LABEC DATA AND SPECIFICATIONS ULTRASONIC CLEANER MODEL FXP16M APPLICATIONS: The Labec FX range is a single chamber device used to clean surgical instruments and other hardware with sonic energy in a heated water / detergent solution. It is designed for use in surgery reprocessing areas, central processing departments and laboratories. FEATURES: All exterior surfaces re 3mm Palopaque. Pressed stainless steel tank. A single tank system with rounded corner reflex design. Mechanical timer (30 minutes). 100 watts of ultrasonic power. Polyester coated transducers to prevent moisture. contamination and maintain high efficiency levels. Internal fitted basket. Sealing lid. EMC tested and approved. APPROVALS: AS/NZS3760:2001 AS Electrical Safety Certificate of Conformity No:E (C-Tick) Certificate for inclusion of medical device-class 1 (T.G.A.)

LABEC DATA AND SPECIFICATIONS ULTRASONIC CLEANER MODEL FXP16M CONSTRUCTION: All exterior surfaces are 3mm PVC The ultrasonic chamber is pressed from 304 stainless steel and is 1mm in thickness. All integral plumbing is stainless steel. Basket is fabricated from stainless steel mesh and rod. Sonics energy is provided to the chamber by piezoelectric transducers bonded to the tank bottom with a frequency of 40kHz. Maximum operating temperature should not exceed 60 degrees Celsius so as to maintain reliability and maximise efficiency. Minimum operating depth should not be less than 50mm. Power is supplied by solid-state circuitry, which is air-cooled. CONTROLS: A 30-minute mechanical timer control is located at the bottom front of the unit and should be set as per operating instructions. The mains plug/socket is located at the side of the unit. The unit should always be positioned to allow for plenty of circulation. Care should always be taken to avoid excessive spillage of solution when draining fluid. GENERAL CLEANING: The turnover of solution must be determined by the user to satisfy acceptable cleaning results of the finished article. The more solution is contaminated the longer the cleaning process. If the contamination is heavy and difficult to remove a pre rinse in a heated bath could be sufficient enough to soften and loosen unwanted debris in preparation for the ultrasonic cleaning. At the other end of the scale after the items have been removed it is essential that a final wash be performed to remove any residue that remains on the cleaned parts.

ULTRASONIC CLEANERS General Information Ultrasonic is the science of sound waves above the frequency of human audibility. In general, frequencies above 18,000 cycles per second are considered to be ultrasonic. In ultrasonic cleaning, high amplitude sound waves are introduced into a liquid cleaning solution. As these sound waves travel through the liquid areas of alternate positive and negative pressures are created which correspond to the areas of compression and rarefaction of a sound wave in air. Air is relatively elastic and conforms in a continuous fashion as a sound wave passes a given point. Liquids, however are not elastic (as can be evidenced by hydraulic principal) and are literally torn apart when a strong rarefaction or negative pressure point is created. As the liquid is torn apart a microscopic void is created which is called a cavitation bubble. For all practical purposes cavitation bubble is an area of vacuum within the body of liquid and is therefore very unstable and short lived. When the bubble collapses or implodes, a phenomenon not unlike that of a thunderclap only on microscopic scales results. Minute areas of high pressure are created by these thunderclaps which break down the surface boundary layer and enhance chimerical cleaning action. The advantages of ultrasonic cleaning are: 1. Cavitation bubbles are extremely small and can reach into areas that the bristle of a brush could never reach. 2. Ultrasonic cleaning is fast, accomplishing a better cleaning job in a small fraction of the time required by other methods. 3. Ultrasonic cleaning will not damage even the most delicate parts. Parts that would be bent by simple picking them up in one s fingers can be cleaned safely using the gentle yet powerful force of ultrasonic.

