working Air CAUTION! Do not use high water pressure or a pressure washer when washing down the HMX. Use only light hand pressure with a soft nylon brush to prevent damage to the HMXs. Using high pressure or a heavy brush could remove the epoxy coating on the HMX causing leaks. NOTE! Be sure to spray water directly into the working air channels of the HMX. Working Air 6. With a soft nylon brush and garden hose with spray nozzle, wash down the HMX removing all dirt, debris and mineral build up. 7. Inspect and clean the fan and other components with a dry rag or damp cloth avoiding contact with any electrical elements. Page of 20

18 8. Wash out the bottom of the cabinet with a hose, ensuring the inlet drain holes are draining freely. Inlet Drain Holes 9. Reconnect all water supply tubing to HMX nipples and header. 10. Ensure the bottle is full of liquid dish soap. 11. Install new, clean air filters. 12. Reattach inlet plenum. 13. Reattach filter access door by sliding it on and then turning the handles clockwise or reattach the two (2) 5/16 nuts. 14. Remove surfactant pump and control card access covers. If the HMX s are still saturated with water after servicing the HMXs, disconnect the single spade wire from the primer switch, turn on the power and cool call, wait three (3) minutes (the amount of time the soap would run during normal startup) then replace the single spade wire on the primer switch. 19 HMX Face Plate Cleaning, Only If Needed NOTE! In some cases it may be necessary to service the HMX face plate and nipples. Blockage of the HMX face plate can be caused by soap being introduced into the system with no water. If you suspect your unit has had surfactant introduced into the system with no water, complete the below steps to clean hardened soap out the HMX nipples. CAUTION! Do not proceed with steps 9 through 12 before reading the above note. Frequent service of the header assembly and HMX nipples can cause water leaking at the header and damage to the HMX. CAUTION! Exercise care when removing water supply tubing from HMX nipples and header assembly to prevent damage to the HMX. Damage to the HMX nipples will cause you to have to replace the entire HMX. Water Supply Tubing Removed 1. Remove water supply tubing from each HMX by pulling directly away from the nipple it is attached to, not at an angle. You may have to apply minor force to separate the tubing from the nipple. 2. Remove the other end of the tubing from the header at the top of the unit. 3. Fill syringe with vinegar and then attach syringe and blue tubing to HMX nipple. NOTE! To service the HMX nipples, use a 50ml syringe with luer lock. Fill the syringe with non-diluted distilled or white vinegar. Use as much vinegar as need until all blocking particles are removed. Attached To Nipple HMX Nipple 4. Quickly push in and pull out on the syringe plunger, pulling blocking particles out of the HMX nipple. Hold the plunger of the syringe lower than the inlet or tube end allowing heavy particles to collect in the syringe. Note that the longer the tube the longer the syringe strokes must be to remove the particles from the nipple. Repeat steps 9 thru 12 for each HMX nipple. Page of 20

20 Coolerado Corporation Limited Warranty Coolerado Corporation ( Coolerado ) makes the following LIMITED WARRANTY with respect to its air conditioners (the Products ): Patented HMXs (Heat-Mass Exchangers) for a period of three (3) years from the date of installation, or three (3) years plus six (6) months from shipment date from Coolerado, whichever results in a shorter warranty period. All Other parts for a period of one (1) year from the date of installation, or (1) one year plus six (6) months from shipment date from Coolerado, whichever results in a shorter warranty period. Coolerado warrants to the original buyer ( Buyer ) of its Products, subject to the conditions and exclusions set forth below, that the Products will be free from defects in material and workmanship (the Limited Warranty ). Coolerado s sole obligation under this Limited Warranty (i) is subject to Coolerado receiving proper notification from Buyer, via Coolerado s website at or sent via U.S. mail to Coolerado Corporation, ATTN: Limited Warranty Claims, 4430 Glencoe Street, Denver, Colorado 80216, stating in detail the defect of the Product and the claim made under the Limited Warranty and (ii) is solely limited to repair or replacement by Coolerado, at its option, of any Product determined by Coolerado, in its sole discretion, to be defective. Buyer must notify Coolerado in accordance with this paragraph at least sixty (60) days before pursuing any legal rights or remedies available to Buyer. Buyer shall be responsible for and shall pay shipping costs to and from Coolerado (FOB factory) for such Product, and/or for the shipping of defective parts to and from Coolerado (FOB factory), for inspection and determination of warranty eligibility. Coolerado s Limited Warranty does not cover defects, reduced performance, or failures, caused directly or indirectly, by improper installation, inadequate or excessive water pressure, hard water greater than 60 ppm total hardness that is not adequately treated by a sodium-based water softener, frequent power outages, abuse, misuse, misapplication, improper maintenance, lack of maintenance, negligence, accident, weather damage, damage related to shipping or handling, or normal deterioration, including wear and tear. The Limited Warranty also shall not apply to failures, defects, or reduced performance resulting, directly or indirectly, from use of the Product for any purpose other than indirect air-cooling, or from exposure to corrosive gases, liquids or other materials. If the Product is installed in conjunction with cabinets, grilles, louvers, controls, other air condition or air handling equipment, or any other parts or equipment not manufactured or provided by Coolerado, this warranty covers only the Coolerado Product. The following specifically void the Limited Warranty: 1. Weather damage; 2. Improper installation, including inadequate sealing of the unit that exposes the unit s interior to outside elements; 3. Installation, disassembly, or repairs not performed by a licensed installation contractor or technician, or that do not follow the owner s manual or installation manual or do not comply with industry standards or applicable building codes; 4. Inadequate or excessive water pressure to the Product; 5. Power source interruptions, other than intermittent (5-10 minutes) and occasional (i.e. not more than once or twice per cooling season) interruptions; 6. Air and water filters not being cleaned or replaced as specified in the owner s manual; 7. Use of hard water greater than 60 ppm total hardness without adequate treatment by a sodium-based water softener; 8. Equipment being run with missing or damaged parts, including air or water filters; or 9. Other maintenance, including start-up and winterization, not being performed as specified in the owner s manual. This Limited Warranty does not include costs for transportation (including, without limitation, freight and return freight charges, costs and insurance), costs for removal or re-installation of parts or equipment, premiums for overtime, or labor for performing repairs or replacement in the field. Coolerado is not responsible for damages occurring during transport of any Product to or from Coolerado. Coolerado is not obligated to provide field service or labor, such as service for inspection, repairing, removing, or packing, Coolerado product for transportation. Coolerado reserves the right to charge for handling, inspection and other services in the case of parts or equipment improperly returned as defective and/or as being covered under warranty. THE OBLIGATION AND LIABILITY OF COOLERADO, AND BUYER S SOLE AND EXLUSIVE REMEDIES, ARE AS EXPRESSLY STATED.
