TarmacDry the asphalt porous paving system. Take control of rainwater management.
We ve only got to look back to the floods of 2007 to respect the power of even the UK s moderate climate. And it s from a position of respect for nature, that we developed TarmacDry. This asphalt porous paving system helps you take control of rainwater management by working with nature. TarmacDry is designed to capture surface water before either releasing it immediately into the sub-grade, performing a controlled release into the existing drainage or storing it for recycling.
The need for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). Limited land space and the need for more housing and infrastructure means greater emphasis is being given to how we handle flood management. This of course impacts on watercourses and drainage systems with increased risks of localised flooding and pollution. To make matters worse, handling this added pressure of volume and water quality is fast becoming a developer s responsibility rather than the local water authority s. So what s the solution? The answer lies underground, not with the current antiquated drainage system, but with a new Sustainable Drainage System. How do suds work? Sustainable Drainage Systems such as TarmacDry, combine a series of environmentally friendly elements to manage surface water run-off as close to its origin as possible, before it enters the watercourse. These elements are made up of ponds, swales and infiltration strips that improve biodiversity, provide aesthetic and practical amenities whilst at the same time reducing the risk of flooding. Importantly, SuDS remove the need for any additional drainage systems, making them much more costeffective. Supporting suds. As a company, we invest millions of pounds into researching and developing new drainage systems. But we re not the only people who are committed to sustainable drainage. Already many local authorities look favourably on developments that utilise SuDS. Planning Policy Statement note 25 requires new developments to incorporate sustainable drainage wherever possible. The Association of British Insurers is campaigning for a reduction in policy costs for schemes that incorporate SuDS.
Why TarmacDry? TarmacDry is the only patented asphalt based porous paving system, making it faster to install, more versatile, more cost effective and easy to maintain. Where? TarmacDry is designed principally for off-highway applications, for example car parks, retail parks, housing estates and lightly trafficked roads. The surface is designed to withstand the continual stresses of light traffic. Whilst for your peace of mind, TarmacDry is covered by a guarantee. How? TarmacDry is not a fit-all system. Each installation is of bespoke design and will be tailored to meet the specific requirements of your site. We will design, install and maintain a highly engineered system capable of storing varying amounts of rainwater to permit managed release or re-use. Hydraulic conductivity is the key measure of effectiveness. At installation TarmacDry has a HC rating of 5000mm/hr, whilst the worst recorded UK rainfall is just 100mm/hr. Why? Fast, versatile, cost-effective. There are lots of reasons to specify TarmacDry in the first instance, but it s important to know that you won t be regretting the decision later.
The benefits at a glance. Reduced risk of flooding Reduced effects of pollution Fast installation over large areas Typically a reduced thickness of construction Greater water cleansing Skid resistance Can allow soak-away to the existing sub-grade Can have a controlled outfall into positive drainage Harvest and re-use water No need for expensive iron work or drainage system

Proven Results. For over 100 years Tarmac have been the forerunner in road construction and the largest supplier of asphalt materials in the UK. Traditionally, rainwater management has consisted of developing products that repelled water, but in the early 1970s our thinking changed. The inspiration behind TarmacDry was born. Today we have carried out installations of TarmacDry in retail parks, housing estates and business centres, and have a proven track record of international use lasting more than 40 years. "With the increasing emphasis on SuDS and the need for improved surface water management techniques, Tarmac's permeable pavement development adds another useful tool to the SuDS toolbox for use in reducing flooding and pollution." Phil Chatfield, SuDS policy advisor for the Environment Agency.
