1 PALARRE, ROCHELLE WATER-GUARD VITREOUS CHINA SIPHON JET TOILET BEFORE YOU BEGIN HOW TO USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS Please read these instructions carefully to familiarize yourself with the required tools, materials, and installation sequences. Follow the sections that pertain to your particular installation. This will help you avoid costly mistakes. In addition to proper installation, read all operating and safety instructions. All information in these instructions is based upon the latest product information available at the time of publication. Kohler Co. reserves the right to make changes in product characteristics, packaging, or availability at any time without notice. These instructions contain important care, cleaning, and warranty information please leave instructions for the consumer. ORDERING INFORMATION Palarre Toilet K-3383 Seat K-4674 Rochelle Toilet K-3385 Seat K-4675 When specified: Floor bolts (pair) NOTES Seat post holes on 5-1/2 centers. Water depth from rim is 6-3/4. 2-1/4 passageway. Ensure that the new toilet has the correct roughing-in dimension. The K-3383 and K-3385 have a 12 roughing-in dimension. See Fig. #1. Closet flange must be 12 on-center from wall. Carefully inspect the new fixture for any sign of damage. Observe all local plumbing and building codes. Shut off the water supply. For new construction, refer to the dimensions in Fig. #1 and Fig. #4 for locating the shut-off valve. Fixture dimensions are nominal and conform to tolerances established by ANSI Standards (A ). Toilet must be installed with a 1/2 shut-off valve. 25 p.s.i. running pressure is required at the shut-off valve. WARNING: Risk of personal injury or product damage: Handle vitreous china products very carefully. Vitreous china can break and chip if you overtighten bolts and nuts. Supply K-3383 Fig. #1 9 K-3383 Base INSTALLATION TO REMOVE EXISTING TOILET Turn off the water supply. Flush the toilet, and use a sponge to remove any remaining water from the tank and bowl. Disconnect the supply shut-off valve (if present), and remove the old tank and bowl. Remove the old gasket from the floor and the closet flange with a putty knife. Remove the old T-bolts and discard them. NOTICE: If the new toilet is not installed immediately, temporarily stuff a rag into the closet flange. Closet Flange Fig. # AA (A) 2 Kohler Co., Kohler, WI

3 Install two new 5/16 diameter T-bolts into the closet flange. T-Bolts Closet Flange Fig. #3 TO INSTALL SUPPLY SHUT-OFF VALVE Install the supply shut-off valve so it is 2-5/8 above the finished floor line, and 7 to the left of the closet flange centerline. The centerline of the supply shut-off valve outlet should extend 3-1/2 from the finished wall. Install the supply shut-off valve with the outlet vertical. 2-5/8 12 Fig. #4 Supply Shut-Off Valve 7 Closet Flange Centerline TO INSTALL TOILET Set the toilet upside down on some padding. Firmly press the toilet gasket onto the toilet outlet. NOTE: If you are using a toilet gasket with an integral plastic sleeve, make sure the gasket is positioned with the sleeve facing away from the toilet. Toilet Outlet Gasket If you temporarily plugged the closet flange with a rag, remove the rag at this time. Carefully align and lower the toilet over the closet flange and T-bolts. Apply full body weight to the toilet rim to set the seal. CAUTION: Risk of concealed leakage. Do not lift or rock the toilet after placement a new toilet gasket must be installed if you break the watertight seal. Fig. #5 Assemble the bolt cap bases, washers, and nuts on the exposed T-bolts. Handtighten the nuts, then tighten them an additional 1/2-turn. CAUTION: Risk of personal injury or product damage. Overtightening may cause breakage or chipping of the vitreous china. If the T-bolts extend more than 1/4 over the top of the nuts, cut off the excess and file the end. Wipe away any residue. Install the bolt caps. 4 TO CONNECT SUPPLY SHUT-OFF VALVE NOTICE: Read this section carefully before performing these steps. For installation of the supply shut-off valve, refer to the installation instructions packed with the valve. Carefully bend the tubing to fit. Cut the end of the tubing 1/4 longer than the distance between the supply shut-off valve and the supply shank. Remove any burrs from the inside of the tubing. Slip the coupling nut, compression nut, and ferrule onto the tubing. Insert the tubing into the supply shut-off valve and the supply shank, positioning the seal washer (supplied) or the compression washer (not supplied), as shown. Tighten the coupling nut to the supply shank. Then tighten the compression nut to the supply shut-off valve. WARNING: Risk of external leakage. Do not overtighten any of these nuts, or you may deform the connections and cause leakage. Handtighten the nuts. Then use a 6-point, 3/4 deep socket and 1/4 ratchet to secure the nuts. Refer to the installation instructions packed with the toilet seat for further information. Turn the shut-off valve on, and check for leaks. If the connections are squarely assembled, a slight retightening of the nuts will stop any leaks. Check all connections for leaks for several days. 5 Water Level Adjustment: Turn on the water supply to the toilet, and adjust the water level in the tank to the line on the flush valve overflow tube. Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise to raise the water level. To lower the water level, turn the screw clockwise. Flush the toilet and repeat until the water level in the tank matches the line on the flush valve overflow tube. Bowl Water Level Adjustment: Use the trip chain to lift the flush ball in the tank slightly to allow water to trickle into the bowl until the water level in the bowl stops rising. This is the seal height and should be noted for subsequent adjustment. Flush the toilet and observe the water level in the bowl after refill. If the water level is below seal height, turn the seal screw clockwise. Reflush the toilet and check the water level. Continue adjustment until water stops entering the bowl just as the seal height is reached. Water Level Flush Ball Trip Chain Adjustment Screw Seal Screw Fig. #9 High Water Pressure Timing: If the toilet is installed in an area with high water pressure (above 50 p.s.i. working pressure), the float valve should be timed. To time the float valve, hold up the float rod and flush the toilet. After the toilet has completed the flush, time the refill from the release of the rod to valve shut-off. If the time is longer than 34 seconds, no adjustment is needed. If the time is under 34 seconds, turn the timing screw clockwise, then recheck the timing. Adjust the screw until the time is between 34 and 36 seconds. After timing the valve, recheck the bowl water level as in Water Level/Bowl Water Level Adjustments to ensure that seal is maintained. 7 IMPORTANT CONSUMER INFORMATION CONSUMER RESPONSIBILITIES If you live in a hard water area, make certain that the holes in the toilet rim are kept clean to ensure proper bowl flushing. Toilet bowl cleaners should be used at least once a week. Use a long-handled brush to clean the rim holes, and to clean as far into the trap as possible to prevent mineral deposits from forming. Most toilet bowl cleaners are not harmful to the vitreous china surface of the toilet bowl. Please follow the bowl cleaner manufacturer s instructions carefully. Do not use abrasive cleansers or solvents. WARNING: Do not use in-tank cleaners. Products containing chlorine (calcium hypochlorite) can seriously damage fittings in the tank. This damage can cause leakage and property damage. Kohler Company shall not be responsible or liable for any tank fitting damage caused by the use of cleaners containing chlorine (calcium hypochlorite). REQUESTING SERVICE Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Kohler Warranty, its benefits, and limitations. LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY Kohler plumbing fixtures and fittings are warranted free of manufacturing defects. Kohler Co. will, at its election repair, replace, or make appropriate adjustment where Kohler Co. inspection discloses any such defects occurring in normal usage within one year after installation. Kohler Co. is not responsible for installation costs.
