2 Thank you for choosing our incinerating toilet, the Flame You will find in this instruction the information you need for correct installation, use, care etc. of your new toilet. Regards The Separett Team READ CAREFULLY AND BEAR IN MIND THE FOLLOWING: Before you start the installation of your Flame 8000, read through all of the installation and user instructions, because it is important to have the Correct Installation Use Maintenance * The correct installation for both supply air and the exhaust air is important. * For the 3-year guarantee to be valid, the installation must be performed according to the instructions. * Use and care of your incinerating toilet is also important, so remember to use your toilet in a correct way and clean it when needed. Do not cut the band in the bottom of the toilet, as it keeps the battery in place. The battery's function is to ensure that the fan cools the toilet even if there is a loss of power and to keep the display lit in the event of a power cut. Connect to earthed 230V socket, which must have a 10A fuse at the minimum, and preferable a residual current device. To protect the toilet, switch off at both switches and unplug in the case of thunderstorms and longer absences.

INSTALLATION The space where the toilet is to be placed: Separett Flame is approved for installation in bathrooms, IP Class 44 and there are no requirements set on the room temperature, it works in both cold and warm spaces. The toilet can be placed where you want and it does not need to be secured to the wall or floor. For Flame to work, the underlying surface must be hard to prevent the toilet from sinking down and blocking the supply flow of air at the front edge of the toilet. Exhaust air Only use plastic pipes with a smooth inside and with minimum size Ø110mm. Max 6 metres total length. Use max 1x90 and 2x45 bends. Min dimension 300 mm between two 45 bends. Horizontal pipes may only be used directly behind the toilet and may only be max 700 mm long, min size Ø110 mm. Horizontal pipes must be laid with sufficient slope so the condensation can run from the toilet to the 90 bend, where a 8 mm hole has to be drilled in the bottom for the condensation water. Bear in mind that the 90 bend must be turned up, because the air should be able to move upwards in the simplest way. If the 90 bend is built in, an inspection hatch is required, because it is necessary to check that the hole has not been blocked by rubbish. The ventilation pipe must be raised sufficiently high, at least 1 metre above the roof ridge, to prevent downdraughts carrying in the incineration smell. The enclosed wind cowl should be used. If the Separett Flame is to be used during the winter, we recommend that you insulate all of the ventilation pipe that is outside an insulated space, this is to minimise cold downdraughts and to prevent the formation of ice and cold stoppages. Recommended insulation, min 10 mm thickness. Supply air To ensure that the toilet obtains a sufficient quantity of air, it is important that the ventilator is the right size, this is true for both the inside and outside dimensions. A round ventilator must have a hole at least 160 mm in diameter and for a square ventilator at least min 145x145 mm. The ventilator for incoming air has to be installed solely through the outer wall and, for the best results, at the same height as the toilet. It is important that the ventilator is always open when the toilet's fan is running. There must not be any other ventilation system, such as a fan or similar, in the space. Bear in mind that a kitchen fan and/or fireplace can affect the air supply to the toilet, this is easily fixed by closing the toilet door. Note! Incorrectly placed exhaust/supply air can result in poor combustion and other stoppages in your toilet. So, take extra care and make sure you have a correct installation. Correct installations of exhaust air duct 4 Min 600 mm Min 600 mm Min 600 mm Supply air ventilator min Ø160 mm Min 300 mm Max 6000 mm Supply air ventilator min Ø160 mm Max 6000 mm Supply air ventilator min Ø160 mm Max 6000 mm Min 100 mm Condensation hole Ø 8 mm Min 100 mm Condensation hole Ø 8 mm Max 700 mm 175 mm Condensation hole Ø 8 mm or removable cover