REDUCED LABOUR & CHEMICAL COSTS IMPROVED PRODUCT RELIABILITY EFFICIENT MOST ECONOMICAL CLEANING METHOD EXPOSURE OF VISIBLE SURFACE DEFFECTS REMOVES CONTAMINATION FROM BLIND HOLES & CREVICES APPLICATIONS Ultrasonic Cleaning can be used in every application from delicate jewellery parts to rocket engines. Here are some other examples of equipment that can be ultrasonically cleaned. BUSINESS MACHINES FILTERS SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS ARMATURES ENGINE BLOCKS AUTOMOTIVE CARBURETTORS VALVES & PIPES PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS HEATING COILS& ELEMENTS MEDICAL AND LABORATORY ITEMS ACREENS & STAINERS CONSUMER APPLIANCES BEFORE SERVICING HOW IT WORKS The Generator is the power source where the ultrasonic wave is made and this high frequency electrical energy signal is passed on to the transducer converting the mechanical energy and imparting into the liquid in the cleaning tank. The conversion from electrical energy to mechanical energy in the cleaning medium (liquid) includes cavitation, which is the real work force in the liquid. In cavitation the varying pressures of a sound wave rapidly collapses and expands in the tank liquid to scrub off the contaminants. 7 * ALWAYS ALLOW A FEW MINUTES FOR FRESH LIQUIDS TO DEGAS * DO NOT ALLOW LIQUID LEVEL TO DROP BELOW 50MM FROM TANK BOTTOM * DO NOT USE HEATERS WITHOUT A THERMOSTAT CONTROL * FLUID TEMPERATURE WILL INCREASE UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS * DO NOT DROP HEAVY OR SHARP OBJECTS INTO STAINLESS STEEL BATH * DO NOT ALLOW WORK PIECES TO REST ON THE BOTTOM OR SIDES OF THE TANK ALWAYS SUSPEND THEM IN A BASKET * IN HEATED UNITS DO NOT ALLOW LIQUID LEVEL TO DROP BELOW 80MM FROM TANK BOTTOM AND SETTING FOR THE THERMOSTAT SHOULD NOT EXCEED 60 DEGREE CELSIUS * DO NOT POUR HOT WATER DIRECTLY INTO THE TANK * IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO OPERATE UNIT FOR LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES * THERMOSTAT SHOULD ALWAYS BE TURNED OFF WHEN THE HEATER IS NOT IN USE

THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED IN MAINTAINING THE RELIABILITY AND EFFICIENCY OF THE ULTRASONIC CLEANING UNIT AND THE ULTRASONIC ASSISTANT. * WHEN LOCATING THE CLEANER ALWAYS KEEP THE UNIT AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM SINKS OR WATER OUTLETS TO ELIMINATE ELECTRICAL BREAKDOWN. * ALWAYS DRAIN THE BASKET FULLY OF FLUID BEFORE LEAVING THE CLEANING CHAMBER. * TAKE CARE WHEN REFILLING THE CLEANER AS NOT TO ALLOW ANY EXCESS SPILLAGE OR SPLASHING OF FLUID ONTO MAINS POWER OUTLET. * UNWANTED RESIDUE LEFT AFTER CLEANING PROCESS SHOULD ALWAYS BE RINSED OR WIPED CLEAN FROM THE INTERNAL TANK TO AVOID CORROSION OF TANK SURFACE. * THE DRAINAGE OF FLUID THROUGH THE OUTLET VALVE SHOULD ALWAYS BE WELL CLEAR OF THE TIMER CONTROL AND MAINS PLUG CONNECTION. * THE OPERATOR SHOULD ALWAYS BE AWARE THAT IT ONLY TAKES A SMALL AMOUNT OF MOISTURE CONTAMINATION ON THE POWER CONNECTIONS TO CAUSE ELECTRICAL BREAKDOWN.

INSTALLATION When locating a position for this composite generator and tank unit, consideration should be given to the following: 1) Generous circulation of air all round the cabinet 2) Surrounding air free of dirt, contamination and high temperature 3) Away from possible liquid splatter 4) Easy access for manual adjustment 5) Adjacent to suitable power supply The unit can be placed ready for work within the confines of the power supply lead. OPERATION Insert the 3pin plug top on the lead from the unit into a 240volt,AC outlet. Pour cleaning fluid of your choice into the tank. Switch the supply mains ON. The unit is now ready to operate. Activate the Mechanical timer time switch to the desired setting and ultrasonic cavitation will occur in the liquid. On the Digital timer select the time period on the timer pads on the main panel and press START/STOP and ultrasonic action will commence. Countdown setting will commence and can be stopped at any time by pressing & holding the START/STOP pad. Beep sound is given when countdown finishes. Please refer to digital timer instructions on page 5A. In the console models a circuit breaker is incorporated on the main panel for circuit protection and personal safety. When using new liquid in the tank for the first time always allow at least 15 minutes for it to de-gas before actual cleaning is started. Cleaning mediums (liquids) for use in these tanks are usually recommended, however if new solution is to be tried it is most advisable to thoroughly check its suitability first. As ultrasonic when applied to liquids tends to vaporize them on the surface and this could cause a dangerous toxic gas to be emitted. This tank is load tuned to the generator before leaving the factory. It enables the tank to contend with varying work conditions and no further tuning is needed. While the tank and jacket will contend with normal dipping from articles being removed from the cleaning solution the unit should not be subjected to overflow or splashing liquids. SERVICING Unauthorized repairs will void warranty. Only a fully authorized service person should attempt to service this product. The circuit s present high-level voltage, improper testing or repair procedures could result in injury to the service person and damage to the product.

