Revision History Version 2.2 This is a general upgrade and format change. Version 2.1 For all memory locations, added Unit Ventilator Model information since not all memory locations are applicable to all models. Added missing locations: Chilled Water Valve Position Face & Bypass Damper Position Hot Water Valve Position Removed Tenant Override Switch from the Read Only section. This memory location was erroneously included in both the "Read Only" and the "Read and Write" sections. The Water Out Temperature for Models 2 and 3 has been deleted and replaced with a refrigerant Suction Line Temperature. Corrected math errors in determining Run Hours and Compressor Starts. Corrected explanation for Mixed Air Temp, previous documentation indicated that when the sensor was not present, the value of the memory location would be 255, this was corrected to read 254. Added a summary for Unit Ventilator Model Descriptions. Updated all references to software program identifications to reflect current software versions. MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol 4

Overview Functional Goals of the Open Protocol for Unit Ventilators The McQuay International Open Protocol for unit ventilators allows other automation integrators the ability to communicate to a network of unit ventilators and obtain useful operating information via communication "reads" from the controller. In addition, remote control of the unit ventilator is possible by "writes" to the controller of new setpoints and commands. The result of the Open Protocol can be summarized as follows: Reading of the following operational information: Room Temperature Discharge Air Temp. Outdoor Air Temp. Mixed Air Temp. Water In Temp (For WSHP Units) Suction Line Temp (for WSHP Units) Outdoor Air Damper Position Hot Water or Steam Valve Position (When applicable) Chilled Water Valve Position (When applicable) Current Electric Heat Stage 1-3 (When applicable) Current Mode : Occupied or Unoccupied Mode: Heat or Cool Current Fault - 15 unique possible codes Compressor Output Status - On/Off No. of Compressor Starts Tenant Override Switch Status Supply Fan Status - On/Off Supply Fan Hours Face & Bypass Damper Position Current (Active) Heat/Cool Setpoints Tenant Room Setpoint Adjustment Pot(-3 F to 3 F) Outdoor Air Damper Position Setpoint Outdoor Air Damper Minimum Position Setpoint Face & Bypass Damper Position Setpoint Control of the Unit Ventilator: Ability to set time schedule as Occupied or Unoccupied Ability to set the active (current) Heating setpoint. Ability to set the active (current) Cooling setpoint. Ability to clear active Fault conditions. Ability to set a tenant override duration (request for after hour cooling or heating). 6 Introduction to Open Protocol Network Configuration This section will be used to explain how the McQuay Unit Ventilator Open Protocol Network works so that the correct equipment and program can be chosen to communicate through MicroTech Open Protocol. There are two (2) types of controllers that are used to make an Open Protocol Unit Ventilator Network. They are the Open Protocol Master (OPM) and the Unit Ventilators (UV's). Level 1 Open Protocol Master Unit Ventilator Level 2 Unit Ventilator The OPM provides a single communications port entry into the McQuay Unit Ventilator network. The OPM panel consists of an EnergyLine model 120 controller. The automation integrator connects to Comm port A, which will be pre configured for RS-232, 9600 baud. Port A is the automation control integrator's Open Protocol communications port. Comm port B is a daisy chained, multi-drop, 9600 baud RS-485 proprietary McQuay International protocol. The main function of the OPM is to provide network communication interface for up to 64 Unit Ventilator controllers. The unit ventilator controller is factory mounted. The unit controller replaces all controls with preprogrammed, pre-engineered and pre-tested stand-alone control. There is one controller for each unit ventilator. In addition to this hardware, McQuay's Unit Ventilator Open Protocol Monitor Software package is needed. This software is used to configure, commission, and troubleshoot the McQuay communications system. The software contains diagnostic routines which can be used to troubleshoot the McQuay network. This software is MS-DOS compatible to be used in all IBM PC's or 100% true compatibles. The Monitor Software is installed in the IBM or compatible PC, and the PC is connected to the OPM port "A" as shown: MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol 6