PROGRAM For the toilet to work optimally, it is important the right program button is used after each visit to the toilet. If this is not done, the ash pan will fill rapidly with carbonised excrement. The toilet is designed for daily use by a family of 6 people. 6 Flame has three different programs: Light incineration program = Yellow button, used when there is only urine in the bag. Evaporates the urine and has a shorter incineration time. Full incineration program = Brown button, used for faeces. Evaporates the urine and has a longer incineration time. Fan program = The fan program has two applications. The fan in the toilet can be used as a bathroom fan. If you do not want to run the toilet program at night, the fan can be run to guarantee that no smells emanate from the toilet. The fan does not stop before the temperature reaches 100. This takes about 60 minutes from when incineration finishes. Flame is an incinerating toilet that acts as a furnace and heats up to about 550 with the help of a heating element. The heating element becomes red in colour and this is completely normal. Once the liquid has evaporated, the faeces and paper are incinerated. Because Flame is an incinerating toilet, the waste will be incinerated internally in the combustion chamber. The heating up time, the time up to 550 degrees, depends on how much liquid and waste is in the toilet. When the toilet has reached 550 degrees, a clock starts that measures the time for each program. See the incineration schedule below. Do not throw any other products that do not belong to a toilet visit in the toilet. INCINERATION SCHEDULE Start about 20 About 550 End about 100 The light program standard about 15 min + 15 as needed Full program standard about 25 min + 15 as needed Heating time about min Incineration time min Cooling time 60 min Power 1800 W 1800 W 12 W Explanation Flame has three incineration steps. Press three times on any of the program buttons and an extra long program will start and run for at least 60 minutes at about 550. The time up to 550 depends on the quantity of liquid in the pot and the surroundings, such as cold, heat, ventilation etc. To save on the energy cost and the environment, the toilet has been developed to be as efficient as possible and, thus, it is a good idea to run the third incineration step every now and again, for complete incineration. Alternatively, the combustion time can be increased, by up to +15 minutes at the maximum, for the light and full incineration program by changing the time in the user menu.

MU SYSTEM 7 The program is normally in one of the following modes: Ready Waiting for button to be pushed Cooling phase Cooling after concluded flushing Night flushing The fan is running Light flush Light flushing underway Long flush Long flushing underway User menu Hold the urine button down for 5 seconds, to go to the user menu. It is best to brush and vacuum clean around the flue pipe at the back of the toilet at the same time The control board is too hot, over 80 degrees Celsius. Cool the toilet with the help of the fan Check that the overheat cut-out has not tripped or that the element is broken.

IF THE TOILET DOES NOT WORK 9 If your incinerating toilet does not work as intended, there now follows some points to check before contacting Separett AB. NOTE! Disconnect the power before starting! Too high a temperature in the exhaust air This could be due to a blockage in the exhaust air duct or incorrectly installed exhaust air duct. This could be because the supply air is not sufficient. The supply air ventilator must be at least 160 mm and fully open all the time the toilet is in use. The temperature on the control board is too high. This could be due to a blockage in the exhaust air duct or incorrectly installed exhaust air duct. This can also be because there is not sufficient supply air. The element heats up too slowly or not at all. Check whether the overheating cut-out has tripped. Pull out the plug and then remove the round black cap at the back of the toilet and then press in the overheat cut-out, the little white peg. Plug in again and switch on at both of the switches at the back, if they are in the off position. Start an incineration program. The toilet should then reach 150 degrees in 10 minutes. If the fault remains, contact Separett. Check VT TEMP in the display, it should be less than 50 C when the toilet is used. If the toilet is very cold, it takes a long time to reach the operating temperature. Overheat cut-out tripped Pull out the plug and then remove the round black cap at the back of the toilet and then press in the overheat cut-out, the little white peg. Plug in again and switch on at both of the switches at the back, if they are in the off position. Start an incineration program. The toilet should then reach 150 degrees in 10 minutes. If the fault remains, contact Separett. IF THE TOILET DOES NOT HAVE ANY POWER 1. Check the power cable in the socket. 2. Check that both of the two switches are on 3. Check the voltage in the electrical socket / fuse 4. Check the fuses on the control board The battery is flat The battery is charged by connecting the power and leaving the toilet in the ready mode. The fan does not work The fan does not give any signal to the control board. Contact Separett AB.

