4 PROGRAM SCOPE & ACTIVITIES Conducting the Awareness program with the households for segregation of waste Identification of gaps in segregating the waste at the household level Listing the gaps and discussion with the informal sector workers and the residents on addressing the gaps Conducting training / orientation programs to all stakeholders. This also included home composting activity training Reporting on a weekly basis on each activity Targeting Zero Waste Colonies

5 OBSERVATIONS The Informal waste pickers are being integrated with private concessionaires. The Tricycles with twin bins to collect segregated waste wet and dry waste have been provided to the informal waste pickers. The Private Concessionaires has provided a separate dry waste segregation centres to facilitate the waste collectors to further segregate the dry waste. The clean dry waste provides an incentive to the informal waste pickers as a additional financial support for sustainability to them and their families. The segregated dry waste are being purchased at the market value from the waste collectors by the concessionaires.

6 CHALLENGES Ensuring 100% door-to-door collection of Segregated Waste from each household of unauthorized and slum areas. Ensuring purchase of the dry waste from the waste collector on a daily basis Reducing the options available for waste disposal in each locality by removing the bins and dhalaos in phased manner. Collection of hazardous waste and e-waste and its disposal Ensuring appropriate and scientific disposal of the household hazardous and LVP/MLP waste

20 Drum Composting at decentralized level Drum composting in a drum of 200 ltr. has been started at some locations. Organic waste from 20 houses is collected at a defined place in the colony where a drum rotating composter is installed A drum composter is a simple yet effective equipment wherein a cylindrical drum is rotated along its axis intermittently so that the organic waste is aerated This rotation reduces the decomposition time and makes the process much more efficient