Level 1 Open Protocol Master Port A Port B Port B Monitor Software PC Port B Etc. Unit Ventilator Level 2 Unit Ventilator Once the McQuay communication network has been commissioned and is functional, the temperature control vendor can disconnect the monitor PC and connect a communicating device from the Building Automation System (BAS) Integrator's network. When the BAS Integrators communicating device is connected to the OPM panel the communications configuration is as follows: Level 1 Open Protocol Master Port A BAS Communications Device Port B Port B Port B Etc. Unit Ventilator Level 2 Unit Ventilator As mentioned earlier, the unit ventilator controller is a stand-alone device. In other words, the unit vent will continue to operate when communication is lost. However, the network must be intact for read and write requests from the BAS communication device to be passed along to the unit ventilators. If communication to the Unit Ventilators is lost, the Unit Ventilators will default to occupied mode, and the setpoints used for heating, cooling, and minimum Outdoor air damper position will be determined by the hardware potentiometers on the Unit Ventilator MicroTech controller. 7 MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol

OPM - Open Protocol Master Panel Variables This is the only memory location that will be able to be read in the Open Protocol Master Panel. It is used to see if the OPM is powered, communicating, and the applications code is intact. Open Protocol Master Status 0400 This is the status of the OPM. When looking at this address, it will have a number from 0 to Running 255 Not Running MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol 8

Description of Operation Control Temperature Temperature Calculation Control Following is a general description of operation. A more detailed description of operation is included in the Installation and Maintenance manual. Note that the control temperature for Unit ventilator is continually calculated by the MicroTech controller during occupied mode using the following equation: Control Temp = 19/20 * (Room Temp) + 1/20 * (Discharge Air Temp) Unoccupied Heating (Night setback) Water or Steam Heat Electric Heat Air Source Heat Pumps Chilled Water DX Cooling Heat Pump Occupied Heating The supply fan will cycle on when the control temperature is equal or below the Unoccupied Heating setpoint. The outdoor air damper will remain closed. If there is hot water or steam heat and the entering water temperature is above 80 F, the heating valve will be wide open or the face & bypass damper will be in the full face position. The discharge air temperature will not be allowed to go over 150 F. If there is electric heat, the first stage will be turned on when the control temperature falls one degree below the unoccupied heating setpoint. If, 30 seconds later, the control temperature is still below setpoint, another stage of heat will be turned on. If the control temperature is above or equal the setpoint plus 2 degrees, a stage of heat will be turned off. If, 30 seconds later, the control temperature is still above setpoint plus two degrees, another stage of heat will be turned off. The fan remains on whenever any stage of electric heat is on. If there is an air source heat pump, the compressor will come on in the heating mode whenever the control temperature falls below the unoccupied heating setpoint and will go off if the room temperature rises above setpoint. The first stage of electric heat will come on if the control temperature is at or below setpoint minus 2 degrees and the outdoor air temperature is below 20 F. If, 30 seconds later, the control temperature remains below setpoint minus 2 degrees, another stage of heat will be turned on. If the control temperature is at or above setpoint plus 2 degrees, a stage of heat will be turned off. If, after 30 seconds, the control temperature remains at or above setpoint plus 2 degrees, another stage of heat will be turned off. The fan remains on whenever Unoccupied Cooling (Night Setup) The supply fan will cycle on when the control temperature is at or above the Unoccupied Cooling setpoint. The outdoor air damper will remain closed. If there is chilled water cooling and the entering water temperature is below 80 F, the cooling valve will be wide open or the face & bypass damper will be in the full face position whenever the control temperature is above setpoint. The cooling valve will be closed or the face & bypass damper will be in the bypass position if the control temperature goes below setpoint minus 2 degrees deadband. If there is DX cooling, the compressor will be turned on when the control temperature goes one degree above the unoccupied cooling setpoint. It will be turned off if the control temperature goes below setpoint. If there is a heat pump, the compressor will come on in the cooling mode whenever the control temperature goes above the unoccupied cooling setpoint and will go off if the room temperature goes below setpoint. The supply fan is on and the outdoor air damper will modulate. If the room temperature is at or below the occupied heating setpoint minus 3 degrees, the damper will be closed. If the room temperature is greater than the occupied heating setpoint minus 3 degrees, the damper will be in the minimum position. If the outdoor air temperature is below 68 F (adj.), the dampers will be allowed to open for free cooling provided that the room temperature is above the ventilation cooling setpoint. 17 MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol

Water or Steam Heat Electric Heat Air Source Heat Pump Occupied Cooling If there is hot water or steam heat, the heating valve or face & bypass dampers will be modulated to maintain the occupied heating setpoint (for 2 pipe units the entering water temperature must be above 80 F). The discharge air temperature will not be allowed to go below 55 F (adj.). If there is electric heat, the first stage will be turned on when the temperature falls one degree below the occupied heating setpoint. If, 30 seconds later, the temperature is still below setpoint, another stage of heat will be turned on. If the temperature is at or above setpoint, a stage of heat will be turned off. If, 30 seconds later, the temperature is still at or above setpoint, another stage of heat will be turned off. The discharge air temperature will not be allowed to go below 55 F (adj.). If there is an air source heat pump, the compressor will come on in the heating mode whenever the room temperature falls below the occupied heating setpoint and will go off if the room temperature rises above setpoint. The first stage of electric heat will come on if the room temperature is at or below setpoint minus 2 degrees and the outdoor air temperature is below 20 F. If, 30 seconds later, the temperature remains below setpoint minus 2 degrees, another stage of heat will be turned on. If the temperature goes above setpoint minus 2 degrees or the outdoor air temperature goes above 20 F, a stage of heat will be turned off. If, after 30 seconds, the temperature remains above setpoint minus 2 degrees, another stage of heat will be turned off. The discharge air temperature will not be allowed to go below 55 F (adj.). Chilled Water DX Cooling Heat Pump The supply fan is on and the outdoor air damper will modulate. If the room temperature is at or above the occupied cooling setpoint plus 3 degrees, the damper will be closed. If the room temperature is less than the cooling setpoint plus 3 degrees, the dampers will be in the minimum position. If the outdoor air temperature is below 68 F (adj.), the damper will be allowed to open for free cooling provided that the room temperature is above the ventilation cooling setpoint. If there is chilled water cooling, the cooling valve or face & bypass dampers will be modulated to maintain the occupied cooling setpoint ( for 2 pipe units the entering water temperature must be below 80 F). If there is a DX cooling, the compressor will come on whenever the room temperature goes over the occupied cooling setpoint and will go off if the room temperature goes below setpoint. If there is a heat pump, the compressor will come on in the cooling mode whenever the room temperature goes over the occupied cooling setpoint and will go off if the room temperature goes below setpoint. To get the actual temperature, take the value and subtract 50, result is in F. Supply Fan Hours 0444, 0445 These locations contain the Supply Fan Hours. To get the number of supply fan run hours, multiply the hi byte (0444) by 256 and add the lo byte (0445). Take the sum and multiply by 2. The result is in hours, 0 to 131,070. Supply Fan Status 0211 This location contains the current status of the Supply Fan Output. A "0" indicates the output is off. A non zero value indicates the output is on. Tenant Setpoint Potentiometer Adjustment 0422 This locations contains the Tenant Setpoint Potentiometer Adjustment. This location is used to determine how much to offset the standard setpoint(s). The follow table shows adjustment values: Value Adjustment to Setpoint 7-3 F adjustment 8-2 F adjustment 9-1 F adjustment 10 0 F adjustment 11 1 F adjustment 12 2 F adjustment 13 3 F adjustment The adjustment is then used to "move" the setpoint(s) to their new values. MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol 24

Water In Temperature 0405 This location contains the current Water In Temperature. To get the actual temperature, take the value and subtract 50, result is in F. Unit Ventilator Read and Write Memory Locations The following locations are used by all models of Unit Ventilators: Description Address Range Conversion Clear Fault See Below CommCoolSptRam X - 50 = F CommHeatSptRam X - 50 = F CommStatusRam = No Comm, > 0 = Comm O.K. Tenant Override Time minutes TimeClockRam = Unoccupied, 1 = Occupied Clear Fault 0424 Write a zero to this memory location to clear an active fault. Note that if the fault condition is still true, the memory location will return to the fault code (see above). CommCoolSptRam 0435 This is the active cooling setpoint which the controller will control to when the CommStatusRam is non-zero. The only legitimate values to write to this memory location are between 115 and 140 (65 F and 90 F). If this location contains a non-legitimate value, the controller will use the default (on board potentiometer) heat and cool setpoints. CommHeatSptRam 0436 This is the active heating setpoint which the controller will control to when the CommStatusRam is non-zero. The only legitimate values to write to this memory location are between 105 and CommCoolSptRam - 6 F (55 F and CommCoolSptRam - 6 F deadband). If this location contains a non-legitimate value, the controller will use the default (on board potentiometer) heat and cool setpoints. CommStatusRam 0433 The automation integrator should continuously write to this memory location the number of minutes that the Unit Ventilator should control to setpoints written via communications. This memory location is decremented by a value of 1 every minute. If the memory location reaches zero, the controller will assume active communications has been lost, and control will be returned to the default setpoints of the controller. The default setpoints are determined by the position of the setpoint potentiometers on the controller and the status of the time clock digital input. Tenant Override Time 0420 Take the memory location and multiply by 5. This is the time remaining in the tenant override mode. To command the unit to tenant override mode, write the number of minutes of override desired divided by 5 ( e.g. for 60 minutes of override, write 12.) TimeClockRam 0434 Use this memory location to command a unit to occupied or unoccupied mode via communications. The CommStatus RAM must be non-zero or the controller will not respond to this memory location. 25 MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol

Unit Ventilator Simulation Package Required Development Testing Tools In order to develop and test an Open Protocol interface to the Unit Ventilators, the following is required: 1. McQuay International "Open Protocol Data Communications" document version 1.2 dated Feb. 24th, McQuay Open Protocol Hardware Simulator Package which includes: (1) Model 250 Controller (2) Model 125 Controllers (1) Model 120 Controller (or another 125 Controller may be used). 3. Power supply with power cord and adapter cables 4. RS-232 Communications cable package 5. RS-485 Communications cable package 6. Unit Ventilator Open Protocol Simulator Monitor Program (P/N A-010) 7. Unit Ventilator Monitor Program Users Manual Set-up of Hardware for Testing One set-up which is particularly useful for proving out an Open Protocol interface is as shown below. In this arrangement, the Open Protocol interface is operational on Port A of the OPM panel. The Monitor program interface is operational on Port A of one of the Unit Ventilator Model 125's. Level 1 Open Protocol Master Port A BAS Communications (Addr ) Device Port B Port B Port B Etc. Unit Ventilator Level 2 Unit Ventilator (Addr ) (Addr ) Port A Monitor Software Procedure for setting up the Network for Testing 1. Connect power to the OPM Controller (a Model 120 or a Model 125 may be used as the OPM controller). MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol 26

2. Connect the MicroTech communications cables. Start with the OPM port B. Connect (daisy chain) the comm. cables to the (2) unit ventilators. For RS-485 pinout connections for each model controller, see the McQuay International "Open Protocol Data Communications" document version 1.2 dated Feb. 24th, Connect the power supply for the (2) unit ventilators and power. 4. Set the Hex address switches on the OPM to Hi = F and Lo = F. And connect the PC comm. cable to Port A. 5. Install Unit Ventilator Open Protocol software onto PC and invoke the Monitor program with RUN.BAT. You should establish communications at 1200 baud. 6. Download the OPM01*.COD file to the OPM panel. 7. Next connect the PC cable to Port A of one of the free standing model 125's. Set the hex switches to Hi=F and Lo=F, power reset the controller. Establish communications with the Monitor program at 1200 baud. Download UV4PXK.COD to this controller. 8. Next connect the PC cable the other free standing model 125's. Set the hex switches to Hi=F and Lo=F and power reset the controller. Establish communications with the Monitor program at 1200 baud. Download UV4PXK.COD to this controller. 9. De-power the controllers, set the OPM and the two model 125's to have address switch settings as follows: Controller Hi Hex Switch Lo Hex Switch Resultant Address OPM Panel Unit Vent #1 (M125) Unit Vent #2 (M125) Move the PC comm. cable back to the OPM, power the controllers, and establish communications. Confirm that you have established communications to each of the 3 controllers in the network (you may use the "Network Diagnostics" feature of the Monitor program or the "Read/Write Variables" feature of the Monitor program). 11. With communications within the network established, move the PC with the Monitor program running to Port A of the unit ventilator and again confirm that you have established communications. 12. Connect the BAS interface to Port A of the OPM panel and establish communications. 13. Confirm each read only and read/write variable which has been set up within your interface is properly interpreted and displayed by comparing the values which are available on the BAS with the values on the Monitor program. 27 MicroTech Unit Ventilator Open Protocol