10 EMPTYING AND HANDLING Since some parts are very hot and dangerous to touch, do not carry out any work on the toilet during incineration and wait for at least 1 hour after it has stopped before emptying or putting your hands into it ) Open the hatch at the front edge by loosening the catches at the sides. 2) Then remove the hatch. 3) Turn the ash container to the left. 4) Pull out the ash container. 5) Empty the ash container. 6) Push in the ash container as far as it goes and turn it to the right. 7) Replace the hatch at the front edge and lock it into place at the sides. Ash handling The toilet will give notice in the display when it is time to empty the ash container. This is after it has been used 50 times. Cleaning the pot Clean the pot by soaking the solid ash for about 1 hour. After replacing the ash container, it is best to pour 1 litre water directly into the container (do not use a bag). Then run the full program. In this way, the water in the pot is boiled off and steams through the toilet and the ventilation pipe, helping to keep the toilet clean.

MAINTANCE SCHEDULE 11 Unscrew the two screws at the back and a screw on each side. Also unscrew the white knob on the flush handle. Take hold of the plastic bit, do not just pull on the display cable. Lift the lid carefully so the cable does not stretch Brush off the grille that sits on the fan connection, it is okay to remove the grille if needed. The fan can be cleaned with a toothbrush by sticking it in from both directions. Take care not to damage the fan. At the same time, also clean the round flue pipe, attached to the back of the toilet in the connector, using the enclosed brush. Vacuum up all the dust that you brush off the fan. Clean the drop hatch if needed, it should have a shiny surface so the bag slides down easily. Cleaning is performed according to the maintenance schedule below. Our cleaning kit, art. no can be purchased as an accessory MAINTANCE SCHEDULE FAN SECOND HOME AFTER 12 MONTHS FIRST HOME AFTER 6 MONTHS FLUE PIPE AFTER 6 MONTHS AFTER 3 MONTHS GRILLE AS POLISH DROP HATCH AFTER 12 MONTHS AS NEEDED AFTER 6 MONTHS AS NEEDED CLEAN WITH 1 LITRE WATER AFTER USING 100 TIMES AFTER USING 100 TIMES

OTHER High VT TEMP If the outlet air VT TEMP exceeds 50, it is a sign that the ventilation air in or out may be insufficient. 12 Do not expose the toilet to water Do not expose the water to water splashes or direct spray from the shower. If there are smells in the toilet room 1 Is the fan running? 2 Is the ventilation pipe properly sealed with silicone? 3 Is there an O-ring on the connector? If the bag is overfilled. Be sparing with paper. If there are smells outdoors 1. If latrine smells appear outdoors, it could be a sign that the catalytic converter is cold at the start of the incineration process. 2. In combustion smells appear outdoors, we recommend a longer ventilation pipe. 3. If there is a strong combustion smell outdoors, it may also be a sign that the catalytic converter is dirty. If noise/vibrations come from the fan 1. Clean the fan with a small brush, because the fan can collect dust on the fan blades. NOTE! Take care when cleaning. Hole for the condensation There must always be a hole in the bottom (or removable cover) of the exhaust air pipe, to stop condensation from collecting. Slope the horizontal pipe outwards, so the condensation runs out and not back into the fan. Winter use If the toilet is used during the winter, insulate the pipe for its full length with at least 10 mm thick pipe insulation. Winter storage It is best to store the toilet indoors with both of the power switches switched off to save the battery. It is best to free the toilet from the ventilation pipe and seal the pipe with insulation to prevent downdraughts. Resetting the toilet The toilet is reset by switching off at both of the switches for a short time and then switching them on again.

REPLACING THE FUSE 13 When changing the fuses, the power MUST be disconnected. Switch off at the power switches and unplug from the wall as shown in the picture to the left. If the display shows the message NO POWER, even though the power is disconnected, a fuse has probably blown. Unscrew the two screws on the side for the control board cover as shown in the picture to the right. 125mA 10A 10A There are three fuses on the control board, one in the black cylinder and two each in their metal holder. Use a screwdriver to loosen the black cylinder cover, and use the enclosed tool to remove the two fuses in the holders. Check all three fuses. If a fuse had blown, this can be detected by looking to see if the wire is no longer intact. NOTE: Do not remove the control board to replace the fuses. Check that the right fuse is used. In the enclosed bag, there are two 10A, one 125mA and a tool. GUARANTEE /SERVICE Dear Customer! Thank you for choosing a product from Separett AB.