DO S AND DON T S FOR ULTRASONIC CLEANERS SYSTEMS DO Use the proper cleaning solution for the jobs. Take time in selecting the right medium for all tasks. Use beakers and positioning covers or auxiliary pans for additional solutions. Rinse thoroughly after each cleaning application. Keep tank bottom free of silt and dirt accumulation. Rack or suspend articles to be cleaned away from tank bottom and sides. DON T Run machine without solution in the tank. Use plain water in the tank, unless absolutely imperative. Always add some wetting agent. Use acidic or strong alkaline solutions directly in the stainless steel tank. (Beakers). Allow skin contact with doubtful chemicals. Use wax and compound removers on plastic or acrylics. Allow surgical and dental instruments to remain in Tartar, Light Stain and Permanent Cement Remover for more than two minutes to avoid discoloration. Place heavy items directly on the tank bottom. SYMPTOM PROBABLE CAUSE No activity in tank, indicating light off. Defective power cord. No power at mains supply outlet. No activity in the tank, indicating light on. Blown fuse. Component failure. Faulty time switch. Weak cavitation. Line voltage too slow. Fluid is dirty. Transducer problem. Fluid not degassed. Fluid too hot.

All these units use silicon rubber contact heaters on the outside face of the tank and are thermostatically controlled. The external heater knob is calibrated for the desired heating temperature of the cleaning fluid. The liquid level in all heating units should never drop below 80mm from the tank bottom and the thermostat setting should not exceed 60 degrees Celsius, Hot water should never be poured directly into tank bottom but instead be brought to temperature more gradually. Mechanical Timer and Heaters With the desired type and level of cleaning fluid in the tank and with the unit plugged into a 240v mains and outlet ON, active the time switch to the determined period and ultrasonic action will commence, after the above sequence, set heater knob to desired temperature and the element will start to heat the tank contents. The FXP20MH cleaner includes an ON/OFF switch located next to the thermostat control, which needs to be switched on prior to the setting of the heater knob. Digital Electronic Timer and Heaters With the desired type and level of cleaning fluid in the tank and plugged into a 240v mains outlet ON, power will be through to the control circuit. Select the time period on the timer pads on the main panel and press START and ultrasonic action will commence, after the above sequence, set the heater knob to the desired temperature and the element will start to heat the tank contents. The heating power for each cleaner is as follows: FXP10MH/DH FXP12MH/DH FXP14 MH/DH FXP16MH/DH FXP20 MH/DH 50 Watts 50 Watts 100 Watts 100 Watts 200 Watts

PERFORMANCE TEST Please find as follows the testing process for efficiency levels in the ultrasonic cleaner using aluminium foil. The aluminium foil test is a testing procedure that Unisonics Australia has been using for more than 20 years and gives you accurate comprehensive results. Testing Procedure: 1. Cut a section of Aluminium Foil the length and depth of the Ultrasonic Tank. 2. Immerse section of aluminium foil into the liquid in a vertical hold. 3. The foil must not make contact with tank bottom and be left for a duration of 30 seconds. 4. A consistent pattern of perforation should result with hole sizes varying from one to four mm in diameter. 5. Foil can be purchased from any supermarket. PLEASE NOTE In larger Ultrasonic Cleaners more than one section of foil may be immersed. If the foil test is to be done at the beginning of the day the fluid should be removed from the tank, prior to the cleaning of instruments, as the solution left is foil contaminated.
